Hunter's License.

After a few minutes, Rae pulls away from me and the room is silent for a moment until I speak up, "So, Hae-won said you're an A-Rank hunter?"

Rae chuckled, "I was, I've long retired to take care of Hae-won. Now I just train new recruits from time to time. Matter of fact, since you're an aspiring hunter, how about you try out at my guild? If you have your hunter's license of course."

I didn't know what a guild was, but I can guess it's probably like a team or organization of some sort. I'm guessing getting recruited is hard, and if Rae is asking me to try out, that means she thinks I can do it.

"Uh, no, I don't have one yet. I actually don't know where to get one. Also, what's your guild called?" I heard Rae chopping up vegetables as she answered my question, "My guild is called Ego. We don't have any S-Ranks and our Guild Master is an A-Rank. There are four A-Rankers including me. They are the Guild Master, Vice Guild Master, Alpha Team Leader, and Beta Team Leader. We're not very high ranking, but that doesn't mean we can't be one day!" Rae expressed great pride in her guild which made me giggle.

"Oh, and I'll take you to get your license tomorrow." I nodded and another question came to mind, "So what is your position in your guild?" There are certain things that I'm not supposed to hear, but I swear I heard Rae's chest puff up with pride.

"I'm the Combat Instructor! Since I won't go into a Gate unless absolutely necessary, I don't get many opportunities to fight. So what better way to satiate that urge than beating up on the new recruits?" Rae laughed and I laughed nervously, was she insane?

"Ah! That was a joke!" Rae saved herself and I laughed at her frantic attempts to recover from her bad joke. After that, we engaged in some more small talk until she was finished cooking dinner. I wasn't familiar with any of the smells as this was a Korean dish.

"So what's on the menu, Chef Rae?" I asked in a playful tone, "Tonight's meal consists of Jajangmyeon and rice. A meal that would greatly benefit a growing girl such as yourself." Rae laughed as she called Hae-won out of her. I heard rapid footsteps synonymous with running and soon, Hae-won was seated at the table.

"Noona! You're getting your hunter's license right?" Hae-won asked as I heard her stuff her face with noodles, "Yes, your mother is kind enough to take me there." I laughed and she talked with her mouthful but Rae scolded her. She swallowed her food before speaking again, "That's so cool! Mommy says I have to wait 11 years before I can get mine! That's like forever!"

"11 years? How old are you Hae-won?" By her voice, I assumed she was around 4-6 but I wanted to be sure.

"Hae-won is 5 years old! I turned 5, three months ago! That's in March!" Hae-won exclaimed before presumably stuffing her face with noodles. Rae and I couldn't help but laugh at her enthusiasm.

"How old are you Yoko?" Rae asked me, "I'm 17, I turn 18 in October. How old are you Rae?"

"I'll be 27 next month," I felt my jaw drop to the ground. I assumed Rae was a very beautiful woman just by her voice and you mean to tell me she's only 26?!

"I know what you're thinking. She's so young! Yes, but being young frickin' sucks." Rae sighed and I could only laugh, "Yeah! Grandma is always like, 'When are you going to get a husband?'" Hae-won exclaimed and I could feel the heat of embarrassment coming off of Rae's face.

After that, Rae scolded Hae-won again who made a raspberry noise with her tongue before continuing to eat, and before I knew it, dinner was over and Rae was leading me to a room.

"Yoko, how about you stay here for a while? Or at least until you have your own income and can get a place yourself? I know you're a strong girl, but I would never forgive myself if I allowed you to sleep on the streets. So please, even for a little while, call this place home." Rae said, in a tone that wasn't going to take no for an answer. It would be rude to not take her offer, so I obliged.

"Thank you for allowing me to stay here!" I bowed deeply and Rae ruffled my hair, "Get some sleep kiddo, you've got a long day ahead of you tomorrow."

I walked into my room, laid my things down, and laid in the bed. Before I knew it, I was asleep.

------

"Rise and shine, Yoko." I heard Rae's soft voice as she opened the curtains in my room. I felt the morning sun hit my face and the smell of breakfast invaded my nostrils.

"Good morning, Rae," I said as I yawned, "Breakfast is on the table. You can shower after you eat, I have some clothes in my closet that you can fit."

"Thank you." I walked out of the room with Rae and sat at the table. I ate breakfast, took a shower, and Rae gave me an outfit. Obviously, I don't know what it looked like, but I'm praying that Rae can dress well.

"Okay, mommy! I'm all ready to go!" Hae-won yelled and Rae laughed, "Okay, well then let's go." I didn't hear anyone walk out of the door and only heard Rae grab something.

"Uh, aren't we going out of the front door?" I asked and Rae chuckled, "Oh no sweetheart, I'm a Mage. I awakened with the ability to manipulate spacetime, so I don't need a car or have to take a plane, train, or boat."

Oh, that's convenient, maybe she could show me the ropes? I hope learning about another hunter's ability isn't taboo or something.

"Oh, that's cool to have," I said as I felt a sickening amount of mana flood the area. I fought the urge to throw up my breakfast and leaned on Kura for support. Soon a feeling of extreme vertigo washed over me and I couldn't help but vomit.

"Good thing I teleported us outside," Rae laughed, "That usually happens to first-time teleporters, sorry I didn't tell you," Rae said with concern as she rubbed my back.

I wiped my mouth, "It's fine, I just hope I don't throw up next time." I laughed and Rae helped me up. We walked inside of the air-conditioned building and Rae managed to get us a private room, probably due to her rank and presumed fame.

After being brought to the room, I heard the footsteps of a heavier man. He and Rae talked about me getting my license and getting ranked. The man then stepped out before coming back in.

"Please put your hand on this stone and push mana into it," The man said and I did as he asked. I assumed my ranking was going to be D, as that's what my status tells me.

"Congratulations, you're a C-Rank hunter." The man said curtly, leaving me confused. C-Rank?

'Punpun, why am I, not the rank my stats say I am?'

[The device used only measured the amount of mana within your body. Although, the device is still inaccurate not by much. In sheer mana you're a high D-Rank.]

So my results are a bit inflated but not by much. I can live with it, besides I'll get stronger anyway.
