Chapter 4: Martial Soul Awakening Ceremony

I became used to becoming a child with a complete family, and the day I was waiting for a long time has arrived!

A noble Soul Master would arrive in our village to perform the "Awakening Ceremony" for six-year-old children of our place, giving us chances to seek the way of Martial Souls.

I am now a six-year-old, and one of the requirements of this ceremony.

To be truthful, I am quite nervous.

My mind was full of unnecessary thoughts that I wasn't able to catch that someone was in my back.

Someone tapped my shoulder which gave me a fright, only to find that it was my mother.

"Mother!" I was annoyed by the jump scare, still, it was my mother.

I embraced her tightly and felt her warm arms reciprocating mine as giggles entered my ears.

"Brother, why are you that absentminded again? We have been following you for a long time yet you did not notice us!" my loud sister appeared and squeezed in our hug, laughing at my previous embarrassing action.

"I… I am just thinking about the Awakening Ceremony"

My mother looked at me quite pitifully which gave me chills, what does that look mean?

"What are you worried about? As smart as you are, I'm sure you will awaken a strong martial soul, my son!" My Mother tried to cheer me as she smiled widely as if trying to conceal that earlier gaze.

"Yes, brother! You learned about the letters and numbers Mother has taught us for a long time so quickly, I am sure you will awaken the strongest one at that!" my little sister also joined in on the fun, making me smile wryly.

My mother told us that she has something important to do, I and my sister nodded.

We looked at our mother moving away from us, after making sure that she is not near, my sister inched into me, whispering something.

"Brother, do you think I will also have a Martial Soul?" my sister's brown eyes flickered with uncertainty, it looks like she was also nervous about her turn next year.

She was now a five-year-old, which means that for the next year, she will also undergo the Martial Soul Awakening.

People of the village have adored my sister after all this time, not just because of her cuteness but also her outstanding social communicative skills.

My sister was well-versed with interacting with people that I thought that maybe she was also a reincarnated soul like me, haha.

In opposition, I was scorned by other children because of how quiet I am as what I am always, well most of these haters are boys, are they jealous of my celestially sacred divine appearance?

I could find with my wide vision that small girls of the same age as me were peeking every time I sat in our living room where a window can be used to see what our house looks like inside.

But these lovestruck fools seemed to not appreciate my mother's amazing organization skills, only looking at me for a long time that I could only sigh.

Anyway, I don't really want to spurt nonsensical lies in front of my sister so I just said a piece of advice.

"Meng'er, life is not always how we wanted it to happen, but remember that mishaps may occur, don't lose the heart to drive yourself to reach your goals, always bury it into your mind!"

My sister's name was Wu Ru Meng.

"Woah brother, that was quite profound but affirmative!"

Seeing that the clouds covering my sister's mind have disappeared, I brought her inside our house as I was quite thirsty from waiting for that important person responsible for the Martial Soul Awakening.

I wanted to get back to our porch as when the Soul Master arrived, I could see him quickly because our house was located near the entrance of our village.

Our neighbors murmured yesterday that today, a Soul Master will arrive, I am just gonna wait until the promised time take place.

Loud greetings bellowed from the village gates, as a man donned in white robes with ordinary-looking features stepped in.

"Villagers! The time for the 69th Annual Martial Soul Awakening Ceremony will now commence! Please do bring the children eligible to join to where I am, thank you for your understanding!"

High sound waves exited the Soul Master's mouth that released sounds that can be heard even to the farthest edge of the village.

The Soul Master seemed to sound more of an advertisement clerk than an untouchable sovereign of the world, was he of the lowest tiers of the pyramid?

As excitement overflowed my heart, I ran quickly to find my parents, only to accidentally hear a solemn conversation coming from both of my parents.

"Feng, I am quite worried about our son, what if he does not awaken a Martial Soul like myself?"

My mother's anxious voice resounded in their room, I stayed at my position and continued to hear their gossip, it looks like they are talking about me.

"There is still a possibility Nichang, don't worry as we could only rely on fate to bestow our son a useful Martial Soul"

Wu Fengkong, my father consolingly replied to my mother, but I could understand that he just said that to also better himself.

"What if he inherited my untalented blood, just how big of a blow will he receive from this? It is my fault!"

The sobbing cries of my mother could be clearly heard by me, I accepted that I may not awaken my Martial Soul, pretending that it did not have any effect on me.

But deep inside, I felt desolateness that ate my heart wholly.

I quietly sat as they continued to talk by themselves, hearing that they wanted to go to where am I, I tiptoed to our porch to return unnoticeably and waited for them to arrive.

"Son, let us go there right now, are you excited to have your very own Martial Soul?" my father enthusiastically asked me, to which I nodded perfunctorily.

My father guided me to the Awakening Hall as I followed him from the back, I waved my hands to my mother to which she waved back.

From what can I see from my mother's red eye rims she tried to hide with her long hair, it seemed that what I've heard cannot be far from what really is the truth.
