Prologue

The rain keeps falling. I've always loved the rain. I look up into the night sky, from how the sky looks, you'd never guess the amount of bloodshed that has taken place here. I looked at my surroundings, I'm still in this forest.

There are mutilated and charred corpses all around me. I don't remember how many I killed tonight. I look down at my hands, they're stained crimson. "When was the first time I took a life?" I wondered aloud. I warned the group that attacked me I'd kill them if they didn't leave. I wish they took my warning.

I look up again and close my eyes. Memories of my past swirl around in my head. The peaceful days with my father, Yoljun. The magic he taught me, how quickly I learned it. The times he comforted me, scolded me, and protected me. I still remember the day he was murdered. As if it was only yesterday.

"Get back boy," I look up at the colossal dragon, "Dammit I said go, I'll be fine my son." I struggled to get on my feet, I turned and ran. "You better come back father!" I look back as I yell to him. The dragon smirks at me, "I'm Yoljun, I'll survive." He lets out a mighty roar, and I continue to run. The sound of battle fading into the distance as I ran.

Up on a mountain, I sat there eating a midday meal, "Where are you father?" It's been three days since I last saw him. As I finish eating I stand up and start making my way back.

Within an hour I find the field where we were attacked. The ground was charred in multiple areas. Corpses littered the battlefield. The stench of death pungent in the air. I didn't care about any of that. My eyes were focused on a large corpse. Pieces of it were missing. I felt tears falling from my eyes as I made my way towards him. When I reach his lifeless body, I reach out and touch his scales. I curl up into him, my tears overflowing.

I remember how it took me years to track them down. How I trained to no end. I became proficient with a sword, and my magic reached new heights. How I invaded their hideout and slaughtered every single one of them. All their faces were retorted with fear and despair. Some begged for their lives, but to no avail.

After that I continued to travel the world, wandering aimlessly. I had hit my 23rd birthday this year. I didn't really care, it was just another year that had passed.

I kept wandering until I found myself here in this forest. I was surrounded by these men. Mages and warriors alike.

I opened my eyes and stood on my feet. I looked to my right and started to walk that way. No matter what, I'll live on for the both of us father.

I've walked for what feels like hours. My vision is starting to get blurry. "Guess I'm more exhausted than I thought, how about that." My eyes close and I collapse on the hard wet ground.
