Shimotsuki Ryoma is a legendary, world-famous samurai hailing from the Shimotsuki Family of Wano Country, who lived during Wano's "Country of Gold" era centuries ago. He was revered for his mastery of swordsmanship, which earned him the title Sword God, as well as his feat of slaying a dragon.

As he devoured Ryoma, he held the sword that should be owned by Zoro in the future when the Straw Hat entered the Thriller Bark arc.

In the past, Masa would have only thought that this was just a good sword in black color, but after he gained Ryoma's memory, he knew that this was a black sword, a sword that had been imbued with Armament Haki for so long that it remained black as it was covered in Haki even after the death of its user, making it significantly more durable.

Still, compared to this sword, there was no doubt the swordman's skill and talent, which he gained from this "Sword God," were more impressive.
