Demons (1)

Chapter 9: Demons (1)

Following the first success, Bruno managed to concoct two more ice-resistance pills.

It went without saying that Bruno had enough talent and that Beelzebub's teachings had played a significant role in his growth. Of course, the ghost's disappearance was a matter Beelzebub didn't want to talk about, for it was just pointless.

Moreover, David corrected Bruno's knowledge by asking him to prepare the last Elim Flower alone. Bruno did his best to cut the leaves and draw the holes in the resource just as Beelzebub had done before, but his short memory failed him.

Beelzebub used it as a chance to hide the method of preparing the spiritual pill and taught Bruno the proper way of arranging Elim Flowers.

That method alone wasn't enough, as one had to sense a ghost or any other soul existence, then force it to act upon one's wish. There was more to it that Bruno probably would never learn in his life.

"Please, take this pill as thanks, David!" Bruno wrapped the first ice resistance pill in a small wooden box, then presented it in both hands to the demon.

Beelzebub took the present with a faint smile. "I'll use it well."

"I hope so!" Bruno innocently replied before rubbing his nose with a wide grin on his face.

At last, he managed to repeat his fluke, three times at that! With David's knowledge preciously locked in his heart, Bruno was confident to successfully prepare more ice resistance pills, which were small treasures in the Williard Village.

That was because of the chasm producing debilitating cold winds, which with often targeted the village.

Those pills were another layer for stationing guards and people working outside during those times.

Bruno felt like he would soon make a bank!

After leaving the basement, Bruno shared the good news with his mother.

Patricia wasn't alone, however. Her husband was back from his work.

Bruno's father, Aric, was one of the hunters and guards of the Williard Village. He did many dangerous tasks for the village's security and well-being, so his fame stretched across the whole village.

Looking at his muscular body, Beelzebub tried to guess Aric's level. This man possessed an aura that David hadn't felt in the green forest, so Aric was surely much stronger than those monsters. Of course, Beelzebub hadn't traversed deep into that danger zone, so he hadn't seen real dangers yet.

Still, Aric seemed like someone to be not trifled with.

David suspected that Bruno's father would be able to breach his fire breath to shut his mouth, which would instantly decide a fight between them… that was just a feeling caused by a sense of security, of course.

Beelzebub was in a safe and warm house, keeping the dangers of the world at the back of his head. But if he were to fight against someone, no matter monster or human, his experience from the gaming world would have taken over him, driving him to fight to his last health point.

And while Beelzebub had his own thoughts about Aric, the man scanned Beelzebub as well.

"Glad to see someone with a keen eye. I always knew my Bruno has a talent for alchemy!" Aric approached Beelzebub and extended his hand for a greeting. "Aric of the Williard Village. You're safe under my roof."

"I'm honored to receive such hospitality, sir." Beelzebub paid enough respect to the older man. "I'm just David. I believe I won't use too much of your hospitality, but if I happen to do so, feel free to make me work. I don't want to be a freeloader."

Aric stared at David in a different light. "You did more than enough now. Come, my wife's suppers always put us to sleep!"

"Ah, I must excuse myself." Beelzebub warmly smiled and apologized to the lady of that house, whose lovely face turned sadder. "I'll try ma'am's supper tomorrow, if possible. Haven't had time to sightsee the village, which I am interested in. I also like to refresh my mind after concocting. Even if I am mere guidance."

Bruno wanted to protest — even more to tell his parents that David was more than guidance — but his father put him down back to the seat with nothing but a look.

Aric then nodded as though having an understanding of David's character, bidding him farewell.

He even passed keys to his house, telling Beelzebub that he could return at any time.

"You're my guest."

"Thank you, sir."

Beelzebub would love to eat more but didn't want to interfere with a family meeting.

He inferred that Bruno had spent some time in the chasm, so his parents must have been worried a lot. Moreover, Bruno didn't even have time with his mother upon returning back home, for he had quickly eaten and gone down to his basement to prepare his workplace.

Now, the three of them should have enough time to spend and talk about whatever lay on their hearts.

'I have been expecting the father of the house to be more cautious of me… but I guess he's that strong. Maybe I have some tail, but who cares?' Beelzebub was getting suspicious of himself, for things were going quite well for him.

But that was simply a difference between the worlds. Additionally, no family would let a freeloader stay at their home for too long, so David knew that he had enough skills to leverage their kindness.

He hadn't gone outside for just a walk… even though it was true he liked to go for a stroll.

'I find it odd that I met a ghost so quickly… if I want to make a connection, then it's either the chasm influence or that girl loved Bruno too much.' Beelzebub had never tasted any romance in his life, and if something had been hinted at him, then he must have missed it numerous times because of his past experiences.

Therefore, he blamed the chasm for the ghost's appearance.

He wanted to find more ghosts.

And then, he wanted to see more of the Williard Village.

After all, his maids weren't humans.

They were demi-humans, which used to be a marketing move for the game's company far in the past.

That's why Beelzebub wanted to see whether he would find a different race in the village.

And he did.

Beelzebub found a demon.
