17 The woman

"Do you really have to go?"

Juan nodded with a swollen face, "I have my family waiting back for me in Mexico. I just came to see you and Wes."

"How are you going to drive if your eyes are almost swollen shut?"

"I'll manage."

It saddens me to know that he only stayed for a couple of days and had to leave. I wish we could go back to those days when he was often here with us, but I understand that he has a family to take care of.

Juan put his hand on my shoulder, "Please be incredibly careful and take diligent care of Wes for me. I know he is a grown man and a powerful witch, but that does not mean he is invincible. The full moon is going to be here in a few days, so please don't do anything that you will regret. Also, if you need anything, do not hesitate to give me a call little brother."

I gave him a thumbs up and cracked a smile, "You can count on me!"

"Now, if you would excuse me, I have one more thing to talk to Wes about."

"I'm glad the pervert is finally leaving, the nerve of that guy!"

I turned to see Bree standing behind me, "Whatever! You know you came to say goodbye to him! Deep down inside you know that you will miss him!" I said teasing her.

"The only thing that I am going to miss is not being able to beat him again!"

"Come on, help me put his bags behind his truck."

"Why didn't you say that sooner?! Is that all that is left so he can finally leave?"

"You don't have to be mean to him."

While we were talking a car pulled up into Wes's front yard and I went over to see who it was. The passenger side opened the car door, and a girl with long red curly hair in a white dress came out and just stood there with her right hand up getting ready to call us over.

"Are you okay?" I asked while I looked at her facial expression, "You seem to be in trouble."

"Is the wizard here? It is especially important that I speak with him." By this time, she had tears rolling down her face.

I placed the bags down and invited her in, "Please come in! Have a seat. Bree, can you bring her some water? I will go and get Wes."

"Thank you! Please hurry! It's an emergency."

I went to the back room where Wes keeps his supplies and works, "Sorry to interrupt both of your farewells but we have a lady in the living room teared eye wanting to talk to you."

Both Juan and Wes looked at each other while exiting the room and I followed close behind.

Wes approached the woman, "What can I help you with?"

The red-haired woman began to breakdown even more, "It's my mother! She is extremely sick and on her deathbed. The doctors say that she will not make it pass this week. There is a cure for her illness, but it is expensive, and we do not have the funds for it. She has asked me to come and find you because you might be the only one who can save her right now with our financial issues. Please, I will do anything for you if you are able to save her!"

Wes tried to comfort her, "I will do everything in my power to save her. Give me about two days to get some stuff together and I will head to your home. Please write down your address so when I have gathered my supplies, I can come find you."

The woman jumped up with joy, "Thank you! Thank you! I just can't thank you enough."

"Please don't thank me yet, I haven't done anything." With that Wes escorted her back to her car.

"Are you going to need my help?" Juan asked Wes.

"Nah., I have Paul and Bryanna here to help me."

Bryanna looked at me, "Wait?! Why do I have to help?"

I smiled and told her, "I guess that this is the beginning of your training."

"But I never gave you a response!"

"You will be fine!" I told her jokingly. I saw that she had applied makeup again to her cheek. I wonder if she has more bruises around her body that she is trying to hide.

"What's wrong?" She tells me.

"Oh, nothing!" I said nervously.

"Well then why were you just staring at me?"

"What?! I can't stare at you?!" And I walked off to start loading Juan's luggage into his truck.

"Okay, if you are sure that you will be fine and you will not need my help. I will be taking my leave. I want to make it home by nightfall." Juan turned to look at me, "Remember what we talked about."

I nodded and he jumped in his truck.

"Take care you guys. I will try and visit more often." With that, he drove off playing his loud music.

"What kind of potion are you going to teach me this time?" I asked Wes.

"I don't know yet, but I should head over to that woman's house to see what illness she has in order to make the proper cure. You two want to wait here or tag along."

Bree nodded her head and told Wes, "We are coming with you."

"The good thing is, that woman's house isn't far from here. It's just around the corner." Wes pointed.

When we got there, the red-haired woman was surprised to see us.

"Do you come up with the cure that fast?" She asked.

"No" replied Wes, "You don't mind if we can come in and have a look at your mother? Don't worry about these two kids here. They are my apprentices and still in training."

"You two kids are much braver than I will ever be. I don't think that I could ever do what you can."

"Apprentices! Right!" Bryanna laughed and said nervously.

"I will show you to mothers' room."

She led us to the opposite side of her home and knocked on the door before entering, "Mother, the wizards are here."

"Wizards? I only know of one wizard. I didn't know that there were more."

"It's the same guy, he has taken some kids under his wings, and are training to become wizards themselves."

"Brave souls." said the elderly woman who lay in bed barely moving.

The daughter was right, she didn't look as if she had much time left.

Wes turned around and told us, "You two wait here by the doorway in case I have to perform an exorcism."

"Gotcha!" I replied.

"Am I going to see an actual demon?!" Bree asked me.

"I don't know, but we might as well be prepared just in case it does go down."

I heard Bree swallowing hard.

"Don't worry, Wes and I will protect you."

Bree nodded again and asked, "Can demons get you sick?"

"Yup, demons are capable of many things."

After a while, Wes finished talking with the mother and her daughter escorted us out of her home.

"I will be back with an antidote so don't you worry," Wes told the daughter.

We went back to his house.

"I should have some of the herbs to make the potion at the house. I will be right back."

"Where are you going?" I asked Wes.

"Ryan's Co. I'll be back in a little while."

"Do you need me to get anything ready while I wait for you to come back?"

Wes shook his head, "That won't be necessary" and drove off.

"This is so cool! I will get to see your godfather in action! My heart was racing because I thought that I was going to see a demon for the first time."

"Just stick around, and you will get many chances to see one. You might even get lucky and have one knock you around for fun."

"How will that be fun?!"

"Well, not for you, but for the demon. You will just get experience and learn to run faster while trying not to get your ass handed to you by a possessed little girl."

"What are you talking about?!"

"What?! Who? Me?" I pointed at myself, "Oh nothing, I am just talking to myself."

"Weirdo."

I chuckled and said, "You will find out in time when it happens to you."

"What will happen to me?! Hey! Come back and stop ignoring me!"

"Don't you have some notes that you should be copying?"

"You're right! I completely forgot about that! Thanks for reminding me."
