Starred Up

Deen, a seven year old boy, arrives in Korea with his mother Mia. With a strong determination to raise her son properly, Mia ensures Deen lacks no love in his life. In her spare time, Mia is a huge fangirl of the Korean boy group, TNT. But in an unexpected twist of fate, the mother-son duo end up being the neighbors of D3, another legendary boy group, which happens to be TNT's biggest rival. D3 consists of the short tempered Taewon, gentle Joon Jae and the goofy Jan. On top of that, Mia is hired as the personal designer for TNT, which consists of the charismatic leader Soo-Yon and the playboy maknae Cheng. Despite the rocky start, Mia and her son grow closer to all the members of both the groups. With time, the members realize they have fallen in love with the same woman, disrupting each group's dynamics. Furthermore, the origins of the hostility between the two groups resurface, making everyone involved question the decision they made a decade ago. As secrets unfold, the members vie for Mia's affections, Deen observes that she has eyes only for one of them. But which one of them will she choose? Deen-Unfair

He lunged at me but I was quick. I sprinted past him and ran for my life. He chased me across the halls, screaming curses at me. Big and bulky, he was not fast enough to catch me. I ran to the yard and climbed the closest tree I could find. The boy came running out, panting for breath. He looked around, but didn't see me up on the branch. He snooped around, looking for me. He was about to look up, when the bell rang, saving me from his clutches. Angry at being insulted, he let out a cry and stormed back in.

I stayed on the tree for a while, till the coast was clear. After five minutes, I got down and headed back to class. I was about to enter when-

'Deen!' I spun around to see our class teacher calling me. 'Follow me,' she ordered. What now?

I followed her to the Principal's office. To my horror, the burly boy was sitting there. He smirked at me when I entered.

'Did you drop food on Jungmo?' the Principal asked sternly.

'Yes, but he-' I started.

'See?' the class teacher cut me off. 'Fighting on his very first day! We shouldn't have taken someone like him in!'

'But he started it!' I protested. 'He called me a-a-a-'

I couldn't recall the word.

'He dropped food on me!' Jungmo bawled. He was...crying?

'I just wanted to say hello,' Jungmo said in between his tears. The class teacher went over to hug him.

'There there,' she consoled him, patting his back. Jungmo gave an evil smile. What a liar!

The Principal tutted.

'And here I thought you were a good child,' he said sadly. 'I'll have to call your mother. I understand she is busy but clearly you are spoilt. Understandable, that you don't have a father. But this is unacceptable.'

What does having a father got to do with anything? Did it matter?

But I was more worried about Mee. She was not going to take this well. And it was her first day at work too...

A knock came on the door.

'Come in,' the Principal said.

A girl around my age, came in. She looked nervous.

'Hae-Ra, why are you here?' the class teacher asked.

'I heard Jung-Mo complained about the new boy,' she squeaked. I know I am a kid, but boy was that girl small. The uniform she wore was oversized; she had to keep the sleeves rolled up. Her black hair was tied into two ponytails. Her round face looked scared and worried.

'Do you have anything to say, Hae-Ra?' the Principal asked gently. She nodded.

'What is there to say?' the teacher asked incredulously. 'Clearly, Deen is the culprit here.'

'He's not!' Hae-Ra exclaimed. The Principal and teacher looked at her in surprise. Hae-Ra went red.

'Deen is not at fault,' she said a bit firmly. 'Jungmo started the fight. He called Deen a bastard! And also insulted his mother.'
