59 XIX. Finally, Boss Fight

Before I could hear the metallic humming of death, I seeked cover behind the rows of air conditioner exhaust. And then it happened, the thundering clicks and clacks like office keyboards during peak hours, my spine felt the erratic fingertips pounding on my back. It was enough to freeze my foot and sweat my ass.

The jet circled around trying to find an advantageous spot to shoot me dead. I however did not still like a duck, I slid below the small space between the exhaust and the ground. Granted the area was hot but compared to earlier, it was better than the convection from the bullets. Now it was like a fly circling around a covered food on the table.

I patiently waited for it to stop, took both my guns out and searched the order in the chaos. When the firing stopped I looked out and fired my guns. I did not fire aimlessly, I made it a point to shoot either the cockpit and wings. And when visible, the rear thrusters.

My bullets seemed ineffective around the jet. As my forearms began to constrict I took it as a sign to ease off the trigger and change directions. I tried to move beneath it, but it quickly lowered its chin and started blasting at me. The pilot seemed to know that his objective was to make sure I don't get close to it and also to kill me, obviously.

I jumped around like a frog skipping lilly pads staying out of sight from the jet.

"I should really deal with this thing before the get-away plane arrives." I told myself aloud.

Our game of bullet tag began to shift our attitudes from tense to irritated as I could really wish that the pilot would get sloppy and present me with an opportunity to kill him. And I assume the other guy thinks so too. And then I saw it. I saw the sloppiness seep in as well as a confirmation to one of my thoughts.

This plane is the only plane the idiot could call upon. There's no get-away plane. I could clearly say that because his movements transmit the fact that he can't move away or he'll risk exposing the duke who's hiding behind him.

With that information clear, I hid myself. Although there's only a few countable covers that are still intact. I slid behind a decent one I found. Then made my next move, merge my guns into rifle mode. Within a blink of an eye, in a very small window of time between the jet's machine guns to reload, I popped out and sniped the pilot.

The high compressed sound of the muzzled along with the decent kick back was enough to kill the pilot.

But I missed. By a hairlined I missed his head or chest, rather I hit him on the side of his ribs.

My legs moved onto the next cover, thinking the pilot would be rage fueled in squeezing the trigger. But he didn't. Instead the jet wobbled around in the air, the pilot wrestled with the now untamed bird I too found it difficult to jump in.

With the jet occasionally dipping and scrapping the cement on the ground. I avoided it like a dog being sprinkled for bath. As the sparks and debris splatter I couldn't help but again seek cover from the now destroyed air condition exhaust from earlier.

On that point it was clear that the pilot would die of blood loss. The jet continued until the pilot breathed his last. The jet then rumbled and tumbled until it crashed behind me. Boom. the deafening explosion behind me and the angry scowl geared towards Rainek painted danger for the man.

I raised my rifle at him. I expected him to hold up his hand but instead, with full might he dashed at me and swatted my guns away. They landed heavily down before separating.

Then he delivered a jab to my nose. I stepped back before retaliating with a punch. Both of us began to come after each other. He was strong as the Ice Queen but not as fast, which was to be honest my only disadvantage with the former.

Rainek held the edge on strength but I held the one on speed. Each of his licks are either blocked or parried, mine went in but is pretty much shrugged off. There were moments that he could dodge me advances, and times where I would just clench my jaws powering through the pain.

"You asked earlier why I did it. It seems that you've earned the right to hear it." The disgraced duke taunted me as he threw another punch.

I shielded with my forearm. He kept pushing his fist in and I did not budge.

"You know what, I don't think I need to hear it anyway." I replied as I slid my forearm aside then following up with an elbow to the jaw.

Rainek moved his jaw around. He wiped off the fluids off his lips and grinned.

He stepped a little bit closer, I did likewise. Then we danced again. The two of us exchanged blows like boxers. Not the professional type of boxing. Although there was grace in our exchange it was overwhelmed by intensity. My speed and his strength, it was like watching a bear fight a lone wolf.

As Rainek's ruffian fist rained consecutively I held my hand up in full defense. Now I was like a roof on a hailstorm. As my forearms hurt I endured, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. I attempted to step back which proved to be a fatal mistake as he punched me in the side.

It became an opening for him to shove his hand around my neck. Rainek then lifted me up and swung me across like a ragdoll. As my back landed with a sharp pain and a heavy thud I soon realized that Kyotta's people really are stronger than humans.

Rainek stood there for a moment until he looked around and grabbed something off the floor. My face turned downcast at the sight of a hulking figure with cat ears. Who was I might add is now dragging a long metal pipe.

It was no question what I did next, I slithered away from the approaching terror like a snake. With his monstrous strength and the fact that he's walking towards me really made my choice to run away a very reasonable one. But a quick scratch and discomfort made me stop. As my nape felt a dull cold tap, I immediately knew what it was.

"You see, the reason why I had to kill my brother and sister-in-law is because of what they're doing with Kyatto and its people. Are they bad rulers? I don't so but-"

Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang

Four loud shots cut off the duke's speech as I held out the smoking gun. Rainek stood there frozen as he slowly knelt down. He was filled with disbelief as he felt cold.

"Sorry could you repeat that, I wasn't listening." I told him as I got up and holstered my gun.

I didn't kill him. Contractually speaking, I can't so I'd have to settle with temporary maiming. But seeing the anger and frustration burn between his eyebrows was enough to give me the satisfaction I needed.

"Rover you still there?"

I recognized Celestine's voice right away.

"Yeah and so is the duke."
