First New Start

"Oh my gosh Lesley, I can't believe you're still in bed. Today's your first day of school".

"Ughhhhhhhh, Mom give me a break"

"Get your lazy ass out of your bed and prepare for school now. Get your brother too"

"Ughhhhhhhh, this is the worst day of my life".

Lesley is a 16 year old. She's raised by her single mother along with her younger brother Ethan. Lesley lost her dad three months ago. Due to the memories her family had about him in her hometown, her mom thought it was best to relocate.

"Breakfast is ready guys" Sandra shouted( Lesley mom).

What are we having for breakfast "asked Ethan

"We're having Mac and Cheese"

"Yes" said Ethan, putting his palm in a fist and slightly raising it up.

"Where's your sister"?

"She's upstairs doing whatever i don't give a fuck about"

"Language Ethan".

"Sorry Mom".

"Whatever you're doing upstairs Lesley, be quick about it. You don't want you and your brother to be late on your first day of school"

"Give me a minute Mom"

Lesley eventually came downstairs..

"What took you so long"?

"Nothing much, I was just looking for my jacket"

"And did you see it"?

"Not really. I'll look for it later when I'm back from school"

"Ok. Here, have your breakfast"

"Thanks mom. Scoot over Ethan"

"I don't want to. You're not the boss of me. You could literally just turn over here and sit"

"I don't want to either" replied Lesley..

"That's enough kids. Lesley just turn over and sit to the chair next to your brother instead of telling him to scoot over"

"But mom....."

"No buts. This isn't even an issue that needs to derive into an argument between you too. And besides Lesley, you're the older sibling. Behave like one".

Lesley stomping her feet with a grumpy face went to the next chair and sat. Ethan gave out a little laugh and stuck out his tongue to his sister's face.

They both had their breakfast in a jiffy considering they had no time left to wait. Sandra drove them to their new school named "Hayfield High School".

They both got down, while their mom filled their faces with lots of kisses. She told Lesley to look after her brother and also told them to make lots of new friends. Giving them a five dollar bill, she drove off.

"Phew, finally" said Ethan.

Lesley stared at the school building and let out a loud sigh.

"*Sigh* I'm really not ready for this".

"I know I was quite ecstatic this morning, but I'm really feeling a knot tighten in my tummy" Ethan said.

"Same. It's never really a nice thing to be the new kid. But we've got each other. During Lunch time, meet me at my locker so we could have lunch together"

"Ok I will".

"Ok let's do this"

Opening the front door of the school, Lesley and Ethan let out a gasp. The interior of the school was quite magnificent surpassing their expectations.

They both went their separate ways, going to their different class.

Lesley went up to the teachers office.

The office was almost empty except for some few teachers.

"I guess they must all be teaching in class now" She mumbled to herself.

Lesley examined the office. The office was built in a square shape, the chair and desks neartly arrranged.

"Student, aren't you supposed to be in class now"? asked a teacher

"I'm sorry sir, but I'm a new student here. I'm supposed to meet Mr Baker, to show me my class"

"Oh, you must be Lesley. The principal told me about you. I'm Mr Baker. Give me a minute".

Lesley quietly watched him arrange some papers on his desks and then stood up.

Mr Baker looked up at her smiling brightly and said "Let's go".

Following Mr Baker behind, she took her time to examine every class being passed by. Arriving at her own class Mr Baker handed her over to her homeroom teacher in her class.

"Ok guys, seems like we have a new student today. Please introduce yourself".

Lesley was a quiet and shy girl who didn't love standing in front of a crowd, no matter the size of the crowd.

She held tightly to the straps of her bags and in a low tone said "I'm Lesley Thompson by name. And I just got transferred here".

"Is that all"?

She nodded.

"Ok then, you can take the empty seat beside Julia. Oh, and meet me later after school hours to hand over to you your school uniforms".

She could feel the eyes on her while she took her seat.

"So as I was saying guys, you all need to put more effort in your grades. I must say our class is really behind compared to other class. So we need to step up our games. I hope you all can do that"?

"YES WE CAN"

"I love your spirit. Ok that will be all for today. Get settled for your next class".

Lesley was about to bury her head on her desk when her desk mate said "Hi, I'm Julia. Nice to meet you" while extending her hands and smiling so brightly.

"Wow she's really beautiful" thought Lesley.

"I'm Lesley. I'm sure you already know that since I just introduced myself not quite long".

"It's okay. I don't mind hearing your twice. It's a really pretty name".

"Thank you. So is yours".

"So how does it feel being the new kid".

"Hmmmm, at first I wasn't thrilled, but so far I'm liking it".

"Don't worry, you're gonna love it here as far as you have me".

Julia had wavy blonde hair. She had a pretty smile which Lesley found very attractive. She's also quite beautiful. While talking with her, Lesley noticed she had the habit of tucking her hair behind her ears frequently.

Another teacher stepped into the class and considering what she wrote on the board, Lesley figured she teaches biology. Well, it wasn't that hard to figure considering she literally wrote BIOLOGY on the board.

"Turn your textbook to page 15".

Lesley was quite confused on what to do considering she didn't have the textbook, but Julia then offered to share hers

"We can share mine".

"Oh my gosh, thank you so much"

*Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring*

The ringing of the bell signifies the end of the class and the time for a lunch break.

Lesley took her bag ready to dash off when Julia stopped her.

"Where're you dashing off to"?

"Oh, I need to meet up with my little brother since I promised to have lunch with him".

"I didn't know you had a brother".

"Well you know now".

"We could go together".

"Are you sure? I really don't want to bother you"?

"No it's okay. I want to go with you. Besides you're my friend and I don't really want to eat alone".

"Ok sure, let's go".

Sighting her brother, she quickly ran to him.

"How was today's class"?

"Not that bad. I already made a friend. What of you"?

"Same. Meet Julia. She's my friend. Julia, meet my brother Ethan".

"Your brother is so cute".

Lesley scoffed "Who? He? Are you sure you're seeing alright?

"C'mon Lesley, can't you just accept it when someone compliments me"?

Lesley laughed while ruffling his hair.

"Just kidding kiddo. Of course you're cute. Just teasing you".

They all walked to the cafeteria together while chatting. They joined the line and took their food.

The cafeteria was quite rowdy.

Ethan didn't mind at all while happily munching his food.

Lunch break was over within a minute and it was time for lesson period.

Lesley parted ways with Ethan while she and Julia went up to their class.

After school hours, Lesley went to her homeroom teacher to collect her school uniforms before heading out with Julia and Ethan.

"How are you guys gonna go home"? asked Julia

"We're taking the bus"

"Same with me. That's my bus coming over now".

"That's the bus we're boarding too" exclaimed Ethan.

"Really? That's so cool. I guess we would be going home together more frequently".

The bus stopped right in front of them and they boarded it.

The ride was quite a cheerful ride since Julia did most of the talking.

Julia was quite a cheerful girl who enjoys making friends, the exact opposite of Lesley.

She asked them a lot of questions which Lesley didn't mind since it was keeping the conversation going.

"I'm gonna alight soon since my stop is almost near, but before I go can we exchange contacts"?

"Totally".

"Where do you guys live"?

"We live at 18 Cherry avenue lane".

"I know there. It's not quite far from where I live. Ok, this is my stop. I'll see you guys tomorrow right?

"Yeah, totally".

"Ok then, Bye. I'll give you a call tonight".

Julia alighted while waving cheerily at both of them. They also waved back before the bus drove off.

"She's really nice"

"I know"...
