28 Bad news

Okumura Rin POV

"Okay, that's enough. Can we get back on the road?" Rei stops me with an annoyed face.

"We can, but if anyone doesn't mind we can check the Police Station to see if we can find any help or Guns and Bullets?" I suddenly remember about the Police Station suggests them to go there.

It was worth a shot since we leave quite early so there is a chance the Police haven't leave yet.

"I just remember my Father's Office is nearby!' Rei informs us.

" Great! We can go there first and check your old man's conditions!" Juliet said as she hugs Rei, feeling happy for her friend.

"Rei don't hope too much okay? The-"

"I understand, I just want to see it with my own eyes. Let's go!"

I was about to warn Rei so she won't hope too much, but she seems to be fine.

Glad that she understands.

We head to our next destination and hopefully our last detours before reaching Rei's house, so I can visit Shintoko Third Elementary School and Tokonasu Offshore International Airport faster.

When we reach the Office it has been abandoned already.

I pad Rei shoulder, she looks at me with a small forced smile.

She touches my hand and shook her head, signaling me that, "It's fine".

Even though she is sad that her father is nowhere to be found.

We get inside the Police Station and check the armory, sadly as I expected it was already empty by the Police.

Luckily we find a zombie carries a gun.

I was walking at it, prepare to kill it, but Yuuki accidentally drop a mug from a table.

We prepare for an attack from all sides, only to find the zombies don't react at all, in fact, none of them did.

We know something is not right so I quickly cut the head of the zombie with MP5SFK while others gather anything they can find in the Evidence Room.

When we are outside everyone except me starts panting, trying to catch some breath. They were probably shocked about what has happened and feel glad we have left the Station.

" Wha-what happen back there?!" Shizuka-sensei asks in a panic manner.

"They are not only evolving, but they also learn." I inform them with a serious face.

I look at Saya and Rei who oddly don't ask me "How did you know it?" or "Why do you say something like that?".

They were probably tired of asking, which is good for me.

The miasma is not only spreading in the air, causing evolution, and stopping the reanimated corpses from getting rotten and decay.

It still has one more use.

That one use is the source of our problems.

"The zombies maybe look stupid and easy to trick and fall into a trap, but they are connected to each other."

"One experience is everyone's experience. People out there must have realized their weaknesses and exploit them, the problem is they won't stay the same stupid and slow walking corpse we know. Not for long."

This new discovery left everyone speechless.

The zombie's biggest advantage is they are stronger than normal humans and only can be killed by targeting their heads.

Now we know they can learn and they are connected, like their evolution is not enough to be worried about.

If zombies in here didn't quickly react to sound, that meant the rest too.

"They probably learn to not follow all sources of sounds, so if we don't talk like we did before we should be fine. For now, that is."

Zeke starts to bark at me then bite my pants while trying to pull me.

I crouch down and look at him.

He looks at me with a grumpy face and barks angrily (I think).

"Sorry, your right. I should stay focus and stop being worried so much." I say to him while rubbing its head with my palm.

Zeke became happy and jump at me, I catch him then he licks my face.

'This dog is really smart and brave.'

I love Cat, but Zeke proves to me that Dog is not bad at all.

Third POV

It was a normal day for Kiriko Miyamoto,

her daughter goes to school, her Husband going on his investigation, searching for clues so the Police can put the Shido's behind bars.

Sadly the outbreak happens and everyone's peaceful life disappears.

Kiriko contacts her daughter's phone and fails, so she tries her husband, still the same result. Her final hope is his special number and luckily it works. Even though he can't hear her, she hears his warning.

"Honey, if you can hear me find a place to hide and stay away from people who try to bite others-"

Short, but at least Kiriko knows her husband is still alive out there.

After that, she works together with everyone in the neighborhood near her house and stays with them.

She manages to get along with everyone, they can survive for now.

... Or at least that's what she thought.

Not long after the outbreak, a new stranger came to them, asking for a place to stay. They let the stranger in and became part of them.

Today Kiriko was sent out to gather food for everyone, alone. She wasn't suspicious about anything as she believes everyone was just scared to go outside.

Much to her surprise, she returned and they refused to let her back in. As she was banging on the gate she hears a familiar voice calling for her using a call only one person ever use.

"Mom!"

Kiriko turns around and finds her daughter running at her.

"Mom!" Rei, her daughter shout as she jumps at her embrace.

"Rei! You're alive! I am so glad!"

"Me too Mom! Me too!"

Many new faces came, watching the duo of mother and daughter sweet reunion.

After everything that happens, able to meet her daughter alive is good enough for Kiriko.

When Kiriko finally calms down she looks at the people around her, most of them are around her daughter's age. Oddly there is only one male among them.

She stops her mind from thinking anything weird and talks to them.

"Thank you for watching my daughter!" Kiriko says to them while bowing 90 degrees.

"No, we are working as a team, so it's only natural if we watch for each other back." A young woman with purple hair politely replies to her.

Kiriko introduces herself to them and Rei introduces everyone to them.

"The purple hair is my senpai, Busujima Saeko-senpai."

Saeko smile as she is being introduced.

"The pink hair is my classmate, Takagi Saya-san."

Saya only nods at her.

"The guy with black hair is another classmate of mine, Okumura Rin."

He smiles while waving his hand at her.

"The blond adult is our School infirmary nurse, Marikawa Shizuka-sensei."

"Greetings!"

Shizuka smile at her as they shake their hands.

"The blond cheerleader is Juliet Starling, we meet her when we stay at Shizuka-sensei friends place."

"Nice to see a person who isn't dead or crazy!"

Juliet said in Japanese to Kiriko with a cheerful tone.

She wasn't expecting the foreigner to able speak in Japanese.

"The little girl is Alice, we meet her along with Juliet."

The girl peak from behind Rin as she shyly nods at her.

Kiriko smile at her as she pats her head.

"And the little dog is Zeke!"

The dog bark at her.

"There are more of us who came here, but they lead other survivors we encounter at the mall to Takagi estate."

Hearing that there are more of them and they are staying at Takagi estate is a fresh wind for Kiriko.

They talk for a while and agree to check Shintoko Third Elementary School and see if there is any survivor there.

"I just remember, did you see Takashi-kun?"

Kiriko knows Rei and Takashi are still befriended each other even after they break up, so she was curious why she didn't see him with her.

She knows there is a possibility Takashi is with the group that returned to Takagi estate, but part of her is worried.

Kiriko knows the boy since he is still so small, he is already like a son to her so she asks them about Takashi when they mention the School where his mother is working as a teacher.

When most of them have a gloomy expression, especially Rin and Rei, she realizes there is something wrong that has happened before they came.

Kiriko prays nothing bad is happening to him.
