8 Fears

Fears that were instilled when we are young are the fears that will stay with us until we die. Maybe you can ignore it, distract yourself from it, but it's still lingering in the back of your mind. A few can overcome it, but most are able to live with their fears as it didn't interfere much with their life. The severity of those fears will of course depend on how it was created.

The one thing that Yu Yan fears the most is being used, being betrayed. It started with the warnings whispered to her ears when she was young to the books she read and the movies she watched. The horror of the tears that would start falling and never stop, an empty feeling in your chest that might never fill up.

Yu Yan believed that being lonely forever[1] was much better than being betrayed once. Using the simple logic that things feel emptier if they once full.

There had been talk of a transfer student that had the whole school fired up, because she was a commoner. Well, even if she wasn't a commoner, she would've still gotten a lot of attention as it wasn't very often that a new student comes along. She had gotten in by scholarship and the reason she arrived a few days late was because of 'family problems' which weren't specified.

"Hey, Yu Yan was it? Can you help me around, this is a rather large school and everyone seems so intimidating!" a girl came up to Yu Yan, her hair was a shade of light brown, and Yu Yan was unsure if it was dyed or natural. Her face had a very light touch of makeup that made her look younger and she was a head shorter than Yu Yan who was 157 cm (5'2 in).

"Sure," Yu Yan kindly replied, "I don't think you told me your name?"

"Ah, it's Ting Hua and I got your name from a passing stranger so please don't think I'm a stalker," her teardrop shaped eyes were sparkling with merriment and a small giggle escaped her. None of the usual nervousness that was often found when commoners were talking to the richer people.

"Don't I look as intimidating as the rest of them, though?" Yu Yan had to wonder what set her apart from the rest of the other rich students.

"Your a commoner, aren't you? I mean, I don't see you wearing anything high end. And your pretty, I've always had a soft spot for pretty things."

Yu Yan pretended to laugh, unaware that her defences had gone up the moment Ting Hua mentioned that she was pretty. The reason she why she didn't wear an jewelry was because of a voice at the back of her mind. The words it said was blurry and it was too young for her to determine was its gender was.

"I didn't think you'd notice, I thought I blended in pretty well," Yu Yan said jokingly, "but I'm not the only one who doesn't wear any jewelry."

"Well then call it fate that we met, besides I think I'd know someone of my own kind. And my class is 2-B do you know where that is?"

"Sure, just follow me and...."[2] Yu Yan stopped mid sentence and shook her head.

"And?" Ting Hua asked curiously.

"I forgot, I guess it wasn't important."

'Fate is cruel, did you know that?' that was what she wanted to say.

[1] forever is such a cliché word ;-;

[2] don't you just hate it when people stop mid sentence?
