9 Chapter Nine

The court section was over. Alice had been sentenced to life imprisonment with labour. She was sent to a very remote island with tight security and unfriendly inmates. It was reserved for the worst and Alice had definitely earned that barge. The whole court room was in uproar, the press had a field day and Ellie got new clients. Silvia hoped Ellie was feeling alright.

Outside the courthouse Stan and Silvia met Ellie. She seemed happier and lighter as if an enormous burden had been removed from her shoulder. She greeted Silvia as if they had known themselves forever. She also greeted Stan with the same enthusiasm. Her work here was done and she was moving back to her city. Silvia wished she could stay but knew it was impossible. Ellie already had a life there and Silvia wouldn't want her to give it up on account of her. Ellie had managed to pick up her life despite her rough start and through struggle and hard work made a better life for herself, a life she was proud of and for that reason she so was proud of her.

Ellie promised to keep in touch and definitely make it to their wedding no matter where she may be. In fact as soon as she gets the date, she was going to clear an entire week for them.

Later that day, they paid a visit to the hospital, the three of them to see Silvia's dad. He was much better now and was able to move around with aid. He would have been discharged but the hospital decided to keep him for few more days. They usually brought him treats, books and so many other things. The man was hurt when he heard his ex-wife's confession and cried uncontrollably. It was actually the first time Silvia had seen her father cry. He apologized for not telling her the truth when he found out that Alice had a hand in all these. She had threatened to kill Silvia and he knew how wicked she could be sometimes but he never could imagine this extent.

"So when is the wedding?" Mr. Chamel asked

"Dad, we are waiting for you to get better so you can walk me down the aisle and give me your blessings"

"You'll always have my blessings, all of you but you needn't wait for me before you get married"

"Her day wouldn't be complete if you weren't there and I want her to be happy" Stan said

"I always knew you are a good man" Mr. Chamel said to him patting his hand gently and turned to Ellie

"When you find a man that's worthy of you don't hesitate to invite him home"

"No problem dad I'll bring him for inspection and evaluation" Ellie said and everyone laughed.

Looking around everyone was content one way or the other. They were able to forget the pains of the past and build a joyful future. The pain of the past might not be totally forgotten but the good thing is that when they look back it would be less painful because in that past they emerged victorious and are now building a better future...
