Curiosity Killed The Cat

*ZAP*

The flash from the lightning occupies my vision for a moment.

"Woah, that lightning was unnaturally strong! Could it be the birth of some heaven defying treasure?" I muttered to myself as fantasies of rising to the top of the world spring inside my mind.

"Drey, you're not allowed to go outside, ok? You know how dangerous it can be in this type of weather." Mom's voice startled me out of my fantasy. It looks like even in the kitchen, she saw the flashing lightning.

"I know Mom," I said while rolling my eyes at thin air. I know she means well but I'm already 15 years old this year, I know what to do and what not to do.

" Don't think that I don't know that you're rolling your eyes right now. I also wouldn't nag this much if it wasn't for your actions just last week!" Mom's beautiful yet naggy voice sounded.

" Your mom's right, Drey. Sneaking out to hunt when you haven't even grown hair yet is not the brightest idea." Dad said while observing for damage in his spear.

" But I wasn't going back then to hunt. I was just enter a bit because I lost the bet with Jason!" I said subconsciously. Then, I realize I said something wrong.

" What! You're still hanging out with that Jason kid?! Didn't I tell you to stay away from that child?!" Mom's voice suddenly became quite angry.

" But Mom, he's not a bad person!"

" Don't argue with your Mom, Drey. You won't understand. Jus listen to us, ok?"

" But-"

" No buts, now eat your breakfast." Dad said while putting back his spear and washing his hands.

" Nevermind. I lost my appetite." I said walking toward my room.

Closing the door, I thought of my conversation with Jason once.

" Drey, people here really doesn't like me, huh. Is it just because I'm an outsider or because I seem to bring misfortune." He had said as he stretched his hand to the sky.

"I don't know." I had said back then.

Jason has suddenly in the territory of our village in a cradle one day. A kind hearted couple took pity on him and decided to raise him as their child. But the couple met a horrible end. In fact, their luck hadn't been good after they decided to adopt Jason. At least, that's what my parents told me.

I didn't think it was true. Since I hadn't had any bad luck in my three years of being friends with him.

In the middle of the night, I woke up due to hunger. I went down to look for leftovers but my caring parents left nothing.

I decided to go out to pick some fruits. I can still see since it's a full moon. I climb the oldest mango tree and ate some sweet and delicious mangoes.

While I was eating, I noticed a faint flashing blue light near the village. Just within a hundred meters into the forest.

'Is that where the lightning stroke?', the thought occured to me.

"Is it really the birth of a treasure?", I muttered to myself as a hesitated over going or not. In the end, my curiosity won and I began to walk carefully to the forest.
