13 Chapter 13: Macabre Encounter

“That depends on where this is going…” Eshe cautiously responds, unsure of what to expect.

“Oh, nothing nefarious. I want to surprise you with something when we leave here, but it may take another hour–if you’re interested.” He chuckles, drinking the remaining champagne in his glass.

“I’m listening…” A knock at the door interrupts Damien’s response, the waiter revealing himself with the same cart filled with various desserts. The waiter identifies the items as he sets them down, Eshe marvels at desserts she has never tried before. Bananas foster cheesecake, bread pudding, beignets, pecan pralines, king cake, praline brownies, sweet potato pie, and doberge are placed before the couple as the waiter swiftly removes empty appetizer plates. The waiter asks if everything looks good, and if they need anything else. Damien thanks him and sends him away, focusing his attention on Eshe.
