Chapter 377 [Arius Nova] (4)

The soldiers watched in terror as their leader now lay inert on the ground as the grenade fell to the ground.

"Not bad" - Cloud muttered, only to be surrounded by a small explosion.

The soldiers were surprised to see this, though they quickly reacted. It was obvious that their leader had managed to pull the pin off the grenade before it fell and they were not to waste this opportunity.

"Fire!" - [Sapphire] exclaimed a soldier as the bullets flew back in Cloud's direction.

[Sapphire] watched this with concern and was ready to be able to jump in to help, after all, she was aware that a fiery blast was extremely damaging, but she relaxed when she felt how her leader was okay.

The hallway began to shake from the blast wave as fragments of the ceiling and walls continued to fall.

"Reload!" - The soldier exclaimed as they prepared to initiate a new attack, but paused so they could see its outcome. They were unsure of the damage done, and if it weren't for the fact that they had limited resources, they would have reopened fire on the silver monster - "Hold position!"

The few remaining soldiers tensed up and carefully watched their opponent's movements. They were waiting for the moment when the smokescreen would disappear so they could see the result of their attack.

"I have to admit that hurt like hell" - Cloud grunted as the smoke disappeared, showing that his body now had parts of his body shredded.

The soldiers felt something catch in their throats as they saw such a deplorable state of the miniature beast, only to widen their eyes in terror as they saw the wounds begin to regenerate at great speed.

"No" - muttered one of the soldiers as he bit his lip in an attempt to resist the urge to scream.

[Sapphire] watched her leader's condition with fury, only to calm down when she noticed how her master was as if nothing was wrong.

"I applaud your leader's devotion, but I repudiate his stupidity" - said Cloud as he looked at the soldiers - "Perhaps if they had bombarded me with everything they had, they could have killed me, or at least left me in a serious state".

The soldiers stood in silence as they watched as the serious wounds, were now nothing more than superficial wounds.

"But your desire to survive the wrath of [Sapphire], caused you to miss your best chance" - smiled Cloud as he slowly advanced against the soldiers. This was not done to instill more fear in them, but to regenerate as quickly as possible, after all, the wounds were much more severe than they looked.

Cloud was using up much of his mana in order to increase his regenerative factor, in other words, his energy was slowly being drained.

"Now, this is the part where they die fighting like heroes, or run away like the worms they are" - cloud said while trying to resist the pain he felt all over his body.

Superhuman resistances or not, the damage caused by an explosion was lethal even for world level 2 creatures. The dragon from [Gate: Jsdf], was more than enough proof to prove these words.

The soldiers didn't even respond, they ran off as fast as they could in the direction of the gate behind them.

Cloud watched this with amusement, but his smile quickly disappeared as he pulled the potion from his inventory and took it without a second thought.

After a few seconds, he felt the wounds disappear completely, though his mana was still at half capacity.

[Are you alright, my lord?] - [Sapphire] asked while looking at her leader.

Cloud gave her a glance and noticed how an imaginary tail appeared behind the female [Aragami] - "She's like a puppy."

[My lord?] - [Sapphire] asked in surprise as she received no response from her leader.

"Oh, sorry, I was thinking some things" - replied Cloud as he shook his head "And answering your question, I'm fine."

Again, Cloud was fascinated by the potion he had purchased, though he quickly decided to put it aside and focus on what was important - "We're here."

Cloud slowly walked towards the door as he smelled the scent of Johannes behind it. With a huge toothy grin, he entered without concern, only for the sound of a hail of bullets to echo through the place.

"Don't you people learn?" - Cloud asked with a scowl, only this time, he did nothing to protect himself because [Sapphire] had been responsible for doing so.

[I've had enough of your insolence towards my lord] - growled [Sapphire] as an icy aura invaded the laboratory.

The soldiers and scientists, just watched the two monsters in terror as they felt their hearts were about to explode.

Cloud was about to say something, but his expression changed when he felt a strange aura in the middle of the place. He slowly turned his gaze in that direction and opened his eyes in surprise as he saw how a strange [Aragami] was inside a transparent dome.

[My lord, that thing is dangerous] - [Sapphire] muttered as she looked at the dome seriously. Her instincts were telling her that it was better to end the life of that beast as soon as possible, but at the same time, these instincts were telling her to stay away.

Cloud didn't answer her, he just watched the man standing next to the dome while the soldiers still had him in their sights.

"I know, I can feel it" - Cloud replied calmly as he frowned - "But for now it's not necessary to do anything."

Cloud continued to move forward as the scientists and soldiers shivered from the cold produced by [Sapphire's] icy aura - "It's good to see you again, Johannes."

"Same here, [Calamity]" - Johannes growled as he glared coldly at the silver dragon - "Or would you rather I say your real name?"

"OH? Please enlighten me" - replied Cloud with a huge smile because he was aware that his former leader knew about his new identity, after all, everyone present was going to die before long.

"Cloud Strife" - Johannes said while squinting his eyes - "The hope of mankind, the strongest [God Eater], the new Adam!"

"!" - those present widened their eyes in surprise and terror because they never thought things were so complex, although this explained some details about the blond's disappearance.

Cloud smiled even wider when he heard this, but his expression changed slightly when he heard the sound of an alarm in the room.

Johannes' expression had also changed, but unlike Cloud, his expression was much worse. He understood the reason for this alarm, so without caring about the consequences, he turned around and looked at the dome with an expression of utter devastation - "No! Impossible! Everything should be in perfect condition!"

Cloud said nothing, but the scientists could only watch this with despair because their last hope for survival was that the project would be successfully completed.

"No!" - Johannes exclaimed as he typed as fast as he could to try to fix the problem.

The blond scientist with his two companions, could only watch this with concern as they shook their heads.

"Who was responsible!" - Johannes roared as it was obvious that this was no accident, but something premeditated.

The scientists looked at each other before shaking their heads.

Johannes roared angrily as he watched the liquid inside the dome begin to bubble.

Cloud frowned as he watched as parts of the glass covering the specimen, began to slowly crack, though he said nothing to warn Johannes.

The scientists began to scream when they saw this, but Johannes decided to ignore them and concentrate on his baby.

The crystal was getting more and more broken, proving that it was only a matter of time before it shattered completely.

Cloud gave [Sapphire] a look to take flight. The room was large enough for the two of them to levitate just enough to get out of harm's way.

Johannes was in a state of complete madness, but after hearing the sound of glass shattering, he understood what had happened.

The liquid see inside the dome had shot out as the specimen fell on him.

"Johannes!" - One of the scientists exclaimed, only to scream in pain as the green liquid fell on him.

Johannes began to roar in fury and pain as he felt his body begin to burn - "Ah!"

Cloud watched this with surprise, especially as he noticed how from the specimen, some sort of tentacles began to emerge from its red skin.

The scientists upon seeing this, quickly ran towards the entrance because they were aware of the severity of coming into contact with the green liquid, after all, this had been produced thanks to the nuclei of at least 10 different species of [Aragami].

"Argh!" - Johannes' cries of pain echoed through the place as the specimen began to encircle his body. The former leader of [Fenrir: Far East] could feel his body being slowly consumed, as if the specimen's skin was a huge mouth that was chewing on his limbs.
