5 Faey as in Fairy?

"The elevator isn't working."

"We shouldn't be worrying about that tonight my lady." Arikyer said. "We have more urgent matters at hand."

She was trying to go down the building but apparently the machine wouldn't open.

"What do you mean a more urgent matter at hand than trying to return to my grandmama?" said Red as she pushed random buttons hoping the freaking machine would spring back to life.

Great. Now she's stuck with a guy she thinks she knows but has no idea who he really is. Normally girls would have been delighted to get stuck with handsome men but count Red out of the statistics. She looked around and realized only emergency lights lit the creepy corridor.

"Please keep calm my lady and listen to me first." Arikyer seized her hands from potentially damaging the elevator buttons as her patience started to run dry.

"Don't worry about your grandmother. Someone trust-worthy is looking after her." he looked straight into Red's face and she could see he was serious and didn't have time for jokes.

"Who are you really Arikyer and why are you bothering me?"

Arikyer knelt down on one knee and opened his hands as if surrendering.

"I am Arikyer, born from the Elfen race and raised as a Faey warrior. I was chosen to be your protector even before you awoke. I vow my service to you my queen candidate, Ruby Rose Springfield." He spoke.

"You have seen the Faey Queen in your dreams. Her prophecies have led to this very moment in time."

"Wait so let me get this straight. Faey as in fairy?" Red clarified.

"Faey, Faery, Fair folk. There are so many names for our kind." Arikyer replied.

"So, if you guys exist, does that mean vampires and werewolves exist too?" she added.

"Vampires as what humans call them, are Faey who delved into blood magic. Very dangerous. Werewolves on the other hand are animal shapeshifting Faeys."

"Angels?" Surely angels aren't fairies too.

"Light Faeys. Mermaids: Faeys who live in water." Little Mermaid was a sea fairy?

"Demons?" she added.

"Same with vampires. Only more dangerous with their dark magic. Takes human souls."

"Tinkerbell?"

"She is typically a sprite."

"Like a softdrink?"

"No. Like tiny Faey with insect-like wings. Pesky buggers but not deadly." Arikyer said looking a bit agitated. It's as if he's in such a hurry but was patient enough to answer all of Red's questions.

Her whole childhood was a lie! She really thought fairies were just little people who had magical dust floating around like Tinkerbell.

"Why was I chosen? And what happened to me a while ago?" she finally asked now that she was in her right mind. What was all those steam and heat about?

"Only the Faey Queen knows her reasons who she chooses." Their eyes met, green and turquoise. "You will need to trust me my lady."

"If I do, what's in it for me?" lights flickered and the everything was still.

"A whole new world you have never seen." he smiled cryptically. "Aren't you curious even a tiny bit?"

Red's doubt mixed with a surprising excitement. Her ordinary life had turned into something astonishing. Ruby Rose Springfield, a normie, after having headaches and weird dreams, turned out to be a queen candidate? Much more; a candidate to rule the kingdom of a world full of magic?

"Come with me, I shall show you." Before Red could even decline, he chanted a spell that created a circle of colorful fungus that illuminated the whole floor.

"Partio!"

There was a blinding blue light and when she opened her eyes, they were already at the building entrance.

"What the f - " Red gawked. Arikyer who was holding her hand thinking she might get dizzy with her first short distance teleportation, let it go gently. Red didn't even notice.

"Please take out your pocket watch my queen." he said.

Red who was still in shock, absent-mindedly took her timepiece out then suddenly realized she almost handed him her most prized possession.

"Wait why should I hand it over to you?"

Arikyer lightly laughed showing a small dimple at his right cheek.

"Please take a look at the engraved emblem." He prompted.

Red checked and noticed that what was once a bud, has now opened into full bloom.

"Every queen candidate has one of these. When the bud blooms, it means the candidate has awoken. Opening the watch will show the hands pointing towards the first of seven trials the Faey Court and Queen have prepared. Like a compass, this shall lead us to the answers you seek."

Red opened the watch, the hands weren't showing the right time. Instead, they were all pointing to her west.

"Shall we?" the Faey warrior asked.

"But grandmama, I need to check on her. I haven't even informed her I went out!" Red looked up to see the 5th floor where the old lady's room is.

It was lit from the inside, a tiny plump shadow moved as if nothing was wrong.

Huh?
