Chapter Twenty-Seven

As soon as the elevator doors opened all of us rushed out, heading toward the main bay.

"What do you think are the chances that they are waiting for us there?"

Sabine posed a very good question.

I tilted my head to the side as we turned a corner.

"Oh they are, we just have to get through."

It was true, they were most probably a large group that would meet us there, but we just had to get to the Phantom, so I liked our chances.

"Oh, is that all?"

I ignored Zeb in favor of noticing the doors in the whole hall closing. It was a straight path, but we would not get there in time if we had to slow down to jump through the gaps.

Thrusting my hand forward, the first few doors stopped, the Force holding them down. After we ran past those, I sent a wave of force forward, slamming them into the remaining doors, bending the edges enough to let us pass with considerably less trouble.

Finally, we reached the giant door that would lead us to our destination, I could feel the amount of troopers that were on the other side.

"Great, do we have a plan to open this one?"

We stopped and I sent one last look in the direction we came from, nobody was following us yet, but I doubt it would remain that way for long.

Turning to the giant door, I debated whether to open it or just slam a spike of force through to create a small hole, though, that would take a considerable amount of time.

"Get to cover, I take care of the door."

Grabbing two smoke grenades from my belt, I threw it down in front of the door.

That was it, the last grenades I brought for this mission. As the smoke rose I reached into the force, directing it at the door and locating the opening mechanism.

With a tug, the door started opening leaving nothing between me and the firing squad that waited on the other side. Grabbing my blaster I rushed forward, using the force to grab the red saber and activate it.

The momentary confusion was enough for me to use the Force to launch myself forward.

With a single swing, a helmet rolled on the ground and I aimed my blaster at one of the troopers who was on a canon. With a pull of a trigger, there was one less nuisance for me to deal with.

I rolled forward, avoiding a barrage of blaster bolts, and ran forward in a wide arc around the troopers. As soon as most of them lined up, I sent a wave of force in their direction, knocking them off the ramp.

As I was about to deal with the remaining troopers, a large amount of force signatures came into my sensing radius. Did they send TIE fighters?

Rolling to the side, I looked up to see the Phantom, followed by a large number of flying creatures. Forcing the confusion to the side, I shot two of the remaining eight stormtroopers, leaving two gaping holes in their chests as I spotted Kanan, Zeb, and Sabine come onto the bay in my peripherals.

I used the saber to deflect a bolt that would hit my helmet back at its sender and rushed forward. Blasing one in the leg, I used the force to launch him in the trajectory of two bolts that were barreling toward me.

Lowering my body to make myself a smaller target I neared the first trooper that was in my path slicing off his hand that held the blaster. Maneuvering behind him, I deactivated my saber and used his body as a shield as I aimed my blaster at the last few targets.

Bolts impacted the body I was using to hide behind as I returned the favor in kind, my bolts burning through their necks, helmets, and lungs.

Releasing a breath through my nose, I dropped the dead body and turned toward the canons, only to see them being distracted by the flying creatures that followed Hera.

Shrugging mentally at the turn of events, I ran toward the Phantom where Zeb was extending a hand for me to grab. Timing my jump correctly, I used the force to launch myself across the gap between the ramp and the ship, grabbing the Lassat's hand and letting him pull me inside.

"We're all in, Go, go go!"

The door closed behind me and the ship accelerated. Breathing out a sigh of relief, I looked at Kanan and Sabine. Kanan had his hand chopped off, and Sabine probably had a fractured, if not broken, leg.

All in all, we got off easy.

"I'm guessing Luminara is dead?"

I winced internally at the question, come on, people are hurt and I'm asking about a woman I didn't even know.

Kanan nodded, not even looking at his missing limb and keeping his eyes closed.

Sitting down, I took off my helmet and rubbed the bridge of my nose.

This was a mess.
