16 Chapter Sixteen

As soon as I came to, my eyes snapped open and my head shot up from the seat of the hoverbike.

I didn't need to do it, I knew I was alive, but my hand shot to my chest, right were my heart was and remained there, confirming my well being by feeling of my beating heart.

I almost died.

That thought registered in my mind and lingered there, like a cancer that would slowly eat away at it as time passed. That was bad, I needed to calm down.

Taking a deep breath I stood up, trying to do something to distract myself but was immediately hit with a dizzy spell, causing me to lean on the turned off bike next to me. Slowly, I managed to stabilize myself and looked around.

It was dark, sun must have set a long time ago. The clearing was just as decollate as it was when I passed out, but I noticed something, not about the surroundings, but about myself. I could feel it again. I could feel the force permeating the ground, the grass, and some things hiding inside that I couldn't see before. I could feel the force again.

Taking another deep breath to calm my raging emotions, I look at the ground, I must have lost a lot of blood, it would take me a while to recover. Whatever the force did to help me, it couldn't magically manifest blood in my system.

A part of me felt bitter, at myself, that after all this time, I managed to let the hold on the force slip. A part of me felt remnants resentment, because of what happened all those years ago. I felt relief that I lived to see another day and a part of me felt thankful, because if it wasn't for the force, I would be dead.

And I wasn't sure if I would be lucky enough to be reincarnated again.

Truly, I was saved right in the nick of time.

It must have been that force healing thing, knowing that would come in handy in the future, if I could recreate it.

Something like that must have created ripples in the force, someone must have felt it, and now, I would have an unwanted tail, even if they didn't know who they were looking for. I would rather avoid fighting another inquisitor if I could help it.

Sighing, I reached up and tugged at the bandages I didn't have much time when I wrapped myself, so as soon as the end that was holding it together was unlatched, the rest fell down to the ground.

Tentatively, I reached for my back ang glided my hand across the place where the scar should have been. I felt nothing, but there should be a scar there. With a sigh, I reached into one of my belt pouches and took out a mirror. Ever since I got the first scar on my back, I kept it there just if something like this happened.

I suppressed another sigh at the sight of another scar, right next to the old one, crating an off center cross on my back. It came down right above my behind, thankfully. How else would I impress the ladies?

And besides, imagine the story behind that. "Someone cut my ass, I didn't even know their name", yeah, right.

With a sigh, I reached down to open up the seat of the hoverbike and rummaged around inside, grabbing a protein bar. I needed to get food in my system, even if it wasn't fulfilling.

Taking a deep breath, I looked at the bandages on the ground and raised a hand. It had been a while, so I might have been a bit out of practice.

Slowly, the bandages began to raise, the force obeying my will, preforming the task as I wanted. I couldn't help but frown. Previously, it would have folded up the entire roll, I could do that with it's aid, but now, it seems like the force was displeased with me, or it didn't want to displease me further.

With a deep sigh, I stretched my limbs and got on the bike again.

I needed to get back to the tower, re-forge my armor, and get the hang of the force again. Now that it was back, due to me no longer denying my connection, there was no point in acting like a child.

Now that I looked back on it, I felt really childish. It was a moment that I would look back in the future and feel ashamed of myself... I already did, in fact.

"... Thanks."

I mumbled under my breath as I started the bike again. Even after almost dying, I still had things to do. No rest for the wicked, as they say. And it seems like I was one wicked motherfucker.

I felt the force pulse as I drove off towards the tower.
