27 Experiencing the Cliches of Life

The city right below New Haven, the flying city, is called Senex. In a forgotten language (Latin), translating to The Old. Senex comprises sections, from the downright poor areas to the upper-middle class.

You wouldn't find any well-established Noble that living in Senex. They only make their way to the lower city if they're visiting their businesses and such.

The crime rate within Senex is high; if you don't have the power to protect yourself, better watch out. Of course, this is only for the poor areas of Senex. In the areas with proper residential housing, they maintained security to a certain standard, at least.

The best occupation that can get you out of poverty is being an Adventurer in the Adventurer's Guild; Adventurers accept all sorts of tasks, from gathering herbs to killing monsters.

Of course, it required talent in this field of work. From magical talent to combat skills, everything that will keep you alive. The strongest one is the survivor of all endeavors.

But due to this, the amount of members within the Adventurer's Guild is vast. The Guild also operates in every country and is a neutral organization. Meaning, it is open to every race, but sadly it's dominated by the Human populace with their numbers.

Anyway, both Aerys and Kara were currently outside of the city gates, waiting to gain entry. Kara dressed in a hooded robe, but it was exquisite since it had masterful embroidery. Though, she covered her face with a veil since she was quite the beauty, not to toot her own horn.

"Master, why must we line up? We could directly teleport inside. Their anti-teleportation barrier is rather lacking compared to yours," spoke Aerys. The Dragon was indeed correct. Kara could've just popped right in.

Nodding to Aerys' statement, "Aren't you curious how they will react? An unknown armored savage-looking warrior is accompanying a frail, delicate flower. I'm curious as to how they'll react, aren't you?"

Aerys merely shook her head (Currently in woman form), "I'm not as curious to every single thing in life, Master. And what do you mean frail? The frail, delicate flower had thoughts of exterminating humanity. Is that still frail?"

"*Cough* A nuclear flower then, is that okay?" Kara shamelessly changed her description, absolutely brilliant. Soon, they were the next ones standing in front of the stationed knight.

"Please show identification and pay the toll fee of three silvers," the knight sounded lazy and hadn't laid eyes on Kara's party. At this moment, several scenarios were playing out within Kara's mind.

'Act like a spoiled brat and throw golden coins? Act smug and point towards Aerys? Act as a foreign Noble? Oh, so many scenarios to experience! Everything it is!'

[Aerys, bring in your acting game. I'm trying to experience every isekai scenario there is into one moment.] She communicated mentally, which made Aerys sigh.

"Do you mind acting more proper in my presence, you lowly knight!" Kara's tone made the stationed knight prop up. In his long years as a knight, only nobles or esteemed people talked this way.

Curiously, he glanced at the duo and wide-eyed because of their appearance. Even if he couldn't see Kara's entire face, the area around her eyes was visible, and one could tell she was a beauty.

Though, taking one glance at Aerys made him glance away quickly. If looking at Kara was soothing for the eyes, then looking at Aerys felt like one was in front of a dragon.

"S-sorry, Ma'am! Please enter, and I apologize for my earlier behavior," his words stunned Kara. 'What!? Shouldn't there be more scenes to this? How can he suddenly allow us in just like that?'

Unknown to Kara, the knight is always sensitive to people with the nobles and will never question any, even if they're just a baronet. In short, the guy knows how to survive.

[AN: Baronet is a noble rank for commoners who have done deeds worthy of a noble, lower than a baron, but can use the suffixes of Sir, etc.]

In the end, Kara gives the guy a bag of gold coins that she transmuted from some pebbles. She only wanted to know what it feels like to tip big.

When the knight looked inside the bag, he immediately hid it and thanked Kara mentally. He didn't know why he got such an amount, but he decided not to report their appearance to his superior.

Every stationed knight is supposed to report the appearance of foreign nobles or any extravagant-looking person. Especially the shady ones, after all, they still have to keep the peace.

Back to the duo, "Master, I don't know what's this feeling, but I smiled seeing you fail there," Kara could hear the laughing tone within Aerys' words.

Kara feigned ignorance and casually proceeded on her way. Naturally, the two attracted quite the sight. Kara's attire and her 'guard' were quite the sight, after all. People in Senex rarely see nobles walking around every day.

However, their attire and noble appearance seemed to have still attracted the greedy gaze of some. "Haha, Aerys, you will that? It seems we're going to get robbed soon!" Kara said enthusiastically.

"And why are you happy about it? Shouldn't it be the opposite?" Aerys couldn't help but look at Kara weirdly. 'No one wants to get robbed, and yet Master seems happy about it.'

"Life is to experience and learn things, Aerys. Let's see who'll rob us. My bet is on a child bumping me scene cliche!" Kara even purposefully went to a crowded street to help the future thieves. She lured them in by tying a bag full of coins on her side. They could hear clattering coins.

"Oho! Aerys, I sense one approaching me! Do nothing, okay?" even if Kara said nothing, Aerys wouldn't do anything since she understood Kara a bit, at least.

*Bump!* And like a baited fish, a teen 'bumped' into her and dashed off and merged with the crowd. Kara then made themselves invisible, silently following the youngster.

Moments later, they found themselves in the rougher parts of the city. "Holy! It really smells like shit!" Kara complained. "I'm pretty sure if Master wanted to know the smell of shit, she just has to use the toilet right after Master's father uses it."

"Ugh! I don't even want to know what he eats to produce that kind of smell!" It was a household joke whenever someone mentions Thomas' usage of the toilet that it reeks of haunted ass. If there was sewage water, then Thomas created the doodoo water.

After following the teen for a while, Kara couldn't help but be impressed. She could tell that the teenage boy had an inkling of him getting followed but couldn't find anyone.

Anyway, they could see him making his way into a rundown house. Sensing the residence, Kara could tell that there were exactly 12 people inside of it.

'Could this be the teen works for a gang leader cliche scene? And when the kid doesn't get his cut, the MC comes to save the day and eventually gives him the money? Let's see then!'

[Young thief's POV]

I held a bag of coins; I was excited and happy to know that I got a massive one today!

Stealing wasn't something that I was proud of; it was just something that I needed to do. For my younger sister, I needed to steal everything to live and eat.

Being an adventurer wasn't an option. Not many rookies know this, but the chance of death for an amateur adventurer was above 50% if you're not acquainted with someone experienced.

And me dying was not optional. My sister would have no one to take care of her. I would not have peace of mind if I left my sister alone in this cruel world.

However, when I was about to arrive at the designated spot, I couldn't help but get the feeling of being followed. It's the intuition and experience I picked up doing this sort of activity over the years. But, whenever I send a wave of mana, I sense no one.

Leaving it to paranoia, I quickly headed inside the rickety building. The building is the home of the gang that operates in this area. Whenever a thief steals in a gang's territory, one must always give a percentage.

One could choose not to give a share. But, if you're caught not giving a stake, then you'll have a target on your back.

Soon as I entered the building, my hand rested on my rusty dagger. It, at least, brought a sense of comfort. Quickly arriving in front of a door, I knocked.

*Click* Opening the door for me, the same burly man has always greeted me. "It's you again, and it seems you have a heft haul this time, eh?" he said and eyed the bag on my hand.

I didn't say anything, but he gestured for me to come in. Inside the room, I spotted the leader of the gang that I always paid my tributes. He was the one that caught me stealing and even taught me a lesson that day. Still mad about that, though.

"Ah! Yuri, my boy, you're here again? Blessed, aren't you!?" Surprisingly, this past week I have been successfully getting scores of money. Which is why they're calling me blessed all of a sudden.

"Yeah, yeah, Solomon. Let's get this show on the road; I still got to take care of my sister, y'know?" My sister is easily worried, and I didn't want her out in the streets finding for me.

*Clang* I placed the heavy bag of coins on the table, because of its weight, it created quite the noise.

Upon opening the leather pouch, a glitter of yellow shone. Gold!

"G-Gold!?" both Solomon and I exclaimed; I was beyond excited at this point. With this much money, I could live in the better parts of the city along with my sister! This money could change our lives!

"Boy! You better be honest with me; who did you steal from?" However, Solomon's voice was far from excited. He was serious.

"I don't know? I just stole it from some noble-looking person, I guess?" I didn't have the time to identify the person. Hell, there were too many people targeting the person!

"L-Leave! LEAVE, RIGHT NOW! AND TAKE YOUR MONEY WITH YOU!" Solomon shouted and hastily pointed at the door while tossing the bag of gold coins at me. "Hey! What's the problem!? It's money!"

"You fool! Have you ever seen a noble hanging their money out of a storage accessory!? And do you think someone with this money can't afford one? Even the cheapest only costs ten gold coins!" He reasoned, and it was only now, did I realize.

It didn't take a minute before they threw me out of the building with the stolen money. I left; however, the feeling of being watched never left ever since I stole the money.

Trying my luck, I shouted. "Come out! I can't sense you, but I know you're there!" After I did so, I immediately checked my surroundings but found nothing. It only made me look like some maniac on some Fairy Poppers.

[AN: Think of Fairy Poppers as a magical white powder with glitters.]

"You'd have to be blessed to untold magnitudes if you're ever dreaming to sense my presence. Though, I commend your instinct." A soft voice sounded just behind me, to which I immediately swung my dagger.

However, with my circular swing, I only struck air. "My, my, not even hesitating to swing a blade? Even after allowing you to steal the gold?" Yet again, the voice said. The unknown voice was now everywhere.

At this point, I was sweating buckets. "P-please, just let me go! I'll return the money!" stuttering due to the fear creeping up to me. "No can do. You stole it from me, remember?"

"Let's steal from each other, shall we? I will steal your freedom in exchange, deal?" the voice said. "Do I even have an option?"

"Of course, you do!" Feeling hopeful, I asked. "W-what is it then?" Maybe it was because of the fear that my blockheaded brain couldn't tell that I was getting played by the person.

"Death, duh! What else? Fight me? Even a million of you wouldn't win, hahaha," a feminine laugh escaped.

"I see, then my freedom is yours to take. But allow me to take my sister with me," Serving under a noble isn't always bad; some get lucky, and since I'm somewhat blessed, let's push my luck.

"Oh, that? I already have your sister. She's quite the cute little one and magically talented too!"

If words could describe my face, my face would have sucked a bottle of lemon. I was shocked!

And on that day, I ended up being the best thief servant of an Angel? Demon? Book Demon? Book Angel?

So, how's my writing so far? Is the story so far good?

If some of you are wondering why I haven't updated the MHA FF, it's because my writing there is all over the place. So, I was thinking of resetting it.
