11 Chapter 11: Demons

Davis's battle cry sent shivers down Max's spine, He knew first hand just how strong Davis was.

"Max looks at me, i promise i won't hurt you" Davis's voice sounded genuine, and so Max turned around to look at him.

As soon as Davis's eyes met Max's he couldn't move. It was as if something was holding him in place. It was exactly what happened during their little brawl back down in the hallway.

Davis's eyes, They didn't look normal, His eyes were pitch black there was no white left in his eyes. Max was scared of them.

All of a sudden Davis, out of nowhere came bolting towards Max. Within a second he had covered the distance between them. Max could already feel Davis's fist smashing into his stomach.

A loud BOOM sound was heard, Max was unscathed.

Davis had instead hit the ground next to max.The impact had caused dust to rise.

Max's eardrums wouldn't stop ringing.

After a while the dust had settled, Davis stood next to Max. Max immediately looked at where Davis's fist had landed, only to be greeted by a massive crack in the field, the crack extended past the 20-meter mark. It was big enough for a person to easily fit inside.

Max was left awestruck, but at the same time, he was scared. Just what drug was Davis using that made him so strong he wondered.

Davis's eyes had returned to normal. He proceeded to sit down on the ground and signalled Max to sit next to him.

Max although hesitant decided it would be best to comply and listen to what Davis had to say.

"You believe in God?" Davis asked. His out-of-context question surprised Max

"Uh, um, I don't know... I used to believe but after everything that happened, I don't know. I prayed so many times, yet nothing happened" Max responded he sounded lost and confused

"Well, Demons certainly do exist"

"Yeah, Humans. Heartless demons" Max voiced his inner thoughts

"No you idiot, I'm talking about actual demons, the ones that bite your toes and steal your souls" Davis revealed

Again, Max was left dumbfounded. He had never thought he would hear those words coming out of Davis's mouth. Max unconciously left his mouth wide open in shock.

"Yeah, that's CROSS's secret weapon, demons, 11 Years ago, when CROSS was established, it wasn't established because we had a secret blue serum. But rather because of the fact that the head general managed to capture a demon"

"We've been using that demon to make deals ever since" Davis responded

"S-so god exists as well?" Max was honestly quite mind-boggled by Davis's new revelation

"Dunno, but demons exist"

"If de-demons exist that means god should exist as well" Max exclaimed

"But God won't save us, has he helped you? Has he helped any of us so far? The answer is NO" Davis asserted.

This sent Max into a state of mental turmoil. He believed in God but God had done nothing for him. Davis was, in a way, right.

"We plan on making a deal with the demon, in return, we'll ask for the death of B-16"

"But could B-16 really be killed B-16 is an A.I can't he make copies of himself?" Max asked without hesitation

"Kid, we aren't making a deal with a human, we're talking about a creature not from this realm all together, the demon granted me these powers that i showed you." Davis was adamant.

Max didn't know how to respond. Demons were no laughing matter and here Davis was casually talking about making deals with them.

"Listen, Max, if we don't do this EVERYONE. EVERYONE YOU CARE FOR WILL DIE. B-16 Has no reason to keep us alive"

"Why do you even need me?" Max asked it was odd how Davis was so stuck up on having Max on board

"Listen we have 14 people, theres 15 ships, the deal is still a work in progress but we don't have enough time"

"even if we send one person to each ship we'd still be short" Davis explained

"God know how many people they have onboard"

Davis's point was valid

"Would one person really be able to beat a ship filled with blues?" Max questioned

Davis stood up and took a deep *sigh* "We just need to head to the energy core compartment of the ship, and blow it up that's it."

"THAT WOULD KILL US" Max expressed his dissatisfaction with Davis's plan in the form of a loud yell

"Wrong, if you mess up, then it would follow the plan and you won't die. Davis said, defending his plan

"Davis, we can't just pop out of the ship there would be people chasing us, and i admit the demon powers do make you stronger but i don't think taking on an entire ship is possible." Max was hellbent on proving Davis wrong.

"We have teleporters on board our ship you know?" Davis responded

"I thought we weren't technologically advanced enough to make them" Max was quite shocked. HUE had told him that things such as teleporters were impossible for CROSS to make

"Well, we are. But we're still in the testing phase, but our ship has two, they aren't made by us they were made by B-16"

The fact that they had teleporters on board the ship did ease Max up a bit.

"Listen, Max, nothing is perfect. We're up against an A.I thats GENERATIONS ahead of us. Risk is obviously going to be involved." Davis said trying to comfort Max

"Well, im not doing it. If demons exist then so does God. And if God exists then heaven does too. Ill die and go to heaven. Making a deal with a demon is not something i can do. Sorry" Max still had a bit of faith left. And he was going to believe in that.

"What happens next? Max theres so many religions, what if you get reincarnated instead? You'll lose your family" Davis sounded as if he had gotten personal, his tone turned cold.

"Max, why die when you can live. Doesn't God say that you should protect others?"

Davis's words had made max feel conflicted. He truly didn't know what to do anymore. What if he really did get reincarnated without his family.

He wouldn't have his memories, so wouldn't that be like death?

"Max it's your call. I swear once we destroy the ships we'll have 3 more years to think about what we should do with PRIMA and B-16" Davis was adamant on persuading Max and by the looks of it was it was working.

"Look, i'll let you leave whenever you want. You won't be a prisoner anymore you have my word, Max"

"Then i want to go home." Max responded

Davis, who now felt defeated let out a long and exaggerated *sigh* while he rubbed his temples and shaked his head in disbelief

"Fine, im a man of my word. You can leave"

Max had made up his mind. He was going to protect his life, and his family. He wasn't going to let someone else play his life.

"I said, i want to go home, Davis. You said that the only way im going home was by giving CROSS what they wanted. That is exactly what i'll do." Max clenched his fist and said resolutely.

Hearing Max's words Davis broke into a psychotic laugher

"I always knew you had it in ya kid. Welcome to CROSS" Davis cried out, while extending his hand forward to shake Max's.
