8 Chapter 8 ~ He’s a Singer

After a few breathless moments, Alex pulled away; knowing the shock he saw in her eyes had to be mirrored in his own, but for his, that was a whole other reason. She smiled at him and he tried to smile back, but he knew it didn't quite reach his eyes.

"I better, um, get to bed. It's pretty late."

"Oh, right, yeah, of course." She leaned up and gently pressed her lips to his cheek.

"Good night, Alex."

"Good night, Kris." She waved as she walked back to her room. He sighed as he watched her retreating back then went on walking alone, losing himself in his thoughts.

He couldn't deny that the kiss was amazing and it sparked feelings in him. Of course, so did Theresa's. Maybe all this was just stemming from the fact that he really did miss his girl. 'Than why the hell haven't you returned her phone call?' his mind screamed. Damn good point. He pulled out his cell, looked at it for a moment, really debating if he wanted to call. "What the hell McLean. She's gonna be your wife, call her!" He sat down quickly, hitting his speed dial and waited for her to answer.

"So, he's alive." He grinned into the phone.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be. Told you I understood. I talked to D earlier." He swallowed, for he was well aware D could, and would, mention something if he so chose to.

"Yeah, what about?"

"You. Well, it was earlier and I was asking him why you were alone."

"Oh yeah, I've been on my own somewhat. Sometimes, I just see way too much of that man."

"I understand baby. Figured he would tell me a little more since you weren't answering your phone."

"I had left it in the room. And as I came to walk out on the beach, I thought about my baby and wanted to call her."

"Well, that's so sweet honey!" 'Yeah, it was, and a total lie,' his mind screamed once more. "Why aren't you out partying? It's still early isn't it?"

"Yes, it is. Just…not tonight. The water looked so inviting, as did the beach."

"Hopeless romantic. If they truly only knew." He watched the dancing waves, enjoying the sound of her voice, actually longing to be in her arms. "You grew quite sweetheart."

"Just thinking of how much I miss you. I would love to fly home." Her soft chuckle washed over him and he smiled.

"I know baby. But you need it. When you come back, it's going to be hectic and you know it. Tours, albums, and somewhere in there might be a wedding with a long ass honeymoon."

"You are coming on the tour right?"

"Yeah. I checked it over with my boss; he said it was fine, so I'm set."

"I don't know why you work."

"Because I'm not THE MRS. MCLEAN yet. When I am, I might think about it. Besides, my job is pretty easy, and I love it. I'm not one of those woman that can stay at home, cleaning the house all day. I have a hard enough time cleaning it half a day on the weekends! Even more so because the house is so big."

"Woman, you know you love it! Hell, weren't you the one to pick it out?"

"When we were friends. I didn't think, well, I hadn't actually thought I would be living in it." He laughed lightly, lying back on the sand, watching the moon and the stars.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm lying on the bed, why baby?"

"Go out on the balcony and lay on the lounge there, please?" He heard the rustling of the bed, than the sliding glass door to the bedroom and finally heard the movement of the chair.

"Okay, why?"

"Because I want you to look up at the moon and watch it, along with the stars."

"Let me guess, that's what you're doing, huh?"

"Yup. And I want to pretend, at least for a moment, that my soon to be wife is right next to me, enjoying this as much as I am. If you wanted to initiate phone sex, I won't object." He took in the night sky, listening to her talk once more, half of him longing for her, yet half of him longing for another female! And he couldn't deny it, nor could he fight it. He loved Resa, he knew this, so why the hell was another female starting to come into the picture?

----

Alex laid down on his bed, his eyes roaming over the ceiling, but his mind not comprehending much. He sighed, more out of frustration than anything else. He screwed up when he kissed Kris, he knew that. But, he couldn't stop his feelings, his thoughts, no matter how hard he tried. And maybe, just maybe, part of it was infatuation with Kris.

At one point, he did love her; he just hadn't mentioned that bit to anyone before. Okay, to the people who should really know and didn't. He closed his eyes, running one hand over his face, knowing his thoughts weren't going anyway anytime soon. And, well, what if he avoided Kris? Not totally, he still did want her friendship, but at least until either one of them left and he could back in Resa's arms. Right, he knew all too well that wasn't going to happen anymore than him telling her that he was engaged.

He sighed. D! Another problem. He couldn't make his best friend stay silent. And it's even more possible that D would make good on his threat, and actually, that tore Alex up inside. He ran his hands over his face as he got out of the bed, sitting on the edge. He heard his phone beep at him and he moved to get it, sighing as he saw it was D and hit the ignore button. He knew eventually he would talk to D, just right now; it was the last thing he wanted. Even more knowing that he had no idea what to tell him. Not like he needed to. D, like his other brothers, knew him pretty damn well. He sighed once more.

----

"Are you gonna tell me what's been keeping you these days?" Theresa asked, smiling at Kris through the phone.

"I don't know what you mean. You keep tons of things from me!"

"Like what?"

"How about your fiancé here?" Theresa giggled at that.

"What do you want me to say, Kris? Okay, I won't give you a name. How about some hints?"

"Okay, I can give you that."

"Fine. He's famous for one." Theresa knew she just shocked the hell out of her best friend.

"Who the hell is famous? Better yet, how did you land someone famous?"

"The landing I'll tell you later. But, he's a singer, he's damn sexy. Even sings with a couple other guys. Ever heard of the Vocal Harmony?"

"Like duh, who hasn't?"

"Good, cause he's one of them!" Kris almost dropped her phone, laughing as she managed to keep it upright.
