392 Chapter 376 [Arius Nova] (3)

"No need to fight!" - exclaimed the leader of the group as he glared at the miniature dragon - "Don't make me laugh, beast! Can't you even remember all the lives you ended while calmly walking to this place!"

"I wouldn't have done anything to them if they hadn't attacked me, human" - Cloud replied with a frown as the soldiers felt the temperature start to rise steadily - "In fact, I didn't initiate any attacks outside of infiltrating the facility."

The soldiers were silent as they knew that they had been the first to attack, after all, Cloud and [Sapphire] had passed through the first sector without attacking anyone.

"That may be true, but you can't blame us, not when we have one of humanity's greatest enemies" - replied the leader with disdain.

"I recommend you not to keep provoking me, human" - Cloud said neutrally as he felt he was starting to lose his patience. As a dragon, he had acquired enormous pride, so feeling that he was constantly being trampled on was making his fury grow steadily.

"Sir, I don't think it's a good idea to enrage [Calamity]!" - One soldier said in terror. The others shared this view, but said nothing because they didn't want to get in trouble with their leader.

"Keep quiet, soldier" - growled the leader as he looked at his subordinates, only to turn his attention back to the humanoid dragon - "Now you'd better stand down while you still have your life."

Cloud's expression was becoming more and more neutral as he felt his draconic instincts begin to awaken. A desire to fight strong enemies, disdain against inferior creatures, and an enormous pride, began to awaken within him.

"I don't think you understand who is at the top of the food chain" - said Cloud as he disappeared and reappeared in front of the soldier and ripped off his head with utmost ease, only to notice how the other soldiers began to tremble with their weapons still pointed at the silver beast - "You'd better lower your weapons and retreat while you still can."

"S-Sorry, but we can't do that" - replied one soldier while biting his lip, after all, Johannes was holding their families hostage. The former leader of [Fenrir: Far East], was aware that his control over the military part of his facility, was not loyal to him, so he took half of them and threatened him with their families, he ordered Daigo to create a special poison that could only be controlled by the antidote in his hands.

"I understand your situation and I admire your conviction" - Cloud replied calmly, only for the soldiers to all fall to the ground inert - "But that doesn't change the fact that you are in my way, though I promise you that I will at least save your families."

It was hypocritical of him to say these words, but he honestly didn't care what others thought of him. Right now, Cloud had an attitude that indicated that from now on he would be driven by his desires and ambitions. He would still maintain a morality, but he would not let that same morality shackle him, if he had to kill, he would kill, if he had to use unethical methods, then he would use them if it would achieve his goal.

"After all, I never thought to consider myself a hero" - Cloud muttered as he incinerated the corpses of the soldiers and continued on his way.

[Sapphire] was silent as she listened to her leader's monologue, only to shake her head, after all, she didn't understand what he was trying to say. Hero? Conviction? She was indeed confused, but continued to follow her leader as she thought about those words.

The duo continued to move forward in silence, only to notice how a strong smell of blood began to pervade the place.

[Blood?] - [Sapphire] asked in surprise - "[Why is there human blood in this place?]

"The reason is obvious" - Cloud replied neutrally as a new wave of bullets headed in their direction - "Seriously, this is getting annoying."

Cloud quickly covered his claw with a heavy layer of rocks and stopped the projectiles coming in his direction. He was starting to lose patience with so many attacks they had received, although this was obvious seeing as they invaded a secret compound.

"Reload and fire!" - Roared the leader of the group seeing how their attack had been ineffective.

"Really? I mean, you saw that your attacks have no effect at all and you guys keep repeating the same pattern?" - Cloud asked as he raised an eyebrow, only to growl in irritation as he blocked a new wave of bullets - "Ok, enough of the gentle dragon lord."

The silver monster's eyes sharpened as he began to run in the direction of his prey. With his human transformation deactivated, he was demonstrating all the speed he had managed to achieve thanks to his new identity.

The screams of the soldiers began to become more and more frequent as Cloud charged forward tearing through every human in front of him.

"Second squad, I want you to fall back and give support!" - roared the leader as he saw how his front line was being slaughtered - "Third squad, I want you to bring in the specialized containment shields!"

"Hai!" - Squadron exclaimed as Cloud continued to tear his comrades apart.

"Do they really think they can mobilize that many personnel in such a confined space?" - Cloud asked disdainfully.

The soldiers' eyes widened in surprise because for the first time in all this time, they managed to hear their opponent's voice, and they honestly wished they hadn't heard it, after all, an [Aragami] with the power of speech, was more dangerous than a normal [Aragami].

Cloud continued to tear the soldiers apart as he felt what little empathy he had had for them, disappear with each corpse he left in his wake.

"Why do I keep clinging to what little humanity I have left?" - Cloud asked himself as he frowned, only to shake his head because this wasn't the time to think of answers for his philosophical questions. He would have all the time in the world after he got to where Johannes was and figured out what the fuck was going on, more so knowing that Shio's faint presence had disappeared in this place.

The soldiers could feel their morale dropping with every passing second. [Calamity] was getting closer and closer and their attacks were useless against him.

Cloud slowly advanced in the direction of the few remaining soldiers, as if he was enjoying the terrified expression of the humans in front of him.

"Fuck it!" - One of the soldiers exclaimed as he ran towards where the scientists were. Quickly, more soldiers followed suit, leaving the leader and a few soldiers, completely alone next to their monstrous opponent.

Cloud watched this with amusement as he let out a loud laugh. It was obvious that he understood that this would happen sooner or later, after all, this was a losing battle, one that would end with the death of all the soldiers that were in place.

The leader of the group could only let out a sigh as he felt his body lose its strength, he slowly observed the beast in front of him and let out a laugh - "I guess this has to amuse you."

"Oh, could you please specify more?" - Cloud asked as he appeared in front of the man.

"Don't play innocent, I'm referring to the fact of seeing how my soldiers run with their tails between their legs, how they abandon us to our fate" - replied the leader with disdain - "An unpleasant humor, although it's kind of obvious seeing the abomination to whom it belongs"

"It's impolite to generalize, but I'm not going to lie, I did find it amusing" - Cloud replied with a huge toothy grin - "But can you blame them? Wanting to continue to exist is an instinct we all have, even the [Aragami]"

"A pity, because I think you guys shouldn't exist" - replied the soldier coldly as he pulled out a grenade - "And now I'm going to fix that detail."

The soldier had decided to sacrifice his life for the sole purpose of taking [Calamity] with him, after all, he was sure that at this distance, the damage would be severe, and if he didn't kill him, he would at least do enough damage for his companions to finish the job.

"Oh, you want to sacrifice yourself as a martyr?" - Cloud asked as he let out even louder laughter - "Now that I've taken this form, I've managed to discover many interesting things and see the world from a completely different perspective. It's so wonderful to see how my vision changed so abruptly with just a few days, but there's one thing that hasn't changed."

"What" - muttered the soldier, only to feel his body freeze and his consciousness slowly begin to fade.

"That if you want to kill someone, you have to do it straight up" - Cloud replied as he withdrew his sharp tail from the soldier's chest. He had impaled him in the chest as the soldier continued to gloat over his victory - "You don't have to give your prey a chance to escape, because you don't know when you'll have it on the ropes again."
