Stallions and Studs: Shoulda Been a Cowboy

“Look at this one,” Charlie Bradley said, handing his iPhone to his coworker.

They were having lunch in the cafeteria of their high-rise office building in downtown Chicago.

“Hmmm…” Danny Burke replied, swallowing a mouthful of turkey club. “Never gonna happen.”

“Yes, it will,” Charlie answered stubbornly. “This time he promised I could make the choice for our vacation.”

“Charlie,” Danny said, dipping a French fry into a mixture of catsup and ranch dressing, “how many times has Jared Clarke said ‘you choose,’ and then when you picked a place to eat or somewhere to hang out, said ‘Naw, we’re going where I want.’”

Charlie knew Danny was right. Charlie’s boyfriend, Jared, rarely took Charlie’s interests or desires into consideration. All during the seven years they’d been together it was always Jared who decided when and where they would eat, dance, or vacation. And they would almost always vacation in some city with a gay district or gay resort. After awhile they all looked the same to Charlie: gay clubs, nude beaches, all indistinguishable from one another. Even when he looked at pictures years later he couldn’t tell where they had been taken.

But this time Charlie had made Jared promise to go along with his choice, and Charlie’s choice was a dude ranch that catered to a gay clientele. He’d always had a thing for cowboys. Charlie looked up from his iPhone’s screen. “There, see. Not only got all the cowboy stuff I’d like, but all the crap Jared likes as well. This time he’s gonna say yes.”

“Never gonna happen,” Danny said again, dipping another fry and taking a swig of his Coke.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Jared said with a smirk. “A dude ranch…in Idaho no less. What do you do there, dig for potatoes?” He laughed out loud. “No, Charlie, this year we’re going to New Orleans. There’s this really popular resort you’ll just lo—”

“You promised,” Charlie said somewhat petulantly.

Jared went to the refrigerator and took out a bottle of Chablis. Charlie sighed. Another sign of Jared’s wants before his. Charlie didn’t care for white wine, especially Chablis, and yet Jared was pouring two glasses without even asking if he wanted any.

“Charlie, I did notpromise anything. What I said was ‘Why don’t you see ifyou can find something for our vacation this year.’ I didn’t say you could make the final choice.” Jared handed Charlie his glass.

“Oh yes, you did. After we came home from Oscar’s party Saturday you distinctly said, ‘Charlie, it’s your turn to choose a place to go this summer. Wherever you want. It’s completely your choice.’ ”

Jared chuckled. “Well, my man, I was pretty drunk after we were at Oscar’s.”

Jared didn’t overindulge on a regular basis, but when they went to parties he usually got pretty blitzed. It really wasn’t too much of a problem. He didn’t usually turn mean, nasty, or maudlin when he was drunk. He got happy and horny which was sometimes to Charlie’s benefit.

He came over to Charlie and put the arm holding his wine around his boyfriend’s shoulders and pulled him close, grinding his package against Charlie’s.

“And as I remember, foggy as it is, we were engaged in some pretty serious fucking when the subject of vacations came up,” Jared continued as he rubbed Charlie’s cock through his trousers with his free hand. “So combine inebriation with horniness and you get all sorts of promises that aren’t really promises. “What? Do they ride ostriches instead of horses, herd chickens instead of cows?” Jared laughed again and went to sit on the couch where he leaned back and crossed his legs.
