7 Chapter 7 ~ Romantic Music

She watched, with her eyebrow raised as he stabbed another piece of chicken, slowly taking it to his mouth, only to eat a piece of it. He sighed, letting his fork hit the plate. She cleared her throat, reaching for her water and taking a sip.

"You gonna tell me what's going on with you Alex?" His brown eyes shot to hers over the rim of his shades and this time it was her turn to sigh. How she hated them things. She totally loved looking into those eyes, why did he feel the need to cover them up? Oh, yes, it bared his soul, and heaven forbid that couldn't happen.

"What makes you think anything is wrong Kris?"

"You've said a grand total of twenty words tonight. You're lost in thought. And your poor chicken has been stabbed more times than I can count. Talk to me, what's going on?" Alex closed his eyes, grateful for the protection his glasses were giving him, even though he knew it was foolish.

"D and I sorta got into a heated argument before I left."

"Oh, wanna tell me about it?" He bit the inside of his cheek, hating himself for it.

"It was something stupid. But, fighting always bothers me."

"Wanna go and make up with him?" In spite of his feelings, he had to laugh. Leave it to Kris to help him feel better. He shook his head, glancing up at her again.

"No, I'm sorry. I didn't want tonight to be bad, but it is, because of me."

"No way. D is your best friend; I would be the same way if I got into it with my best friend too."

"Do I get name here?"

"Of her, no." He laughed again, shaking his head.

"How is that fair?"

"It's not Alex, but I just don't care. I don't have to share everything with you, you know? I am allowed to keep some things to myself here."

"I guess I can give you that." She smiled and rolled her eyes before taking a bite of her own meal.

"How much longer are you going to be here?"

"I think we have like four or five days left. When D says go, I'm gone. Besides, when I'm in the company of a beautiful woman, I very much try not to think of the time I have left."

"Alex," she started, tilting her head to the side to regard him, "has anyone ever told you just how much of a flirt you really are?" 'Yes,' his mind screamed. His fiancé told him that all the time actually.

"I hear it every now and then. But I love to make women blush; it's a joy I get." He watched as the rosy color washed over her cheeks. "Much like that in fact."

-----

They walked alone in silence, the waves crashing along the shore and around their ankles before residing back. She held onto his hand, very content with just being with him, no words, no nothing. And deep within, she could feel something was bothering him, something about the fight with D, yet he wasn't spilling, and she knew he wouldn't give any more details. Which was something she had always loved about him, when the time came for it, he could be very private; a good and a bad thing in one.

"What happened with D's marriage?" He seemed startled before he turned to look at her.

"What?"

"D and Leigh, what happened? I thought he was so in love with her?"

"Oh…uh, he was. Kinda. I think part of it was he was in love with the idea of marriage and having a family. It's what he's always wanted. Was jealous of Bri and Kevin for having theirs, in fact. So, I think he sorta settled for Leigh. He loved her, but was he in love with her like he should have been, no. And after a while, he realized that.

"He wasn't content as one should be when married, even after a couple of years. Then he found the pills that was were keeping her from getting pregnant, and he blew. He was so pissed, for that proved she never really wanted the family. Just the money, the fame, or the name, he wasn't certain. And honestly, he didn't care. He split so quickly, the lawyers had the papers drawn up, signed and filed within a matter of three weeks, the fastest anyone has ever done anything." Alex shrugged, his gaze turning out over the ocean. "That's why marriage is such a huge step. It's supposed to mean forever, and to some, it doesn't."

"Very true, you can't enter something like lightly."

"Did you tell your best friend that?"

"Yes I did. She's head over heels in love with him, and he worships her. Or, so she says. I'll figure it out when I meet him."

"I can't believe you haven't met him yet. Seeing how she's your best friend and all."

"We don't live in the same state. But we totally talk all the time. Email, twitter, text, you name it, we are in constant contact."

"That makes loads of sense." Alex chuckled, enjoying the sound of Kris's laughter. He turned his attention back to the waves, lost really within his own thoughts.

"Alex?" He turned his eyes from the ocean to glance over at her, taking in her soft features, her delicate lips that were begging for a kiss.

"What?" Mentally, he had to shake himself and those ideas. He really couldn't be going down the road.

"How come you never got married?" That really brought him up short. Now would be the perfect time to say something, anything about his fiancé, but no…nothing like that came out.

"I guess I just never found the right girl to marry. I've asked, but something has always happened." Okay, not a complete lie. He wasn't married, only engaged, big difference there.

"Oh, I guess that makes sense, being who you are and everything." He paused, his hand tugging on hers to stop. "What?"

"It's not easy to find someone who loves you for you. It never is. But it seems so much worse when you have fame, money, hell even looks. I don't regret my past or being who I am." He stepped closer to her, the waves crashing along the shore side being the romantic music he needed; the brilliant full moon casting the soft sensual light that he was looking for. All of it was perfect, just as she was.

His hand cupped her cheek, her eyes stared into his for a brief moment before her lashes fluttered and her eyes closed. He smiled to himself as his head descended and he lips brushed hers once, twice, three times before fully capturing her lips.
