The Dodgy Blaster 4

The holographic disguise fizzled out of existence with a hum of electricity, revealing Wires original form. The arm draped over me went from pale white skin to several cold plates of metal that did nothing to hide the numerous electrical cables running through the appendage.

Stepping away with his arms raised, Wires' speaker emitted a cold robotic laugh, "I was only joking. Besides, ran some calculations and there was only a two percent chance of you following through with your threat."

"And what about that last two percent?" I pressed, my blaster still pointing at the cross-dressing droid.

The laughter cut and Wires immediately dropped to his knees, much to the surprise of me and everyone else at the bar, Wires begged, "Master Secura I beg you. Tell him to spare me."

Wide eyed, Aayla blinked before taking on a familiar mischievous look when she realised the Wires genuinely thought his time might be up, "Hm~ Why should I…"

"I still have a high level of usability serving under Master Lycan. Being susceptible to bouts of irrationality when his temper flares up…"

"My what?"

Ignoring his 'Masters' words Wires continued, "I'm afraid that he may scrap me and come to regret his decision later. In other words, I'm merely asking you to look after your students' best interests."

"The droid does make a fair point. He manages to keep the clones in line when it starts to get rowdy." Ros Lai piped in.

Clicking the safety back on and dropping my wrist, I lit another cig out of necessity and wondered, "What went wrong with your programming Wires? You just keep getting weirder and weirder as time goes on."

Still on the ground, the droid replies, "Don't ask me. I just run the code, not make it." His luminescent eyes flickering slightly in a way that resembled a blink.

I'd have a go at straightening him out, but there's a higher chance I'd made it worse. Wires' coding is incredibly elaborate for his model, typically Holodroids only have three settings at the maximum while Wires has upwards of ten.

Adding the fact he can mesh them together to produce a mesh of the various combat styles I've uploaded. Which in all honesty is probably the reason for his quirk nature, all the different learning algorithms are mixed together making his thought process unnatural allowing Wires come up with strange solutions to situations.

…But the cross-holodressing's still a mystery.

As I was contemplating my many, many mistakes in the creations of Wires, the object of my scrutiny finally climbed off the floor and explained why he was here, "Master, you've been repeatedly contacted by an unknown number on your house's holodisc." Taking out a considerably more bulky version of the machine, Wires asks,"Do you recognise this number?"

A long string of numbers appeared on the blue projection, and after a short inspection the number coincided with a certain Jedi whom I recently traded contacts with.

"I thought he'd be out with his… partner." I mumbled while pressing the button to return the missed call.

"Who is it?" Aayla probed, leaning over to catch a glimpse of the number before it flushed away and the holodisc began emitting a low ring.

"Skywalker." I answered, "I gave him my contact so he could help me with building a couple of parts for my starfighter. I've been stuck on the gyroscopic control of the command pod, and need some fresh eyes to see where I'm going wrong.

In my spare time, I've been building a starfighter which has a lot in common with the not yet made - rebel B-wing. The difference is that, instead of having only one airfoil latched onto the cockpit, on mine there's two which places the cockpit in the centre.

Having the two foils allows me to add far more weaponry onto the fighter, causing the final price to be much more expensive compared to the ones the rebels would produce in the future.

"Though I wasn't expecting him to call so soon." Just when I finished explaining, the ringing stopped and a miniature version of Anakin formed on my palm.

"Is this a good time?" Anakin asked, "Your primary number wouldn't go through, so I tried calling your back up."

"Yeah, it's all good. I forgot to tell you that my holodisc was destroyed during the last mission." I explained while inwardly griping about the hassle of going back up to the temple to get a new one.

I really should've picked one up before coming down to the bar. Now I'll need to waste my time flying all the way back up there.

"I heard the news. Congratulations on your promotion to Jedi knight." He commended me while smiling, "I would've liked to do it in person, but I ended up getting…sidetracked training…Ahsoka." He added, unsurely, not contributing much to his lie was the fact he was standing outside what looked to be one of the high-rise buildings in the senate district.

"Thanks man, appreciate it." I replied, honestly surprised that he would call me up just to say that, and a little shocked that information travelled around so quickly considering I only got knighted a little more than a few hours ago.

"I've been tasked with reporting some other news as well since the council couldn't get in contact." Anakin said with significantly less enthusiasm, "You're getting deployed to Ryloth with me soon. Should be around the end of the week, we need to wait on Obi-wa- Master Kenobi's return from Naboo before we can set out."

"A Ryloth huh?" Taking a quick glance at Aayla who began to really pay attention when her homeworld was brought up. "Right, I'll tell the council I got the message. Anything else I need to know?"

"Yeah, about the gyroscope. I can't come over tomorrow and take a look at it if you're ready?" Anakin said.

"Alright I'll get you at the temple tomorrow then." I replied, at least I won't need to go to the temple twice anymore.

Hanging the call up I turned to Wires, "Why didn't you answer the calls from the council?" I asked.

"What do you mean? You told me to ignore those calls?" He innocently uttered.

"Did I?" I responded, trying to remember when I said such a thing, "Was I sober?"

"Yes." Wires promptly said.

"Alright. It's my fault then." I admitted my mistake, "Next time it happens, put the call through to me."

Dubbing out my cigarette, I gave my attention to Aayla who, despite looking unphased, started exuding concern for her fellow Twi'lek's the instant she was reminded of the Separatist occupation of Ryloth.
