Chapter 1: The Woods

On a dark and stormy night, two Vampires named Jaxx and Mavis were looking for a place to stay for the night.

Jaxx had been a Vampire for most of his life.

He had dark hair, and blue eyes.

He had met Mavis a couple years ago,

and they've been friends for a very long

time.

Though Jaxx was calm most of the time,

he also had a very short temper

Mavis had been a Vampire for only a

short time.

She had dark hair, and dark eyes.

Ever since she met Jaxx, she's been

afraid of being without him.

Though Mavis is shy, she does have

a temper, just like Jaxx.

And, she isn't afraid to tell Jaxx when

he's wrong, even if he doesn't want to

listen.

While walking out in the woods, it was

about to start raining.

Mavis was afraid of being out in the woods at night.

"Maybe... we should just find someplace to stay for the night..." said Mavis sounding a slightly afraid.

"Why??" Jaxx asked.

"Because, it's dark, and it's going to start raining," said Mavis.

"No, We have to keep walking." said Jaxx.

"Jaxx," said Mavis as she stopped walking, and just stood there.

When she stayed there, Jaxx kept on walking.

When he realized that Mavis wasn't following him anymore, he stopped and turned around.

As he turned around, he saw Mavis Standing with her arms crossed.

He could see that she looked slightly mad at him.

So, he walked back over to her.

"Mavis, don't do this..." said Jaxx as he stood in front of Mavis.

"Do what?" Mavis asked.

"Don't act this way," said Jaxx.

"Why not?" said Mavis.

"Because, I don't want to fight with you right now," said Jaxx while trying not to get into an argument

with her.

"We need somewhere to stay, we can't just keep walking in the dark like this," said Mavis.

"I've told you a thousand times, There is nowhere to stay!

We're in the middle of nowhere!

Don't you understand that?" Jaxx yelled.

When he yelled at her, he scared her.

Even though she was used to his temper, and they did argue sometimes, didn't mean that they

didn't hurt each other's feelings once in awhile.

When he yelled at her, she got scared, and was upset with him.

So, Mavis ran away from him.

She sometimes ran off into the woods alone.

"Mavis!" Jaxx called out.

He felt bad for yelling at her, he didn't mean to.

When she ran off, he was afraid that she would get lost or hurt, so he thought about what he was gonna do.

"She's really gonna make me go and look for her like usual."

"Mavis..." said Jaxx out loud.

So, Jaxx decided to go and look for her.

As he was walking through the woods, he called out to her.

"Mavis!

Where are you?" Jaxx kept calling.

As Jaxx stopped walking and stood there, he looked around.

As he looked around, the only thing that he saw were trees.

It was dark out, and was getting cold.

It was about to rain, and Jaxx was still looking for Mavis.

As he continued to walk, he heard someone crying.

As he stopped and listened, he realized that it was Mavis; she was crying.

So, he followed the sound.

As he followed it, he stopped at a tree, and looked up.

When he did, he saw Mavis sitting in the tree crying.

"Mavis!" Jaxx called out.

When she heard him calling out to her, she just ignored him.

She was extremely upset with him and still crying. She just wanted to be alone.

"Mavis, I know that you can hear me.

Stop ignoring me!" said Jaxx.

"Go away!

Leave me alone!" Mavis yelled.

"Mavis, I'm sorry...

I didn't mean to yell at you.

Please, come down here." Jaxx asked.

Mavis didn't want to come down, she wanted to stay there alone.

When Mavis ignored him, Jaxx knew that she

wasn't gonna listen to him.

"Alright then...

If you won't come down here.

I'll just have to come up there with you," said Jaxx as he was looking up at her.

Then Jaxx got up in the tree with her.

She was sitting on a branch, and Jaxx walked over to her.

As he walked over, he sat down next to her.

That is when he saw that she was wiping away her Tears.

She didn't want to look at him.

"Mavis, I'm sorry," said Jaxx as he looked at her.

Mavis looked away.

She didn't want to look at him.

As Mavis continued to wipe away her tears, Jaxx wondered how he could get her to stop crying.

"Please talk to me," Jaxx asked.

Mavis shook her head no.

"I know that you're tired of us walking through the woods.

I'm tired of it, too.

But it's not like we have places to go.

People don't want Vampires around, and you

know it," said Jaxx.

Mavis knew that Jaxx was right.

They didn't have places to go because they were Vampires.

Mavis didn't want to continue to not have

anywhere to go.

"We don't have to keep on walking tonight.

If you want, we can find a place to stay for the night..." said Jaxx.

Mavis wiped away her tears, and she looked at him.

"Really?" said Mavis, still sounding a little sad.

"Yeah," said Jaxx as he touched her hand.

"Ok," said Mavis as she stopped crying and looked

at him.

And then Jaxx pulled Mavis close to him, and

he held her.

Mavis clinged to him, and she wasn't mad at him

anymore.

"Come on, we should go..." said Jaxx as he let go of her.

"Ok." said Mavis as she looked at him.

They both got down from the tree, they started to walk away.

Jaxx was holding Mavis' hand as they walked.

While walking, Mavis started walking in another

direction.

And then Jaxx pulled her hand, and wondered

where she was going.

"Where are you going?" Jaxx asked as he pulled

her back.

"Earlier, I saw somewhere we could stay for the

night," said Mavis.

"Where?" said Jaxx.

"It's... this... way," said Mavis as she pointed in

the other direction.

"Are you sure we can stay there for the night?" Jaxx asked.

"Yeah," said Mavis.

"Alright...

Let's go." said Jaxx as he started to walk in the wrong direction.

"It's... this way... Jaxx," said Mavis as she pulled him back.

"I know that," said Jaxx while trying not to be

embarrassed.

"Come on," said Mavis as she smiled.

And then, they both started walking again.

Soon enough, they found the place that Mavis was talking about.

As they walked up to it, Jaxx wondered about it.

The place they were at was a ledge.

The ledge was on a wall high enough from the ground to protect them from the rain.

"You want us... to stay...here?" said Jaxx.

"Well... we don't have anywhere else to go," said

Mavis.

"Yeah, but, you could've picked someplace... just

a little better," Jaxx said as he crossed his arms.

"Do you have any better ideas of where we

should go for the night?" Mavis asked sounding

upset.

"No," said Jaxx.

"Then can we stay here please?" Mavis asked.

"Fine," said Jaxx sounding less than happy about having to stay there.

"Thank you," said Mavis, sounding happy, and smiling.

"Yeah, but we're only staying for the night.

And that's it...

In the morning we're leaving,

OK?" said Jaxx.

"Yeah, I know," said Mavis as she smiled.

So, then they both walked underneath the ledge.

As they stood there, it started to get really dark, then started to rain.

"I told you it was gonna rain." said Mavis as she looked at him.

"Yeah, I guess you were right...

I should've listened." said Jaxx admitting that he was wrong.

Later,

Mavis and Jaxx were sitting on the ground.

Mavis was sitting by the edge, and Jaxx was a little farther away.

As Mavis was sitting by the corner, she was

watching the rain.

She was very tired from walking all day.

She was watching the rain, and falling asleep.

As she fell asleep, it continued to rain.

And Jaxx, who was sitting next to her, looked over at her, and noticed she was asleep.

He smiled because he knew that she wasn't mad at him anymore.

As he looked away, he stared at the rain.

Then, Jaxx began to think about everything.

He was thinking about their life.

They didn't have a safe place to go or stay.

They were always running away from somewhere,

and were always hiding.

They were both tired of being without everything.

Jaxx didn't want to have the kind of life that they were living, and he didn't want Mavis to have that life either.

He wanted Mavis to have the life that she wanted.

Jaxx really felt bad because he was the one who was supposed to protect her and keep her safe.

He wanted there to be more to their life than just running away, and hiding all the time.

He was trying to figure out what to do.

As Jaxx looked over at Mavis, he saw her shaking while she was asleep.

She was freezing because it was cold from the rain.

When he saw her freezing, he moved closer to her.

As he was next to her, he put his arms around her, holding her tight.

When he held onto her, she woke up, and saw that he was holding onto her.

"What are you doing?" Mavis asked sounding very

tired.

"Holding you," said Jaxx as he held her a little tighter.

"Why?" Mavis asked.

"Because, you were shaking...

And, I don't want you to freeze," said Jaxx.

"You don't have to worry about me freezing.

I'm used to it," said Mavis.

"I still don't want you to freeze." said Jaxx as he was still holding onto her.

"Ok," said Mavis as she was falling back asleep.

As Jaxx held onto Mavis, she had stopped shaking because he was keeping her warm.

While he held her, he could see that she had fallen asleep.

And so, he tried to fall asleep, too.

After a while.

Jaxx fell asleep holding onto Mavis.

The next morning, it had stopped raining.

Mavis was still asleep, but while she slept, Jaxx stayed up, watching her.

As he looked at Mavis, he let her sleep,

And then got up.

As he walked out from underneath the ledge, he looked back at Mavis.

He looked at her, making sure that she'd be safe.

He then looked away as he smiled.

Jaxx walked away from the ledge, leaving Mavis

by herself.

He wasn't leaving her, he just went to look around for a bit.

As he was walking around the woods, he saw something in the distance, He wanted to take a closer look, and as he started walking, he realized that far away, there was a town.

When he saw the town from the woods, he was happy because now he and Mavis could have a safe place to stay for awhile instead of staying outside all the time.
