Survival

After I had jogged about a mile into the woods, I began to tire and the numbness in my left arm began to turn into pain. So I found a little group of trees, and their branches had intertwined to create a sort of roof that sheltered from the sun pretty well, and laid the fox girl on her belly there. I pulled my jacket off her and examined the wound. The skin had stopped bubbling, but there were several blisters and some of the burns were beginning to bleed.

Agh, I don't have any bandages or anything. I thought frantically. There have to be some herbs around here I can use.

I looked around. The best solution would be aloe. I thought. But I doubt that's around here. This area is more like North America, and the likelihood of finding it is little to no-

I saw a plant that looked similar to the aloe vera plant, but it was a bluish color. So, naturally I checked it out, and when I broke one of the leaves the thick, goopy liquid that classic to the aloe vera plant leaked out.

Safest way to determine if this'll work is to test it on myself. I thought. I wiped some of the gel from the leaves onto the tips of my fingers and spread the goopy liquid on the burn on my arm. The relief was almost immediate. A cool feeling spread through my arm and the feeling turned from the numbness and pain to just normal and cool arm feelings.

Once I had spread the gel on my wound, I uprooted one of the plants and carried it to the fox girl. I put my jacket on ground as a sort of blanket and put her on top of it so she was comfortable and not on the ground. Then I squeezed one of the strange shaped leaf things into my hand, but the second my hand came in contact with her back, the fox girl snapped awake and lurched away from me, and unfortunately landing on her back. She screamed in agony as I covered my eyes before I saw her chest.

"Calm down! Calm down, I'm here to help, not hurt you!" I said, with my eyes squeezed shut. I somehow grabbed the fox girl's hand and kept her from running away.

"You need to lay on your belly so I can put this gel on your burn, it'll help with the pain." I threw my jacket at her and heard her cover herself with it, so I opened my eyes.

The girl was staring at me with suspicion in her eyes. The coat was tightly wrapped around her chest, and she was shivering, not from cold or fear, but from pain.

"I'm not gonna hurt you," I said in a reassuring tone. "You saved me, I owe you a debt that I'm trying to repay."

The fox girl looks at me, her eyes full of suspicion. But she carefully lays down on her belly, still looking at me cautiously. She seemed ready for anything.

I put more of the aloe's(I mean, I think it's aloe, it's definitely similar) gel on my hand and allowed some of it to drip onto the wound on the girl's back. She flinched as the thick drops hit her back, but when i began to spread the gel on her back, I heard an very audible sigh of relief as the pain began to fade.

After I had the gel spread on her wound, I wiped my hands clean and leaned against a tree. I took this time to observe the fox girl. I can't lie, she's beautiful. She had brown hair and her ear fur was a lighter brown with white on the tips. Her tail was the same color as her ears and the tip of her tail was white. And she looked about the same age as m.(I'm 17)

"So, my name's Jay." I said. "And thanks again for the save, I really appreciate it."

The fox girl cocked her head and narrowed her eyes. "How have your kind survived all these years?" She asked. "All the humans are supposed to be dead."

I sighed. "I'm not from here, so if humans were wiped from this world, they're gone."

"What do you mean?" The fox girl said."All humans all over the globe were wiped from existence."

"I mean, I'm not from this Earth." I said. "Where I'm from, there are no animal people. Only humans."

The girl gave me a look like I'm crazy, and I saw her point a hand at me, as if to blast me with magic or something.

"Woah woah woah woah woah woah!" I said quickly, raising my hands and scooting away. "I know it sounds crazy, but it's true! I must be from another dimension or something!"

The girl lowered her hand, and looked up thoughtfully. "There is a possibility that you're the one the Oracles spoke of."

"Oracles? An oracle is someone that can see the future right?"

The girl nodded. "They get visions of the future, whether it be a vision, or a dream. And I know they usually predict prophecies , like in the books and stories, but here they just predict the future."

I nodded. "Makes sense. What did they say about me?"

"They sa-"

The girl is interrupted by a loud whoosh, as a portal opens. I struggled to my feet and braced for a fight, and I heard the girl do the same.

A fox guy stepped through, he looked to be about in his mid-late 20s. Maybe early 30s. And 2 others stepped through, another fox guy, this one looking about 18 or 19, and a dog girl, she looked about 30 or so. They both anxiously scanned the area, obviously looking for enemy soldiers.

"Ah, it appears that you've completed your mission Lana." He said, looking proud. I heard the girl(Lana apparently) relax, so I did the same. "Good job. Let's return to the Castle, we have quite a bit to discuss with this boy." He looked us up and down. "And we need to get you to the healers, you're both injured."

I smiled and sighed in relief. Finally, I can get some answers from someone who knows what's going on. I stepped through the portal, with Lana and the other 3 close behind me.
