1 1. THE SUCCESSOR
In the vast infinitude of unending darkness an old man is floating in space. The old man has a long beard and a wrinkled face that is currently filled with worry.
"I'm getting too old for this. I have watched over the multiverse for so long that I can't even remember how long it has been."
[AN: I imagined the old man saying "I'm getting too old for this shit" and flapping his trench coat and walking out of the room.]
"I think I have to look for a successor soon."
The old man sighs and talks to himself.
The looks through multiple universes and multiverses to find a successor.
After searching for a long time, he finds himself looking at a boy around 19 years of age who is watching one piece on his laptop.
The old man snaps his fingers and the boy suddenly appears in front of him.
The boy looks around in confusion and after he sees the old man the asks the old man
"Who are you and where am I?"
"I am the creator of the verse. You are in the plane outside of the verse from where I observe my creation."
The old man says to the boy with a kind smile.
"I understood the second part but what is a verse?" The boy asks to the old man in confusion.
[How am I here. I was watching one piece. I had just finished watching Luffy defeat Doflamingo. And what is this verse this old man is talking about.]
The boy thinks to himself.
"Young man you know about universe and multiverse and those universe and multiverse exist inside the verse."
The old man patiently explains to the boy about the multiverse.
"why am I here old man."
"young man, I have made the verse and watched over it for very long. I wanted a successor so I chose you.
I want you to visit the worlds I have created and learn about them so you can watch over them in the future."
[So, in simpler terms he is a king and he chose me as a crown prince. He wants me to visit the citizens so that I can rule better after I become the king.]
The old man listens to the boy's thoughts and smiles.
"You have read stories about Isekai novels so I will give you some gifts to help you.
First is a system which will help you get powerful and protect your life in the world you visit
Second you can keep your memories about your past life.
Third you can change your appearance and body to your liking before starting your life."
The boy smiles after hearing the old man. He looks at the old man and nods.
[I have no one at home to whom I can return to. Being lonely and sitting at the orphanage alone is all I have done.
Maybe I can find happiness because of this old man.]
The boy thinks to himself and nods internally.
The old man produces a full body mirror for the boy to alter his body.
The boy looks at the mirror increases his height from 165 cm to 2m.
He changes the color of his hair from black to silver and makes it spiky and medium length that reaches to his eyes but doesn't cover them.
He then looks downward and increases the size of the little brother to big brother.
He looks at his face and makes changes so he looks handsome.
After checking the changes that he has made and being satisfied with it he looks at the old man and nods.
"Ok old man I am ready you can send me to the world you want me to go to."
The old man smiles at the boy and snaps his fingers and the boy disappears.

On an island in a sea the boy wakes up in a dark alley. He gets up on his feet and looks around.
He finds himself in a dark alley and he slowly walks out of the alley.
He sees people walking around and sees stalls on the road people selling fruits and vegetables.
"where am I?"
He speaks to himself not knowing where he has come.

The boy hears a voice in his head.
[one piece world. This is a nice surprise. I'm in shells town where Luffy met Zoro. I will ask if people know Zoro.]
The boy feels happy because
"Are you the system that the old man has given me.?"
The boy speaks after hearing the voice in his head.
"Yes, my creator whom you called old man has created me to help you.
Would you like to know the system's functions.?"
The voice which is neither old nor young, neither male nor female asks him.
"Sure." the boy says.
A screen appears in front of his face. There he sees the functions of the system,

"because you are going to visit different worlds and parameters like strength differ from one world to another because of the laws in that world, and it will only hamper your growth if you develop a habit of looking your status."
The boy nods at the system's words and looks at the name section of the status which shows not available.
"From today my name shall be Ethan Thorne."
Ethan looked at his status again.
After seeing the functions, he clicks on status.

Feeling satisfied he started to look at the other functions of his system.
He looked the map and saw where he was as a blue dot but the surrounding areas were all black.
"You have to move around and map the areas to fill the map."
After hearing to what the system said Ethan nodded then continued to look at the screen.
He then clicked on the inventory function next.
Suddenly he disappeared from the street and appeared in a void.
"System, what is this, where am I?"
"This is your inventory, a whole universe. Here you are god.
You can create planets sun, moon whatever you like but you cannot create living things yet.
You don't have the knowledge required to do that.
But if you create a planet and make it so that it can sustain life you can bring people to travel with you into other worlds."
After system finished taking, he looked at the screen and clicked back and he came to the street again.
"Do I have to click every time I want to go to my personal universe?"
"No, you can just think and you'll be there, same for the objects you want to keep inside. You can also command the system mentally; you don't need to keep clicking at the screen." the system replied.
Ethan nodded and looked at the next function which is Shop.

Ethan kept looking at the shop and no matter how much he looked he never stopped getting impressed.
"how can I buy the things at the shop?" he asked the system.
The reply he got was that
"You are the god's successor so everything is free for you.
But it can also be considered as a test. He wants see what will you do with unlimited power on your hands."
He grinned from ear to ear when he heard the first part and thought what to do when he heard the second part.
"System io want to buy one interspatial ring to keep items for immediate use. Can you make one that can turn invisible."
A golden ring materializes midair. He caught it and put it in the middle finger of his right hand.
He tried to sense what is inside but didn't know how to do it.
"system how do you use it."
"You guide your intent inside the ring." he heard the system's reply.
He sits down on the ground and slowly tries to guide his intent inside the ring.
After a few minutes he finally manages to see what's inside the ring which is nothing because in the present the ring is empty.
He giggles foolishly the gets up.
He looks at the last system function.

He hears what the system says and nods.
The looks upward towards the sky and smiles.
"thank you. You gave me all this, a new life, power to take my destiny in my own hands. I want to call you my father.

"thank you, I am glad to have a son like you."
Ethan hears the old man's voice who is now his father inside of his head and sheds tears for the first time in his life.
He closes the system window and looks around. He listens to people talking and bargaining with the vendors on the streets.
He realizes that he can understand what people are talking about.
He kept looking around and he saw a shop where people were exchanging gold for money. He knew that he had no money to eat or pay for a place to sleep so he sold some gold bought from the system.
He asked the shopkeeper for a place to eat so he recommended Food foo restaurant.
He kept hearing about Captain Morgan so he knew that Zoro and Luffy hadn't arrived yet. It was getting dark so he went to the restaurant and ate some food. It was not as tasty as foods in his worlds used to be but it was not bad so he ate happily and also left a tip for the cook.
He rented a room at the local hotel and went to his room.
He wanted to join luffy and his friends. He wanted to have some friends who were good. He had friends but they were all the backstabbing type. Luffy and his crew are good people and he was looking forward to spending time with them.
But it was not without cost. Spending time with Luffy and crew meant he would be labeled as a pirate and he would have to fight for his life.
So, he looked at the system for abilities and skills that would help him get strong. So, he chose some skills and abilities that would be helpful.
Rather than collect lots of skills and abilities and not know how to use them he decided to select a few and decided to master them.
According to the system the abilities and skills he gets would only provide him basic knowledge and it would be up to him to master them.
So, after selecting skills and abilities he looked at his status.

He decided he would learn metal manipulation for now. If he could get good enough, he would be able to manipulate metals even at a molecular level. he would also learn marksmanship and swordsmanship. Each skill has 5 stages beginner, lower, medium, higher and master level. After master level a person can break the limits of the skill using the comprehension of the user.
So he will try to be proficient in this skills until Zoro and Luffy arrive here in this island.
