3 Aurora

[ Wha- what!!? ]

I tried a usless attempt to back away but was reminded that I was stuck to the ground.

[ Don't be too surprised, I got alot more interesting things to tell you~ ]

I was speechless, completely flabbergasted, both on the outside and in my head. The woman was literally talking to me through my toughts.

She acted like what she did was no big deal, but it was truly astonishing.

[ Wha- huh... H- HOW!? ]

[ Hmmm, you'll understand how I did it later, but we can at least have a proper conversation now. Anyways we have more important things to talk about.]

[ ... ]

I was uncomfortable letting a stranger inside my head, but how could I go against a magical flying fox girl?

It had also been a long time since I spoke to anyone so I was undergoing an explosion of emotions.

I felt fear, uncertainty, discomfort, yet a bit of joy and expectation was also present.

With a smug on her face she continued 'thinking'.

[ Let me first address some things that might be bothering you~ ]

[ O- ok... ]

[ First of all, why don't we introduce ourselves~? ]

I wanted to get it over with so I 'thought' first.

[ ... a- alright... my name is- is Ki- Kiyoshi Carter... ]

[ Hummm is that it? What a bland introduction~ Alright then I'll just do the same, you can just call me Aurora~ ]

[ ... ]

[ The main thing you need to know right now is that you aren't the only one in this situation. Every single human being was thrown into this purple mist so I could have a nice chat with everyone without any interruptions~ Same reason for you not being able to move. ]

[ ... ]

It was true that up untill then everything I experienced was unreal, but from that point onwards, I was too mentally exhausted to be shocked at any other surprises.

[ Also, you don't have to worry about me listening to all of your thoughts. I'll only hear the things that you focus on~ ]

I was still trying to process what the woman said when she laid another bombshell onto me.

[ Secondly, as you may have already guessed from my little display of magic, I'm not human~ You can think of me as the last surviving 'living being' in the universe other than the ones that are present here on earth. ]

Every word she said caused my understanding of reality to crack.

I couldn't fully understand what she was saying, but I knew that it was important, so I decided the best thing to do was to ask.

[ La- last surviving..? ]

Her expression visibly darkened at my question.

[ Yes, the last surviving living being... and that brings me to my next point. ]

I kept looking at her while I was 'thinking' so I didn't miss what she did next.

'Aurora' drew an arc in the air with her left hand while red light appeared in her silver eyes. Then, in thin air, a semi-transparent image of earth and all its surrounding planets materialized.

The vivid red, blue, pink and purple colors that surrounded it made it look extremely beautiful.

It was a breathtaking scene but with a motion of her hand the image was zoomed out and hundreds of planets that I had never seen before were shown.

These planets varied in shapes and sizes but they all had one thing in common.

They were all dark.

It was hard to explain, but it was like all color from the planets was taken away and replaced with gray and black.

I felt goosebumps all over my body.

I shifted my gaze from the image to the strange 'Aroura' and asked:

[ ... This is? ]

She paused a bit, like she was in deep thought and then continued.

[ The universe is much bigger than you humans know. It's filled with various different species and races. Some, like you humans are inferior in technology and are unaware of this. Others however, can easily travel to different planets and form treaties with each other... well that's at least how it was in the past... ]

My reality was now completely shattered, but I kept paying attention and could feel a strong sorrow from the alien woman.

Her expression at that point was ugly, filled with a strong killing intent.

[ The different races I just told you about are now all extinct, with the exception of me. My people were the strongest of all races, but even we were beaten. ]

In any other situation I would have called her crazy and moved on, but she had already shown me that strange magic so all I could do was believe her.

With grief filled eyes she point at the unique image.

[ Earth is the only planet with life left and the rest are now completely destroyed... and the thing that destroyed the other planets is now on it's way to earth. ]

[ What!!? ]

[ Hah, you finally reacted~ Yup, what I said is true, and it's the very reason I came to earth. With some help I was able to escape my planet in time before 'it' destroyed everything ]

I was sweating profoundly with fear and panic in my heart as I asked what 'it' was.

[ It...? ]

[ I don't know much about it, except for a fact that 'it' is a virus that travels through space and infects living beings without warning. It turns the infected into mindless creatures with monsterous strength and speed that further spread the virus, ultimately destroying that planet. ]

[ So... a zombie apocalypse? ]

I was quite skeptical about this but what would Aroura get from lying to me?

[ In simple words yes but It goes beyond that. If it was just a simple apocalypse my people would have never lost. You see, the species that were infected on other planets appeared randomly in ours too. So we were fighting against not just our own race, but others aswell. ]
