She paid for the things and we walked home. We were at the foot of the stairs, when Mee's phone rang. She took it out to check the number.
'Honey,' she said, handing me the key. 'Can you open the door and head in? I'll come in after taking this call. I'll be right outside.'
I nodded and went upstairs. As I closed the door behind me, something felt strange. I felt as if I was not alone. It was dark. I searched for the switch but then realized it was too high up; I can't reach it. Were they burglars? I doubted it. If there were burglars, I would have been knocked out or attacked upon by now.
'What was that?' A voice came from the darkness, nearly making me jump. But Mee taught me a few things which I should follow. Keeping myself alive was more important. I stealthily tried to creep towards the kitchen and hid under the sink. But the stupid floor creaked. Under the dim light, I can make out a human figure standing a few feet away from me. The back was probably turned to me.
'I-is anyone there?' Came the voice again. 'Calm down Jan. There are no ghosts here. Those were just made up stories.'
Ghosts? Hmm.
'Hee hee hee,' I gave a low laugh. The person jumped in fright.
'Joonjae,' it called out. 'It's not funny!'
'Ahjusshi,' I said in Korean. 'I wanna play.'
'J-j-j-j-joonjae,' the man screeched. 'Cut it out!'
'Ah-jus-shi,' I wailed. 'Come. Plaaaay.'
The man went still. He slowly turned around to face me and fell back at the sight of the ghost buried under numerous layers of clothing. He definitely was not the smart type. I raised my hands and let out ghastly noises.
'AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!' he screamed and scrambled out. I stood there laughing loudly. Boy, I loved being a kid.
Deen's sadistic side is kinda fun xD
I'm gonna enjoy writing more of Jan and Deen's dynamic. Both of them after all, have the mindset of a kid.
