3 Acceptance

Daiyu opened the door wondering who would have come to visit so early in the morning. She found Miss Alixa standing at the door. Miss Alixa was a famous, stern-faced woman who was ranked 5th in the most powerful mages list. Why would someone like her grace her home?

"May I come in?" The woman spoke, cutting short Daiyu's train of thought and not waiting for the other woman to answer, walked into the house without a second of hesitation.

"Of course. Please come in, come in" Daiyu stammer flustered by this woman's superior demeanour. She rushed to close the front door and catch up with the tall woman quick pace before guiding her into the visitor's room forgetting to close the door.

"Is there anything that I can get for you? Coffee water or maybe I can entice you with a cup of jasmine tea" Daiyu stammered nervously,

"I do not have time for frivolities. I am here on official business not to sit and talk about the weather" Miss Alixa said coldly "I am here to talk about your daughters-"

"I only have one daughter," Huilang's stepmother interrupted making the woman's frown deepen.

"Your daughters, Huilang and Liling have been accepted into Astiadore School for Gifted Individuals," Miss Alixia continued icily, ignoring Dia Yu's remark completely

" How can it that be!" Daiyu exclaimed feigning innocence the child has not manifested any magical abilities at all not to talk of the fact that she is almost 19 there must be some mistake." Huiliang's stepmother was agitated now she couldn't let that bastard child go to that school or she would steal the spotlight form her own child. There was something about that girl that scared her but she couldn't figure it out.

'I would have killed that bastard child with her mother all those years ago if only her mother hadn't put that barrier spell up.' she was burning with hatred now but knew she couldn't show it in front of Miss Alixa.

"There has been no such mistake," Miss Alixa retorted "She has been accepted on scholarship that is founded by his Royal Highness. As you might know, only extremely precocious and astute children can get the opportunity. Along with his Highness's youngest son, two remaining spaces are remaining and both of which both your daughters have been selected to be part of this group and fill those spaces."

Upon hearing this Daiyu was lost for words and just sat there with her mouth open

"Since you've heard everything, you may as well come inside," Miss Alixa said, glancing at the door.

With a wave of her hand, the door swung open and Daiyu was surprised to see her daughter and stepdaughter standing in the doorway, starry-eyed and excited.

"You will leave for The Valley of Magic in a week by that time I expect you to have your suitcases packed the items on the list, other things such as uniform will be provided by the school, these are your timetables," a white envelope with a golden wax stamp appeared in each of the girl's hands "you will be taking lessons that they teach in standard schools such as arithmetic and literature as they are also important. In those envelopes are also your certificates of acceptance." She turned to face Daiyu who was still in a daze," this is a letter from the headmistress for you to keep and a letter that you must sign giving the school permission to be the official guardians of your girls for the duration of the time that they attend the school."

Just like before three pieces of paper and appeared in front of Huilang's stepmother. Daiyu reached out and picked up the pen scribbling her signature on Meiying's letter. As she finished, the paper caught fire and disappeared. Not a spec of ash was left and the table was left unsigned. Daiyu's hand hovered over Huilang's letter for a second, but she did not want to look bad in front of the stern older woman so she reluctantly signing the letter and just like the other the letter was incinerated. Daiyu and the girls stared as the last bit of the letter disappeared. When they looked up Miss Alixia was gone.

Still overwhelmed by the event that had just unfolded, Diayu waved her hand signalling for the girls to leave.
