1 Subrina meets her Destiny (1)

Subrina, can you please join us in the office. The intercom blared into my room making me jump. I just spent my 18th birthday at school. I don't understand why my parents can't let me unwind first. I drop my bookbag on my bed and my jacket on the desk chair before I shuffle my feet down the hall. I take a deep breath before opening the door.

My dad is the Alpha of the Deerborne Pack, second in the Royal line for King of the North American packs. His cousin is the current King and first in the Royal line. Although he is currently sick and dad is filling in for Ralph. Dad grumbles about it but I know he secretly loves the grueling schedule.

Mom is also an Alpha. She is head of the Bear Clan Pack. Although it's rare that both would be Alpha's is not unheard of. Mom has been stressed because of dad's schedule of late. She is pregnant with her last pup. I say that because she is 38. Pups are not born after 40 because of health issues. Mom has to rest often so as eldest I have been training to be Alpha.

As I walk in I hang my head. I really don't want to be Alpha yet. I want to go to college and get my degree. I want to make my own choices. I don't want a mate either. I know that they expect me to attend this weekend's mate event. I just pray I don't find a mate. I want to have time to adjust first.

Mom looks up at me with a big smile and wishes me a Happy Birthday. I say thank you and flop onto the closest chair. Dad, finally looks up. "Bri, you know how much I love you and how proud I am of you right?" Oh no, here it comes. "Well, I think that after the mating ceremony you should take the wheel from your mom." What? How could he do this. "As you know mom is in her 3rd trimester and needs the rest. I am filling in for Ralph and can't take on a 3rd set of duties. I understand how you feel about everything but I just can't get around it."

Mom, looks over at me so proud. I hardly can refuse the woman who gave me life. I just smile. "Mom, Dad, I will gladly take my post in our family. It is an honor to be your Alpha Pup." Both of them are just dancing with excitement. Dad will make the announcement at my birthday party tonight.

I practically run back to my room and slam my face into my pillow. I cry myself to sleep. When I wake up I only have 30 minutes to get ready. I shower, put on the dress we picked out months ago and quickly put on my make up. I braid my hair to one side so it doesn't look too wet.

I walk out of my bedroom for the last time as a normal werewolf teen. It makes me think of the change in my life on my 16th birthday. That was my first change. The first time the moon made me into a wolf. From now on I will be treated as an Alpha, life will be different from anything I've ever known. I shut the door and see my little brother waiting for me. My escort down the stairs to my waiting pack, family, and friends. I let out a sigh and take my place. My parents are waiting at the bottom of the stairs. I wait for the announcement.

"Alpha's Dean and Molly Evans formally announce Alpha Subrina Hope Evans. Let's all give her a warm welcome. " The applause is so loud it hurts. My stomach is in knots. I just want this night over. I lead my brother forward my head is light and I need off of the steps. I look around to see if I can find my best friend Cheryl. She is at the bar making eyes with the bartender Kat. I guess her support is out. At least I will get a yummy report at school. This makes my smile real, not the plastered on smile I previously had. I remind myself to thank my mom for the wonderful smell of lavender and Moroccan oils. She actually listened to my request for no flowers.

As I reach mom I kiss her cheek, whispering "Thank you mom." I turn to dad for my first dance. Dad hands me a dance card with only one spot open that's the meal time. I try not to show my discomfort with everything. Dad leads me into the ball room. I just can't believe my eyes. Flowers! Roses, lilies, mums, everything you can think of. For some reason my wolf nose only smells lavender and Moroccan oil. I'm totally confused.

Dad whispered in my ear a heartfelt "Happy Birthday!", before waltzing me around and around. I know that he is showing me off to everyone. He really is proud and that makes me forgive him for not asking my opinion about making me Alpha. As the dance ends He says "Have a goodnight princess." I watch helplessly as he and mom say goodnight and retire early.

Dance 2 is another waltz with the Prince of South Africa. He is a really good dancer and can actually speak very good English. He says his name is Rosstorm and he loves the diversity of our country. I really start to relax as he talks about his own country. The dance is over way too soon. My next 3 dance partners are also potential candidates for mates. All are older but nice. I try to keep up the conversation but bore way too fast. Dances 4 thru 7 are much a blur. The smell of lavender mixed with Moroccan oil makes my nose flare. I look everywhere, searching every face for someone to catch my eye. As the dance ends and the midnight meal begins I panic trying to find him. I know that tonight may be my only chance.

I sit at the head of the table. The chair at the other end remains empty. This signifies that I haven't found my mate. I practically ignore all 7 courses. I can't refuse the salmon with asparagus or the magnificent cake at the end. My mother really did outdo herself. I remind myself to thank her again.

As they sing Happy Birthday I hear a voice that melts my heart. I try so hard to hear his Deep baritone so I can focus on just him. I close my eyes and follow the sound. I open my eyes to find the most handsome, ruggedly handsome I should add, face I've ever seen. He is gorgeous. I tremble when he looks at me. Our eyes meet and I forget about everyone else in the room. My little brother says to me, "Bri, blow out the candles and cut the cake, I've waited for this all night." I snap out of my trance long enough to make a wish and blow out the candles. I cut the first piece for my little brother then turn to the Omega to finish for me. I turn my attention back to the smile that made my heart skip a beat.

He's no longer standing there. I look everywhere and I can't find him. His smell lingers in the room so he can't be far. I have to return to my guest. I can't afford to blow this for my parents. My heart is torn. I don't even know his name.

I finish up the party and say goodnight to everyone. I help the Omega clean. I must have the saddest face ever because she pulls me over to her side. She tells me I don't have to help clean it is my birthday. I remind her it was yesterday because today is a new day. Giggling we finish cleaning. I tell her everything about my night. I even tell her about my mate. How could he have just walked away? Didn't he feel the same pull? How will I find him? My Omega hugs me and reassures me that my destiny will never be delayed. "Just have patience Bri, he will find you again when its time.", Omega Vikki says. I might not have picked my Beta or Omega, I can sense that they both fit me as well as they did my mom though.

As I walk up the stairs to my room I pull off my heels. I feel like I'm in a daze. Dreaming of his face. I step into my room the smell of lavender and Moroccan oil is overwhelming. I just know he was here. I lean back on the door, take a deep breath and whisper you smell amazing. Standing in the shadows of my balcony he hears my 3 words. He covers his heart and then blows me a kiss. I walk over to the balcony to shut the curtains. Then I start the water for my bath. I hear a noise from the balcony but I remain still. I remove my dress, step into the relaxing water and I know in my heart he wants me too.
