18 Chapter 17:The Lies We Keep

It's been a few days since the incident between me and Bakugou. We haven't really talked much. Actually, we haven't talked at all. I don't know what to say. What can I say? I mean I would love to know why he punched Haru, though. I can't figure it out.

Could Bakugou have been...jealous? What? No! Of course not! What am I thinking? He was probably just being a dick, like usual.

But...it doesn't make any sense. Bakugou seemed fine until Haru called me babe. Just thinking about still makes me want to barf.

Babe? Eww.

If Bakugou was jealous, just an if question. It's not like I'm considering it. If he was, what would that mean? That he....likes me? And he couldn't stand watching me be with someone else?

I take a deep breathe as I prepare myself to turn the corner. Where my class is. Bakugou might be in there. But then again he might not. Even if he is there are probably more people there then just Bakugou.

I'm over thinking this way too much.

"Tremors?"I hear a voice ask.

My eyes widen and I clench my fists.

Nobody calls me that, but him. And I recognized his voice anyway. He never calls me by my real name. Except when he punched Haru. He called me by real name then. I didn't even realize. He must have really regretted it then.

"Bakugou..."I practically whisper. Loud enough for him to hear me, though.

"Uh.."he says, trying to fill the awkward silence between us.

I should turn to look at him. But I Can't. I Don't know why. I just can't.

But I want to ask him why he punched Haru. I might as well just do it.

"I-"he begins, but I cut him off.

"Why'd you do it? Why did you you punch Haru?"I turn around to face him. I can't keep wondering on about this. It's making me crazy.

"I...don't know."He looks away.

"You don't know?"

"Yeah I don't know, ok? I just...did it."

"You punched Haru, Bakugou. Hard. His cheek is still swollen even after three days. How are you not gonna know?"I cross my arms and glare at him.

"I was surprised, too. But I couldn't stop myself. When he hugged you and called you that, some thing in me clicked. My body moved on its own."

"He was just playing. I'm not his girlfriend. In fact he calls me his sister."

"Well how was I supposed to know that? Why'd he call you that then?"

"I don't know. One of his stupid tricks, I guess."I lie, shrugging. "Why do you even care? What if he was my boyfriend?"

His eyes widen and he looks away. "It wouldn't matter to me. Why would it?"

I can tell he's lying. It doesn't really take a genius to figure it out. Why would he punch Haru if it didn't matter to him?

"Hm. That's believable."I laugh.

"What does that mean, idiot?"he scowls.

"Come on, Bakugou. Are you that clueless?"I search his face. He can't be serious. "You wouldn't punch Haru if it didn't mean anything to you. That's the most stupid thing I've heard."

"Shut up! You don't know anything!"He snaps.

"I know that much at least."I turn around to face back to the way of the classroom. "See you in class, Bakugou."

I walk away towards the classroom, gripping the strap of my backpack. Does he think I'm an idiot? How could he punch Haru that hard and say it didn't mean anything?

I'll figure it out. He couldn't have been jealous. He just... couldn't!

I walk into the classroom and Ochako waves at me. I manage to smile back at her despite all of the thoughts running around my head.

I walk over to take a seat at my desk next to her.

"Hey, Y/N! How are you?"she greets me happily.

"I'm ok." I tell her.

"Are your injuries fine?"

"Yeah, don't worry. I didn't break anything and the old lady healed me up."

She nods. "Oh ok. That's good. I was a little worried to be honest. I was so scared when I saw Bakugou carrying your unconscious body."

My hands tighten at the mention of Bakugou's name. "O-oh. You don't have to worry."

That's right. He did help me. I guess I should try to be nicer. Wait what am I saying? I was trying to be nice! But he ruined it. How can I be nice to a jerk like him?

He walks in and keeps his head low as he walks over to his desk.

I look away too. He takes a seat and I sigh. What even is going on? What kind of relationship do we have? Are we friends or rivals? Or....something else?

NOPE! NO! But then again...wait! Noooo!

"Urgh!"I groan at my thoughts. This is all too much.

I hear my classmates talking. I think it's about how we showed up on the news. I don't know. I'm too busy trying figure out everything right now.

"Are you ok, L/N?"Ochako asks me.

I nod while laying my head on the desk.

"Attention! Homeroom class is about to begin! Everyone stop talking and take your seat."Iida exclaims.

We all stare at him.

"Uh we're all sitting."Kirishima says.

"Yeah, you're the only one standing."Sero adds.

"Dang it!"he says as he takes a seat in front of Ochako.

"Don't sweat it."Ochako reassures him.

"Hm. I wonder who will be teaching us since Mr.Aizawa was badly hurt."I say and shudder at remebering how bad my teacher looked at the USJ.

"Who knows?"Ochako says.

The door opens and at the doorway stands...MR.AIZAWA?!?! That can't be right. His injuries were way too bad.

"Good morning class."he says, muffles because of the bandages that cover his face. Both of his arms are in slings and casts too. That's not ok. He shouldn't even be up, never mind teaching.

"Mr.Aizawa, I'm glad you're okay."Iida says, raising his hand.

"You call that..okay?"Ochako says.

She's right. He's not okay at all.

"My well-being is irrelevant."he says, walking up to the podium. Um I doubt that's true. "What's more important is that your fight isn't over yet."

I'm sorry...what?!

"Our fight.."I hear Bakugou mumble.

"Don't tell me..."Midoriya says.

"Not more bad guys!"Mineta exclaims.

As much as I don't like that purple grape head, I have to agree with him. It hasn't even been a week since the USJ attack.

"The UA sports festival is about to start."Mr.Aizawa finishes.

Wait...what? He had me worrying for a second there.

"Why would you scare us like that?!"my whole class exclaims.

Seriously, I was about to have a heart attack. Is it even a good idea to have the sports festival? We were literally just attacked a few days ago.

"The sports festival!"my class exclaims again.

"Let's go kick some ass!"Kirishima exclaims.

"Wait a second."Kaminari says, interrupting his moment.

"Is it really such a good idea to hold the sports festival so soon after the villains just snuck inside?"Jirou asks, finishing for Kaminari.

"They could attack once we're all in the same place."Oijro says.

"Apparently the administration thinks this is a good way to show the threat has been handled and our school is as safe as ever. Plus they're boosting up security compare to past years. This even is a huge opportunity to for all UA students. It's not something we can cancel because of a few villains."my teacher explains.

"Uh I'm sorry, but why not? It's just a sports festival."Mineta says.

Well it isn't just a sports festival, but I don't think it's so important it's worth risking our lives.

"Mineta, don't you know how important the competition is?"Midoriya says.

"Of course I do. I just don't want to get murdered."Mineta responds.

Exactly. My mission is to graduate and become a hero. Not die.

"Our sports festival is one of the most watched events in the entire world. In the past, everyone obsessed over the Olympic games, but then quirks appeared."my teacher explains. "Now the Olympics have been drastically reduced in terms of scale and viewership. For anyone who cares about competition, there's only one tournament that matters. The UA sports festival."

"That's right. The top heroes everywhere will be watching."Yaoyorozu says. "This is where you get scouted."

"Sure, unless you're dead."he replies. Which is true.

"I don't have a good feeling about this.."I mumble quietly.

"She's right. After graduating, a lot of people join pro agencies as a sidekick."Kaminari adds.

"Yeah, but that's as far as some people go. They miss their chance to go independent and stay sidekicks. Actually, that's probably where you're headed. Kinda dumb"Jirou says.

Wow. That's harsh.

Kaminari makes a face and his thumbs-up disappears. That must have hurt.

"Not very gentle, I see Jirou."I chuckle.

She smiles. "It's the truth. Sorry Kaminari."

"Wow, that...really felt like kick to the stomach. Thank you, Jirou."he pouts.

I laugh and Jirou does too.

"It's ok man. I believe in you."Kirishima reassures him, but is also laughing.

"Hey, I never said I didn't."I smile.

His eyes light up and he turns to me. "Really?"

I smile at him and nod. "Of course!"

"Aww, thank you!"he smiles back.

I spot Bakugou scowling out of the corner of my eye. He has that look on his face again. The one he had before he punched Haru. Jealousy?

'

"Ok, as I was saying."Mr. Aizawa continues. "Of course, joining a famous hero agency will get you more experience and popularity. Time is limited. If you expect to go pro, then the path to your future will open up at this event. One chance a year. A total of three chances. No aspiring hero can afford to miss this event. If you understand that, then don't slack off your preparations."

"Yes, sir!"my class says simultaneously.

He's right. This event is one of the most important thing in a hero-in-training's life. Not one of us can afford to miss this.

"Homeroom is dismissed."he says.
