1 You Died

'Boring....' Thought Elijah while looking down at his phone with a bored expression.

He was wearing a neat dark-blue suit. Elijah had just finished his daily work as a bodyguard for a high paid male model and was standing in front of the street with other people, waiting for the traffic lights to turn green.

He lifted his head up looking at the grey, rainy day. The rain was madly pouring down, he was lucky that he took his umbrella with him today. Elijah stood at the front of the crowd holding his phone in one hand and the umbrella in the other. He moved his head a bit, trying to move up his long red scarf that gave him a warm feeling in this grey and cold, rainy day.

He looked down at the display again, going through the messages he got while he was working.

"This world is so boring." Said someone who stood beside him.

Elijah didn't bother to look at the person who said it but he agreed, 'Yep you are right..'

"I guess it's time to reincarnate into a fantasy world...." Said the same person again.

Elijah's head shot up this time out of reflex.

He glanced at the youth standing next to him.

'An Otaku huh?' The youth had middle long messy raven black hair. He was wearing glasses and was plainly dressed. His whole presence seemed to scream "Shut-In".

'Poor guy, he read to many novels and took them serious...' Thought Elijah while his eyes drifted back to his phone.

"I knew it! God smiles upon me, the time to reincarnate into a new world has come!" Said the youth exited.

Elijah wasn't the only one who heard his crazy talk. Some people standing in the crowd shook their heads.

A smile appeared on Elijah's face, he found the crazy Otaku amusing.

'Huh ist already green?' Steven saw the youth move forwards.

Some people in the crowd lifted their heads, others even had the intention to cross the street.

It was only when they noticed that the traffic light was still red, that something was wrong.

Their gazes focused on the youth who moved first, who suddenly jumping forwards.

It wasn't a normal jump, he jumped high and with vigour. The way his body flew through the air had some kind of strange attraction to it.

'Wings?' Elijah could swear that he saw a pair of angel like wings on the back of the youth for a second. Many eyes were focused on the youth who had the happiest expression they had ever seen on another human. His happiness was contagious, it was a beautiful sight in this cold and rainy day.

Time seemed to slow down, giving this moment an epic feeling that ended abruptly when a white truck hit the youth.

Elijah stared blankly at the spot which the youth flew through the air before he was hit.

He heard people scream hysterical but they sounded so far away from him.

Elijah felt something warm running down his cheek. His hand automatically went up, he touched the warm fluid, it was blood.

His mouth opened but no sound came out. He was the only one who was stillstanding on the same spot.

The traffic lights finally turned green.

Elijah crouched down to pick up his phone which had fallen on the ground without him noticing it. His brain was still in the process of digesting what just happened.

He had served in the army for 7 years and had seen a lot of bad stuff happen. But this was different. It happened out of nowhere, without any real warning.

Elijah picked up his phone, which had some cracks on its display. A bad feeling spreaded across his trained body, making him frown.

He heard a familiar heaven defying sound for a second before an incredible pain assaulted him.

The people that had ran away screamed again, everything became even more chaotic when they saw a lightning struck the unlucky tall man with the red scarf who was holding an umbrella.

-----------------------------------

Elijah opened his eyes and found himself in the middle of ruins. He observed the area in Confusion.

"Oh? Hi there, welcome." Echoed a voice behind him.

Elijah turned around, a middle aged man stood in front of him.

His eyes went wide when he saw the man, his lower body didn't exist.

The body from the middle aged man seemed to fade away from his hip downwards, he didn't have legs, the man was floating above the ground.

Elijah's mouth was wide agape and his finger pointed at the nonexistent lower half of the man.

The man didn't seem offended by his behaviour.

"This? It's normal we are souls." Said the man calmly.

"We?" Blurted Elijah out, shifting his eyes down to himself. Indeed, he didn't had legs anymore.

Elijah couldn't believe it, "How is this possible?"

"You died, son." Answered the man like it was the most normal thing in the world.

"I died? How..." Elijah suddenly grabbed his head. His last memories before he died flashed through his mind.

'That sound...? Thunder? I was hit by lightning? F*ck!'

The middle aged man was observing Elijah closely, "Did you recall how you died?"

Elijah nodded slowly, he didn't know what to say at this moment.

He looked at the ruins again, "Where am I?"

The middle aged man smiled brightly, "That's an excellent question. Frankly speaking, no one knows for sure, some call if afterworld, others underworld and others call it the limbo. Who knows who is right." Answered the man happily.

Elijah listened carefully, memorizing every word the middle aged man said.

"Incredible, so this is where we land after dying...." Muttered Elijah absent minded to himself.

"And these ruins?" Elijah pointed at the ruins around them. The destroyed buildings reminded him of the old european building that existed in the past.

The mans happy expression changed into a complicated one, "No idea, they were always here."

Elijah finally noticed all kinds of people drifting aimlessly through the ruins, kids, women and old people.

He sensed that something was wrong with those people, the way they moved and their expressions seemed so empty....

The man followed Elijah's gaze and sighed, "They are lost souls, they couldn't accept death and became like that after staying here for too long." Explained the man with mixed feelings.
