Cruel and Cold

Chapter III

"Skyler."

That name ran around in Leo's head again and again.

"For her personality that name is a bit too frail..."

he thought assumingly.

she turned around and walked back toward him. He wondered why she was walking towards him and why she stopped right in front of him. He saw her raised her hand in front of him as if she was asking for something.

"Sorry I don't have money."

He joked but got a hard smack on the arm for cracking such a low level joke to her.

He laughed.

"Give 'that' back."

She demanded.

"What?"

He asked Confused, not sure of what she was asking for.

"argh!"

She groaned at how dumb he was.

"What?!"

He asked offended at her behaving like he had no brains.

"Give me my glasses back, you dumbass!"

She finally yelled at him.

"Oh this! you should have asked for this in the first place"

He tried to cover the fact that he was dumb enough to not notice what she was actually asking for. A nervous laugh left his lips.

He handed her, her glasses back, she took it back and walked back  in her class, facing her back to him.

He just got back to walking around the school with kind of a peace in mind that he found what he was looking for.

The next day Leo woke up too late for school so he decided to take just a stroll around his school and not go instead.

It was a sunny day yet a bit too hot for a normal sunny day.

Leo put a cold water bottle in his bag and some chocolates and snacks to munch on.

No matter how lazy and disinterested in things Leo was, he was still another teen who loves to goof around.

Walking here and there, seeing the scenery of his surrounding instead of getting kicked out of his every class was better, it looked like skipping a day or two once in awhile was actually not so bad.

Walking on the foot park beside the playground for kids, Leo took a bite of his snack in his hand. He saw a little black kitten in a cardboard box, it looked like someone had left it because they can't afford to raise it.

"Plz adopt it" it was written on the box. Leo walked towards the cat and kneeled down to pick it up. The cat had bright green eyes, it was not much old.

"How can someone be so heartless to leave such a little guy.."

Leo mutter to himself in a tone full of pity.

he picked the pitch kitten up and hugged it as he patted his head. The kitten grew affectionate towards Leo as well.

But Leo stopped, he put the kitten back to where it was. Back in the box.

The little kitten made such a face like it was going to cry, it cried out "meow!!" and tried to reach Leo with his little paws even though it knew, it was too small to even get out of the box.

Leo stood on his feet and put his hand in the pockets of his jacket.

"Sorry buddy, I can't take you in. I can't take care of myself, how am I suppose to take care of you? it was cruel of me to make you attach with me. sorry."

Leo apologized to the little fellow. Ignoring the cries of the kitten, he started walking inside the park.

"This world don't show mercy so easily. people come in your life, make you used to them like you both can't live without each other and one day, like so suddenly leave you behind. This is how the world works and no one can really do anything about it. Its just how it is, a simple world can define this world. Cruel. A plain yet a strong word."

Leo wondered on in his mind but he never thought he would ever see what he saw just now.

The girl who made him so uneasy and messed up just so he can find in which class she is in, her existence made him think only about her almost every hour but she had no idea how she had made him go upside down.

She was holding hands with another guy. She looked happy, it looked like holding hands with him made her so happy.

The strong grip on his big hand of hers own Small ones proved how much warmth she was feeling, how much comfortable and protected she felt.

The guy she was with was able to made her smile in a way he knew he never would. His presence beside her made her let her all guard down when she is the type who will never trust easily.

The smile Leo was finding irritating, she was finding it soothing, comforting, assuring of happiness and warm.

In this hot whether somehow Leo felt no warmth in his heart, like there was nothing in his life to give him warmth. He felt empty again, he might have thought that this emptiness could go away now but he was mistaken.

He forgot, sometimes people come in your life just to leave you one day. Just how he and many others left that kitten.

Leo watched them with a unfazed  expression and said,

"I almost forgot to mention how cold the world is"
