2 It's her Parents

"Hey man. Iza jo(cool down dude)  You look upset. Is it your girlfriend again?"

My younger, nosy brother strutted into my room drinking a can of Coca-Cola and snatched the remote from me.

"Hey bro. First, it is not yet official so please do not call her that. I love her and all but we have not labelled what we feel yet. Secondly, it is her parents!

They are just conservative.

I mean we live in a new era now. They are setting her up with Kikuyu guys and they threatened to disown her if she continues seeing me."

" Sorry man. It is surprising that her dad does not hate you for being poor but for being from another tribe. Something is definitely wrong with him. But do not give up your girl... I mean Lily. She is a gem. I myself can not find a girl such as her. Fight! Fight! Fight!"

" I get you but I can not allow it for her to be disowned by her parents. She is still in University, pursuing medicine, in fact, so she requires her parents financial support still. My love will only destroy her future if she decides to choose me. I can not let her do that."

"Stop making the decision for her Felix. She can find a solution to that problem if you are still by her side. Man, that girl is obsessed with you. Do not  even think of breaking her heart."

I had to admit that Lui was right. But it was not going to be as simple as he put it.

***

"Dad. I have a big problem.

I hope you will not get mad when I tell you about it," I almost whispered because I did not know how he would react if I told him.

"Son before you say anything I have something to tell you as well. You remember I told you that my boss is planning to transfer me to the factory in Kisumu so that I can manage it on his behalf."

I had forgotten about that. Dad was one of the most trusted employees of the company in which he worked but it didn't earn him a decent pay. But a few months ago his boss told him that he had opened another plant in our hometown Kisumu and he wanted my dad to go manage it. The salary was going to be tripple and my dad wanted an opportunity to go back to his hometown and dive back into the culture he had left behind when he came to the city to seek employment.

"Son! I got the job. We shall be heading out in this weekend so you better start packing," he said excitedly.

I almost fell off my chair. He meant that we would be moving the day after tomorrow. How was I going to leave Lily, let alone even tell her about it.

"Son...Felix... what's up. You wondered off into space as I was talking. What did you mean to tell me earlier?"

" Nothing dad!" I got up and ran away from there as fast as I could. I needed to be alone so that no one could see the hurt in my eyes.
