7 The Meteor

Penny and her friends were all sitting by a fire, eating marshmallows and smiling as they shared stories and sang songs. Tails, on the other hand, was smiling as he stared up at the sky.

Amy looked over at him and smiled. "Tails, what are you doing?" She asked him.

Tails smiled. "Just enjoying the beautiful meteor shower!" He answered.

Penny's shot up. "Meteor shower?!" She grinned. Tails smiled at Penny. "That's right, Penny!" He said. "And this one is extra colorful!"

They all looked up, and he was right about that. Colorful asteroids with flaming colors of pink, red, green, blue, and yellow were flying all around them. Penny smiled as she pulled her knees to her chest. It was beautiful, indeed.

Knuckles smiled brightly as he pointed up to a meteor. "Hey, that one is flying beautifully towards us!" He smiled.

Penny and the others all felt the ground rumble as the meteor landed not far from here. Tails stood up and smiled. "This could be a major find!" He announced. "We need to approach it with great care so that..." Sonic interrupted Tails by picking Penny up bridal style, and dashed off. "Race you!" He said. Penny squealed with surprise at the sudden movement.

Tails sighed, noticing that his friends left him behind. "Hey, wait for me!" He cried, dashing off the boulder and following the gang.

Sonic and Penny made it to the volcano first, the last sighting where the meteor had fallen in. Yup. There it was. It was a big and purple meteor, just sitting there in the middle of the volcano, and glowing. Sonic set Penny to her feet and did a little victory dance. "Ha! Penny and I are first!" He smiled. The two pals high fived each other.

"Think again, Sonic." Eggman growled.

"Eggman?!" Sonic asked in shock, getting into a protective stance in front of Penny.

"That's right." Eggman growled. "And as the intrepid explorer who discovered this regal rock, I hereby call dibs."

"What?!" Sonic looked angry. "You can't call dibs!"

"Sonic's right!" Penny said, standing next to Sonic, who smirked at her.

"Oh, so now you two don't respect my dibs?" Eggman frowned. "What's next? Are you going to allow cutsies? Flout the five second rule? Step on a crack with no regard for your mother's spinal column?"

Knuckles walked up and placed his hands on his hips, frowning at the blue hedgehog. "Not cool, Sonic!" He scolded.

"Of course I respect dibs!" Sonic said, standing up for himself. "But you can only call dibs if you're touching the thing you desire to dibs!"

"Oooo, touché!" Penny grinned at Sonic. The girl turned to Eggman. "He's right, you know."

"Oh! In that case...." Eggman flew his mobile to the ground, and made a dash for the meteor. But Sonic was faster. Sonic and Eggman touched the meteor at the same time....

"DIBS!!" They yelled.....

.....and a huge explosion appeared, and Sonic and Eggman fell down, unconscious.

Sonic groaned as he opened his eyes. Where was he? He had no idea. He groaned in pain. He looked around to find himself in Eggman's layer. "What am I doing in Eggman's layer?" He asked. He looked over at a mirror and nearly flipped when he thought he saw Eggman. "EGGMAN!" Sonic growled. He took a dashing run to the mirror, but crashed to the ground instead. "Ugh." He groaned in pain. "What the..." He asked. He then realized something.

"What am I doing in Eggman's body?" He asked.

The door opened, and Sonic (in Eggman's body) saw Orbot and Cubot running in. Orbot smiled happily. "Dr. Eggman, you're awake!" He cried.

"We had to drag you back home!" Cubot said. "It was spring break all over again!"

"I'm not Eggman, I'm Sonic!" Sonic tried to explain to the robots about the situation he was in. But the bots weren't buying it.

"He's pretending to be Sonic again." Orbot whispered.

"Yeah, and I'm not going to be Penny this time!" Cubot frowned.

"Sonic, you rest here." Amy said, having Sonic to lie down on his hammock.

"Yes, Amy, dear, I won't move, for I am Sonic!" Sonic (actually Eggman) said. Amy smiled as she walked off. Penny, however, slapped her head in annoyance. Ever since Sonic had woken up from the explosion, Sonic's been acting weird. "And this is my humble shack!" Sonic added also. Amy turned back to him with a confused expression on her face, and turned to the girl.

"Penny, are you sure you'll be fine with keeping an eye out for him?" Amy asked sounding concerned.

"Amy, I'm sure I can handle it!" Penny smiled. Amy smiled back, but the human girl could tell she was a little uneasy. Once Amy left the house, Penny turned to Sonic. "Are you hungry? How about a chili dog?"

"Absolutely, dear Penny. I would enjoy eating one of those dogs." Sonic said strangely. Penny frowned, and walked out to the kitchen to prepare a plate of two chili dogs.

Once she was gone, Sonic (actually Eggman) smirked evilly and started talking to himself. "All right, don't freak out. Play it cool. You're Sonic now!" Eggman told himself. He laughed crazily.

"Did you say something?" Penny called from the kitchen.

"Uh, no, I was just thinking something funny that that red imbecile said!" Eggman said through Sonic, defending himself strangely.

"You mean Knuckles?" Penny asked, walking in with a plate of chili dogs.

"Yes, Nuffles." Eggman smirked through Sonic's body. "That's the guy!"

Penny frowned a little, set the plate in front of Sonic, and walked over to the room where Sonic had given her to stay in. The girl fell face down on the pillow. This was crazy! Why was Sonic acting so strange?

From downstairs, Penny could hear him talking to himself. "This is delicious," he was saying. "With my genius mind and Sonic's speed, I'll finally destroy these pesky rodents once and for all!"

Penny frowned. Sonic was acting strange.

Penny flipped herself upwards, and hugged the pillow to her chest as she heard Sonic dashing around the living room. Penny heard a thump, and she heard Sonic groan as he mumbled, "This will take some time to get used to."

Something hit the girl like a light bulb.

Eggman was inside Sonic's body.

And Penny had to go tell Tails.

"Those numbers are off the chart!" Tails said in annoyance as he tossed away the smaller chart. "Fortunately, I have a bigger chart, thanks to Penny." He smiled as he took out a big chart that Penny had given to Tails as a little gift. He took out a pencil and started marking it. He looked at the purple meteor and smiled.

"Now, let's find your purply secrets!" He said.

"I'm telling you!" Sonic tried to tell Eggman's robots. "I'm Sonic! Eggman switched brains with me!"

Orbot and Cubot looked at each other.

"I mean, I switched bodies with Eggman." Sonic said, trying to make sense.

"Hold on." Cubot said in confusion. "Did you switch brains or did you switch bodies?"

"BOTH!" Sonic said exasperatedly.

"Well, then, nothing's changed." Orbot said.

"Listen, gear brain..." Sonic tried to threaten Orbot. However, the two robots smiled. "Definitely Eggman."

"Look, I'm not Eggman! I'll prove it!" Sonic tried, and tried to start running like he used to when he was in his own body. He couldn't take it anymore, and he collapsed to the ground. "I can't take it any more!" He whimpered. "What is this awful feeling in my lungs?!"

"Good show, sir!" Orbot smiled, applauding.

"Really impressive stuff, boss!" Cubot smiled.

"Need.... to find.... Tails....he'll know what to do!" Sonic wheezed.

Soon, Sonic (err... Eggman..) finally got a hold of Sonic's speed, and the blue devil was running around the shack, smiling proudly to himself when he stopped. "Now, that I have finally got the hang of this athletic but far less handsome body, I can destroy those do-gooders for good!" He laughed crazily, but didn't notice Penny behind him.

"Wow, you're really not yourself today," Penny frowned, putting her hands to her hips.

"P-Penny! How long have you been standing there?" Eggman through Sonic's body asked.

"That long to know that you're not Sonic!" Penny frowned. "Who are you, really?"

"Fine, you've got me! I'm actually Eggman!" Eggman in Sonic's body said. "Don't you dare tell anyone, though. Or you'll regret it!"

Penny gulped, but nodded slowly. Eggman in Sonic's body smirked, pleased.

Amy's voice was heard. "Sonic! Penny! I made milkshakes for everyone!" She announced.

"Oooh, milkshakes!" Eggman grinned evilly. "OK, Milkshakes first, then destroy arch-enemies."

Penny frowned. Now how was she going to get it to Tails?

"I appreciate you guys lending me the Egg-Mobile." Sonic said as he struggled to fly the mobile. "I have no idea how Eggman gets around in this flotation device he calls a body."

Orbot and Cubot looked at each other. "Did he just say he appreciates us?"

"I'm thinking he's not Eggman after all!" Cubot said. "Could someone else be in his body?!" He looked at Orbot. "And if so, WHO?!"

Soon, Sonic (I mean Eggman) and Knuckles were playing a video game together. Eggman won, and whooped victoriously. "Ha Ha! Yeah! Score One for Egg...eer, I mean, Sonic." Eggman chided. He had to be more careful!

"Hey, no need to rub it in, dude." Knuckles frowned.

"Of course. Sonic's a good sport!" Eggman smirked. He turned to him. "I don't know what got over me, Nuggets."

He turned away from a frowning Knuckles and flipped through Sonic's appointment book. "Let's see... Badminton with Sticks at 4:30. Then a hike with the gang, can't miss that. A dinner out with Penny, can't miss that. either." He shot the human girl a sirk and Penny gulped. Eggman turned back to the book. "Another video game section with Nibbles at 7. Then I'll destroy everyone at 7:15!" He frowned. "Wait. Penny and I are also going to see that chick flick at 9. I'll have to destroy them tomorrow!" He smiled, shutting the book.

Hearing a crash outside, Eggman jerked inside Sonic's body. "What's that?" He asked.

Penny ran outside. The human girl saw Eggman-no, Sonic-in Eggman's mobile, which was crashed on the ground. "Sorry about the rough landing!" He said.

"MY BABY!" Eggman in Sonic's body yelled, running out.

Sticks and Amy got into fighting stances.

"Guys, that's Sonic!" Penny yelled, and Sonic in Eggman's body turned to me. "Penny!" He smiled.

"Sonic!" Penny waved back.

"Nice try, Eggman!" Knuckles said, then reconsidered what he said. "Wait, no, that was a terrible try."

"But I'm not Eggman, I'm Sonic!" Sonic in Eggman's body looked hopefully at the girl. "You know that, right, Penny?"

"If you touch her, Eggman, you're garbage!" Sticks growled, grabbing Penny's hand and pulling her behind her.

"Don't listen to him!" Eggman in Sonic's body proclaimed. "I'm Sonic, look how blue I am! Must be one of his ingenious plans we all admire him for, hu, friends?" He asked.

Amy and Sticks looked at each other and burst out laughing. "Ingenious plans!" Amy wheezed, clutching her stomach. "Good one, Sonic!"

"Yeah, we're making fun of Eggman here, because we're secretly jealous of him, right? I mean, the brains, the panache, the mustache? He's the total package!" Eggman in Sonic's body smirked. Everyone expect Penny and the real Sonic burst out laughing.

"Listen, Eggman and I switched bodies somehow!" Sonic said. "He's me, and I'm him!" And right at that, Knuckles fell over laughing, and Eggman smugly tossed a pie in Penny's face. "HEY!" The human girl's yelling got muffled from the pie gunk that got into her mouth, eyes, and nose. She could hear Eggman in Sonic's body yell, "HEY! EGGMAN THREW A PIE ON PENNY!"

Knuckles growled at Sonic (err... Eggman.)

"What?" Sonic asked, looking at Penny with worry as the girls pulled her away and started to help wipe the pie off. "No, I didn't!"

"Let's send this miscreant packing," Eggman ordered, moving Sonic's hand to point at the real Sonic. Sonic in Eggman's body ducked as Sticks threw her boomerang at him, causing him to trip. Sonic gulped and scooted backwards, but bonked into Knuckles.

"Perhaps it's time we bid our foes adieus." Orbot told Cubot.

"No time!" Cubot said. "We have to get out of here!" The two robots hopped into the crashed-up mobile and flew off after Sonic, who was still being chased by Knuckles.

"No, I'm Sonic! You've got to believe me!" He yelled. He grunted as he felt himself being picked up by some metal, and he had no choice but to retreat.

"With my body at his disposal, Eggman's just too powerful. How can I take the fastest hedgehog in the world like this?!" Sonic motioned to Eggman's body.

"Ahem." Cubot cleared his throat, and motioned to Eggman's army of robots.

"Oh, yeah!" Sonic smirked. This, he knew, was something that Eggman won't see coming!

After Penny got the rest of the pie wiped off her face, the girl glared at the fake Sonic, who was smirking and talking about their last victory.

"Did you see the look on his face when he ran off?" Eggman asked Penny's teammates.

"He looked ridiculous," Knuckles smiled, "especially with that stupid mustache!"

"All right, Noodles," Eggman silenced Knuckles with a frown. "That's enough."

"Whoa, do you guys feel that?" Sticks asked as the ground began to shake.

It was Eggman's Obliterator Bot.

"Remember, warning shots only." Sonic was saying through Eggman's body to the robots. "I don't want anyone hurt, got it?"

The robots looked at each other with confusion in their expressions.

"What are you waiting for?!" Sonic through Eggman's body yelled.

"We're programmed to obey orders after being threatened." Orbot said.

Sonic sighed. "All right then. Nobody gets hurt or someone's gonna get hurt!"

"Yes sir!" The robots said, saluting before they went off to fight. Amy saved Penny from a robot by smashing it with her hammer.

"Oh, come on!" Eggman in Sonic's body complained. "Do you have any idea on how much those cost?! Between the parts and the labor..." He was cut off after Amy saved Penny again by smashing a bee.

"Oh, jeez."

Penny looked up just in time to see Eggman and Sonic collide together, and Penny ran over to try to stop something from happening, but that failed. Sonic accidentally landed on Penny and Eggman, and the human girl grunted from the weight that was now on her. Just how heavy were these guys?!

"Hey!" Amy yelled. "Eggman crushed Sonic and Penny!"

"GET HIM!" Knuckles growled.

The fight continued.

Tails studied the meteor with fierce determination. He swatted at a fly who was buzzing by his ears. The fly landed on the meteor, and a lizard soon climbed on the rock beside him. Tails watched curiously as the bug flew off and landed once again on the meteor. A huge purple light shot up from it, and Tails watched in shock as the lizard and bug started acting like... they switched brains.

"Wow!" Tails gasped, his eyes wide. "Did they just switch brains?!"

Tails soon joined the battle, and Sonic in Eggman's body helped me up. "Sorry about that.." Sonic said.

"Thanks, Sonic." Penny smiled.

"How did you know?" Sonic smirked.

"I just knew. This maniac was acting WEIRD all day long!" Penny pointed to Eggman in Sonic's body accusingly. Before Eggman in Sonic's body could make another accusation of what Sonic in Eggman's body was doing to Penny, Tails soon ran up, his eyes wide as he yelled, "Sonic is Eggman, Eggman is Sonic!" He pointed to the meteor, which was in the cart.

Eggman in Sonic's body sped over to the meteor and snatched it away.

"Wait. What did Tails say?" Penny heard Knuckles ask.

"Oh, nothing. You know Tails. Such a jokester." Eggman smirked, holding the meteor and waving a dismissive hand at Penny and her friends, but saw they were frowning at him.

"When Eggman and Sonic touched the meteor, they switched brains!" Tails explained.

Amy gasped.

"How come no one ever told me?!" Sobbed Cubot, and Orbot tried to comfort him.

"In order to swap back, they both need to touch the meteor again!" Tails said.

Sonic dropped the meteor, giving a smug look.

"Come on, Eggman, just touch this and give me my body back!" Sonic pleaded.

"You can't make me." Eggman sneered. "I'm the fastest evil genius in the planet! He zoomed around. "Now I'm here! And here! Nothing can make me touch your purple rock." Eggman sneered.

Sonic smirked. "Really? Not even a close shave?" He pulled out a pair of scissors.

"You wouldn't dare." Eggman growled.

"Oh, I would." Sonic bought the scissors up to Eggman's mustache.

"So, Eggman, what's it gonna be? The speed, or the stache?"

Eggman finally had enough. "STOP!!!" He yelled, and dashed towards the meteor.

Soon, everything was back to normal.

"So close. I was so close to beating Sonic," Eggman growled in annoyance.

Orbot and Cubot started laughing.

"What are you too laughing at?" Eggman growled.

"Nothing, Boss." Cubot said defensively.

However, when Eggman turned around, his face was red as a beat, and a hedgehog logo was on his forehead, causing the robots to laugh again.
