Stretching, Afton rose from the bed and went to retrieve her robe from where it lay across the vanity chair. She planned to make coffee for him, and even add one of those high-protein breakfast biscuits if she could coax him to take a bite.

When she entered the kitchen, she found Hexaba sitting on top of the refrigerator. "Well, there you are, Miss Prissy," Afton pronounced as she opened the fridge to retrieve the coffee can. "Where have you been, out stalking mice? Not to worry though, I'll feed you in a minute. So, what do you think about the new man in my life? Is he a keeper?"

Hexie merely yawned, seemingly bored with both topics of mice and men. So far this morning, Mac hadn't coughed or sneezed, a promising sign that he was getting used to having the cat around.
