“No. I gotta go.” He made it to the door.

“It’s late.”

“It’s safe enough.” Shoes without socks would do .

“I never lead you on in any other way,” Edison said.

“No.” Stone figured he’d button his pants and shirt in the hallway. “You never did. You’re too zonked to drive. Sleep a little. I’ll be gone a while.” Where he was going, he didn’t know.

“Like you care?”

“Yeah. I care. Whomever would have thunk it? Sleep for an hour, lock up when you go.”

“Just definitely go, right?”

“Well, we’re done having sex, why would you stay?”
