3 Chapter 3
Author's (Or Narrator's) Point of View
Anastasia looked around the worn out park once again looking for a certain blond girl with blue eyes
She should have looked here first as after all this park was Nikkis 'thinking place'
A shuffle made her look around
Seeing nothing she started looking around for Nikki
Her eyes snapped towards the swing and she peered into the darkness wondering if it was a girl or a dead tree beside the swing
A soft sob caught her attention making her realise that it was, indeed a person who appeared to be from the female section of the population
The blonde hair also worked in her favour but there was something missing over here
Anastasia hesitated before making her way towards the person but nothing could prevent from what she saw next
The person was crouched on the ground, hands wrapped around her knees, keeping the head down
"Nikki?" She asked her voice worried
The girl rose her face towards Anastasia, who was happy at first to see that the person was indeed Nikki
'She is alive' Anastasia thought with relief
That happiness went away as quickly as it had appeared as she took in Nikki's expression
There was so much pain and grief on her face that it nearly broke Anastasia's heart.. she wasn't used to seeing Nikki so.. broken
"What is it?" Anastasia asked her heartbeat increasing for no apparent reason
Nikki looked at Anastasia in confusion before the haze in her eyes cleared
"Tessie?" she asked hopefully
"Its me" Anastasia replies looking at the red rimmed eyes
"Why are you crying?" Anastasia asked brushing away the tears which were sliding down from her red swollen eyes
Nikki looked at Anastasia sadly "You were right" She stated her voice holding a strange defeat
"What.. What are you taking about?" Anastasia's voice was going higher and there was this kind of uneasiness bothering her
Instead of replying, Nikki removed her hands from her knees and let her knees slide down giving Anastasia a clear view of her abdomen from which..
"I saw a man dealing with guns, I tried to stop him but he ran away after stabbing me" Nikki explains, her voice soft
"NO!" Anastasia cried horrified looking hard at the knife protruding from Nikki's stomach
Thats when she realised what was missing.
It was Nikki's Aura
This was it. Nikki was going to die.... and she could do nothing
'No.. she can be saved' Anastasia thought 'I.. I will get her to an hospital'
"C'mon Nic, I'll get you to the hospital.. kay? You are gonna live. You hear me?" Anastasia ranted trying to help up Nikki
"Tessie.. it.. it hurts" Nikki said fresh tears sliding down her cheeks as her legs started to give out from under her
"No we-"
"Tessie stop" Nikki said in a abrupt tone making Anastasia shut up "I am going to die" Her voice was blank as if she was stating a fact
Anastasia opened her mouth but no words came out, she just stared at the girl who was losing her life rapidly by every passing second
"I am sorry I didn't believe you Tess. Forgive me will you? Tell my brother Jake that I love him, tell mom and dad that I love them, please and please don't let them cry, I will always love them and Tess, I love you too don't ever forget that, don't blame yourself.. kay? Do that for me, after all I am going to die aint I?" Nikki said her voice soft and defeated
It was silent for a while, even the little animals weren't making any noise, they were strangely silent
"I.. I am so sorry Nic...I couldn't do anything" Anastasia says looking hard at the ground wishing that the ground would swallow her up and make her get rid of this hollowness
Silence
"I understand if you are mad at me" She says after a while
No reply
After a while Anastasia looks up uncertainly
"Nic?" She raises her head to meet 2 sky blue eyes staring at her, not blinking and lifeless
"Nic?" She asks again her voice trembling
Silence greets her once again
"Nic? Wake up" Anastasia shakes her as if she could bring her back to life
"C'mon stop kidding and wake up" She coos lightly, shaking Nikki lightly
No response
"Goddamit" Anastasia swears tears pouring out of her eyes she looks at Nikki and the blood pooled around her torso
Suddenly the whole place thunders and rain starts pouring down hard
It feels like the whole place is mourning for a lost life, like even the God and the Angels are crying
And Anastasia instead of shrinking away or running away, welcomes the rain appreciating the cold tear shaped drops drenching her completely
She hovers above Nikki as if trying to protect her tiny frame from the fountain of fast falling chilled drops
Salty tears mix with the cold water as they drip down from Anastasia's jaw and on Nikkis forehead
She looks up at the sky, her eyes closed almost looking as if she was crying
Her body shakes as she replays the incidents which took place today, she clenches her trembling hands and glares at Nikki
"I warned you" She whispers "Why did you go out then?"
She looks at Nikki as if waiting for a reply
"I WARNED YOU" She shouts her voice ricochetting "HOW? How could you do that to me?.. You just care about yourself don't you? What about Jake? What about your parents? Hell! What about me Nikki? What about me? What will I do without you?"
'She died...I knew she was going to but-' Anastasia thinks quietly to herself as she stares at the unmoving body of Nikki before crouching down to close her lifeless blue eyes
'I never expected it to be so painful....'
