In the Hospital

I woke up to an unfamiliar ceiling.

Is what I would have said, if I could actually see anything, but I couldn't. After all, I was still blind.

Though, I would be lying if I said I wasn't the least bit surprised. Despite keeping a semi-conscious state the entire time, the last clear memory was a bit...

...long ago.

Thinking really hard about it, I vaguely remember crawling with all my strength, not even feeling the pain of my skin scrapping against the concret floor anymore, as finally someone found me.

And after that, everything was just a blur to me.

Still, even after surviving, just being conscious reminded me of the state my body was previously in.

Still, it's an improvement. If your viewpoint is from a state of death, surviving in any kind of way would be an improvement.

Well, maybe with the exception of getting tortured and your mind broken.

Still, from my viewpoint as of now, it was an improvement. Even if my body hurts to the point where I would prefer just falling unconscious again right now.

Yet, I couldn't help but be a bit curious. Where am I, how big is the room I am in, how occupied is this hospital ward and is there anyone around me right now?

After all, how high is the chance that a random orphan like me, found on the sideroad, would land in a private ward.

So, I sat up straight up on the bed, even if every single fiber of my body was screaming at me to immediately stop what I was doing, opened my mouth, concentrated and...

...shock followed.

----------------------------------------------------------

Fumio just let out a long sigh. A sigh could have many reasons, frustration, anger, annoyance, but this one was just a combination of relief and exhaustion.

Exhaustion, simply because she was tired for staying awake for 24 hours and then having to immediately deal with a life and death situation.

Anyone who would be not exhausted at that point is a superhuman.

Relief, because she managed to save a life.

Thinking back about the entire situation Fumio smirked, because things could have gone south very easily, with how many moving parts this entire operation had.

But as if a miracle happened, everything after the initial shock happened without major issues.

No trouble, no detrimental interferences, and no unexpected situations. Sure, suddenly asking if she could come their way was certainly a surprise, but to the lawyers relief she only needed to move for a few hundred meters, before the ambulance appeared.

Handing over the girl for emergency treatment in the ambulance, the drive to the hospital, just the entire process after handing the almost cold body of the girl went without issue, as if a guardian angel overlooked the situation.

She had the feeling that there was some outside interference from a higher force that made everything so easy, and to be honest, she wasn't that wrong about that.

"Miss Seigi, it might be a bit late to ask, but what is the relationship between you and the girl? According to our hospital records you two don't seem to be related in any way."

Getting pulled out of her thought, Fumio looked at the doctor that asked her the question.

Dr. Mori, the same doctor that oversaw the situation since her arrival with the girl at this hospital. The same one that tried his best to save the girls life, while simultaneously trying to calm her.

Though, to say the least, hearing the girl's physical condition upon arrival was a surprise.

She didn't have a major in biology and/or medicine, but as someone who is the best in her field and especially since she dealt with a lot of quirks, she was pretty confident in her knowledge about wounds and their severity and Fumio was pretty sure that a six year old child without a self-regeneration quirk isn't supposed to survive the loss of a liter of blood, a dozen of broken and/or crushed ribs, broken arms and legs, torn muscles all around her body, a slightly cracked skull, scrapped skin and lastly glass shards in her stomach.

Hell, she was even sure that a normal human adult wouldn't survive on wounds like that. Sure, she was happy that the girl survived, but the only way she could describe this situation was as a miracle.

A miracle that she survived long enough with these life-threatening wounds, a miracle that Fumio found her, a miracle that the girl could be treated, everything about this was one, giant, huge miracle.

"Ehm, Miss Seigi. I know this is an uncomfortable thing to answer, but these are normal procedures, without them, we can't really continue. So, could you please tell me the relationship between the two of you?"

Fumio blushed slightly. Once again, she was caught in her own thoughts, how embarrassing.

"Right, right. Sorry about that, and about your question. Well, how should I say this, we two aren't related at all, I just found her like that in an abandoned alleyway."

The doctor just nodded, before scribbling something around on his note board.

"Noted. Well, I don't really get the full picture of this situation, but we can say for certain that this was nothing short of a miracle. If I am honest, I couldn't imagine anyone surviving that, even if they arrived an hour earlier here. But from your expression I can tell that you don't want to hear about this, right?"

Fumio was surprised that the doctor just called out her thought, but at the end she just nodded at his words, he was still right about what he just said.

Seeing this, he pushed up his glasses and calmly answered her.

"The girl is out of danger now. If you want to confirm it for yourself, I can even let you visit her room."

Hearing this proposal, Fumio was certainly surprised.

"Is this even allowed? We aren't even related, isn't this a breach of protocol?"

The doctor just chuckled hearing that.

"You are the girls savior, I don't know how much longer she could have survived in that state, but at the end she still needed treatment. As fast as possible. Thanks to you, she was delivered to the hospital. I think we can make an exception in this situation. Don't you think so too?"

After contemplating about this offer for a moment, she decided to accept it. She really wanted to make sure if the child is doing well or not.

After Fumio told him that, the doctor lead her towards the room they put the girl in.

"Just to have it on protocol, but you do know, that you should be careful around the girl if she wakes up, right?"

Fumio stared at the doctor blankly for a moment, making him break out in a little sweat, until she belatedly answered him.

"Oh, you actually expected an answer? I am sorry, but isn't it common sense to not cause a commotion around sick people? Especially in a hospital?"

Hearing her answer, the doctor let out a sigh of relief. She wasn't one of those women.

"You'd be surprised how many people are out there that do not understand that."

"You'd be surprised how often I see a Karen on the other side in a trial."

Hearing this, the doctor just had a surprised expression on his face.

"Believe it or not, but sometimes they just continue being entitled as they are, even in court. Sometimes makes you think what went wrong in their life, so they end up in that position."

The doctor just held her shoulder and made an expression that told her that he understood her pain.

Fumio just responded with a teary-eyes thumbs-up.

"Anyways, I promise that I don't cause harm to the girl in any way, shape or form. Is that enough?"

He just chuckled as an answer. Someone that understood how much a pain in the ass entitled people are, shouldn't one be herself, right?

Meanwhile, Fumio entered the hospital room the girl was in.

It was a big, spacious, private ward.

She was a bit surprised by the good treatment of the girl. After all, a private ward wasn't something a normal person would just get, but then she remembered that she was a VIP in this hospital, so it made some sense.

Fumio took a deep breath in. Well, this was more or less once her ward.

Fumio was a rather rowdy child in the past and her father was the chief of the police station and close friends with the person that lead this hospital, so in times outside of emergency, this ward was reserved for her family, but in the end, she was the one that landed in hospital the most, so it was her ward.

It was still as clean and sanitary as she had in memory.

When was the last time anybody used this room?

After a certain incident, Fumio matured and stopped being the rowdy brat she once was and so this room was barely ever used after that.

The hospital staff probably wouldn't even remember what the reason was, why this room had to be filled last.

Looking around, it was still the plain old room it always was, with some medical equipment, a comfortable looking bed, and a little table beside it to put the get-well gifts on.

Some time passed with Fumio just reminiscing about the past, before she finally took a chair and sat beside the bed.

In the bed she was once lying in, in the bed that was once reserved for her, in that exact same bed, was now a little girl, sleeping peacefully, breathing in and out in regular intervals.

Taking in the appearance of the little girl, Fumio was getting angry seeing her wrapped in so many bandages.

No matter when, what or why, a little child like her didn't deserve to be hurt like that, a child her age should now just be in elementary school, making new friends and enjoy learning.

Not this.

Fumio sighed. Why did society have to be so dark sometimes? She found the girl at the outskirts of this city, about where the slums of this city would start.

She parked her car there, because her court enemy thought it would be a good idea to block every parking spot in a seven-kilometer radius for her, how petty they were.

She already knew about it, so she decided to park her car right outside of these districts, right at the border, where it was still considered safe and harmless to be in and yet, she still found a little child there, right at the border of life and death.

She was angry at that though. She really wanted to do something about that, but who was she? Just some lawyer, what could she do if the government didn't want to get involved in the gang wars of these districts.

Once again, she just sighed. All she could hope for, is that some heroes finally decide to do something against that, but until then, she could only wait and hope for things to get better there.

Still, Fumio made one resolve. If the girls situation were something she could deal with, she would do anything to bring the perpetrators some justice, she swore it on her family name 'Seigi', she swore it on Justice.

Scratching her head, Fumio sat down again. Pondering so much, without any or much use, she always did that, that's why she always paused before answering someone back.

She was glad that this habit of hers let up with age, she just imagined what it would be like if she just turned silent in court like that.

But now, now she didn't need to worry about things like that.

All she was worried about right now was the girls well-being, because despite everything, she found that girl pitiful, now that she looked closer at her, she noticed how cute she was.

Even under all these bandages did she notice the beauty of this cute girl.

If she would have been born into a rich family...

No, even a normal family, if she were born into normal circumstances, in a safe environment, that girl would have grown into a natural beauty that even models would pale against.

Too bad that fate didn't want things to go like that. That girl was very thin, especially around her limbs, showing how neglected she got for several years to get to this level of malnourishment and that wasn't even the end of it, pale skin that showed that she was barely outside, scars all over her body, that showed that she got abused a lot and even her silver hair showed how badly she was treated all these years.

Her hair was just one whole mess, her supposed silver hair barely showed it's true color and was just filled with dirt and grime, she was honestly a bit disgusted by it.

Fumio was honestly hoping that the girl didn't have a family, because if she did, she was sure that she would give them a mindful of worries for neglecting such a precious girl like her.

Suddenly, Fumio heard rustling from the bed, pulling her out of her daydream once again. As she looked out of the window again, she noticed how the sun was slowly setting again.

She was surprised as she saw that, because she was pretty sure that it is supposed to be afternoon right now, and the sun is already setting, did that mean that she was looking at the girl for a couple of hours straight?

But Fumio didn't let that faze her, if the girl asked now she would say that she just arrived, she wouldn't continue to ask, right?

But the girl didn't ask.

Fumio just saw how she sat up and just opened her mouth. No noise, just her opening her mouth.

For a moment she wondered what the girl did, but then the girl broke out into a state of panic.

----------------------------------------------------------

Earlier, in the same hospital:

"Phew, that was a job well done. Saving people's life really is what this job is about."

The doctor earlier whipped his sweat from his forehead, today was a busy day.

First the severely injured girl and then other various emergencies.

It was a really exhausting job but seeing the smile on his patients face was always worth it.

Until...

"Where is Dr. Mori, I need to talk to him right now."

...he heard that dreadful voice.

"Ms. Mori, I'll ask you to immediately leave the premises here, or I'll make sure to immediately call the police."

A woman wearing designer clothes and a practical bob hair cut was approaching him, after he called out to her.

"What are you talking about, Hun? Come, let's go home."

The woman took his hands to pull him along with her, but he just pushed her hands away in disgust.

"Didn't I tell you to never approach me again? You have ruined my life enough with your interference, I'll said often enough that I never want to see you again. The door is there you have one minute to leave the premises, or I really call the police on you!"

After he said that, the face of the woman contorted from anger and it seemed like she was about to shout at him, when suddenly ancle cuff activated and she got electrocuted.

"How can you do this to your own moth..."

"This is the last strand, Karen. You just burned the last remaining hope I had in you down, I hope you are happy with that. You know, it's really a wonder how I managed to thrive, despite having such a deplorable and abusive parent like you. I mean, look at me! I am a doctor for god's sake. Yet, you still follow me around like a leech, leeching the life out of me. I moved out in the first place to have my peace from you, yet you insisted on bothering me, you were the one that told me to follow your rules under your roof, yet you never did so in my house. I have enough of you, you have the gall to show up in front of me, when you were the reason why my wife and daughter died. So please, just also die so I can be pitiful and say that every important woman in my life died."

Hearing this, the woman turned silent for a second, but she didn't do so because she was reflecting on the things she did, she did so, because this was the first time he screamed at her, an action that enraged her to no end.

"You came out of my womb, I bore you, so you have a responsibility to pay me back... atrgbewinvfmgbbvofnghrf."

Dr. Mori just shocked her again and called the police, he clearly had enough of her.

His life already was in shambles and now she decided to bother him.

But he still had to chuckle, this really was only a minor annoyance and this woman was only a stranger that insisted on paying back a debt that wasn't existing.

How was is again? Toxic to toxic and wholesome to wholesome?

This really should be the point of change in his life.

*Insert Gintama Trollface*

"LOLOLOLOLOLOL, this is a medical emergency! Maybe we should call an ambulance for her, 112, 112, an emergency is here! What, I am a doctor? Am I now? I always thought that I was a leech that would never be something, isn't that so?"

Anyways, barely anything new. It was a decent chapter, I hastily deleted due to wanting to change things up.

Though, it's still not that good, I would say it's all in all barely alright.
