Python jerked forward but got back under control with one tug from Edison. “How did you get into teaching?”

“The short answer is I had a good one,” Stone told him. “I think most teachers have one in their past they admire.”

“I don’t know what that’s like.”

“Right. What about college? For some people, that’s so much better.”

“I wouldn’t know. Didn’t finish high school, never started college.”

“Oh.”

Monty started pulling.

“Relax,” Edison said, even though Python was acting up, too.

Stone took some deep breaths, until he and Monty calmed a bit. “You met Lee when you were little?” He hoped that subject wouldn’t get the dogs going again.

“At birth,” Edison said. “Literally. We were born a day apart.”

“That’s so cool.”

“Look.” The moment they stopped, so Edison could pull his phone from the pocket in his shorts, Python jumped up on Stone.
