1 The Meeting

In front of me was the one and only Prodigy Arts High School. It was the elite of the elite - or so I've been told - school for anyone who want to be, well, "anyone" in the music industry. In front of me was a grand entrance of about 100 - mind the exaggeration - steps that I am required to climb with a luggage in my right hand.

Well isn't this a lovely start to my morning? I thought to myself sarcastically, thanking God that I remembered to buy myself a coffee before making my way here.

Taking a sip of my coffee, I took my first step up the stairs. Before I could even take my second step, my phone decided to ring. I put my luggage down on the step with a deep sigh and rummaged for my phone in my bag.

Gosh where does my phone keep disappearing to in this bag? I swear it was here just a sec-

Found it!

I glance at the caller ID and it is no other than Gavin - Gavin Mitchel. My boss, my caretaker, my "father" - I guess you could describe it as that. But all in all, my greatest enemy.

I accept the call and bring the phone to my ear.

"Sofia, is that you?" was the first thing he asked.

"Oh no, I'm just a stranger who was passing by and picked up Sofia's phone for her" I retorted sarcastically.

"You're so funny" Gavin replied with a blank tone. "Look, I was just calling to remind you to not screw this up okay?"

"Gavin, please" I said, "You know me, when have I ever failed any of your missions before?"

I could hear him sigh through the phone, "I know, but this is different to all the other missions okay?"

I rolled my eyes. Luckily Gavin couldn't see that act right now, if he could I would have had an earful for it.

"The boys are apart of a boy group called Feather Fall. They're kind of popular amongst the students. I was able to get you in the same classes as them so make the most of it. And remember, first impressions are the most important, so don't screw this up." He stated, his tone shifting to a more serious one.

"Yeah yeah..." I was getting sick of this conversation so I decided to put on act to end it. "Oh look I've gotta go! Teachers are calling! Talk to you later Gavin!"

I could hear him about to say something - most likely to repeat that I shouldn't screw this up once again - before I hung up the phone and made my way up these hellishly long stairs once again.

Yes, you read all that correctly! I wasn't here, at this extremely elite school, because I had a passion for music - I'm a fighter, not a dancer. I am in fact here to spy on a bunch of boys. Not because I want to of course, but because I have to. Gavin, as I mentioned, is my boss. Well actually, he adopted me and then trained me in martial arts and forces me to do lots of jobs for him. In summary, he's a prick, but he at least pays me, provides a roof over my head and in a cold and sadistic way raised me.

Finally reaching the end of the stairs, I enter into the main hall. I am astonished by the sight before my eyes. There was a fountain, yes an actual fountain, in the centre of the hall. The ceiling was so high with two beautiful staircases leading all the way up to the second story. Looking at the signs on the wall, right staircase leads to the girls' dorms and the left to the boys'.

While I was distracted by the ceiling of the school, I felt someone bump into me, causing my coffee to slip right out of my hands as I tripped onto my forearms.

Before I could fully comprehend what had just happened I heard a boy shout "My lyrics! You ruined my lyrics!"

I turned myself around so that I was now seated on the floor and came face to face with a very distressed boy. He had black, wavy hair that almost looked too big on his head, and icy blue eyes. I looked down to see that he was holding some stained sheets of paper.

After finally understanding the situation, I got on my knees and crawled towards the papers, anger building up each second I got closer. I pulled the sheets out of his hands and examined them. When I was finished, I looked up directly into his eyes, glaring.

"Who cares about your stupid lyrics!" I yelled. I began shaking the papers in his face, "My Coffee! It's all gone!"

He looked at me, bewildered. "Y-Your coffee?"

He yanked the sheets of paper out of my hands and stood up, "You're seriously worried about your coffee right now?"

I followed his lead and stood up as well. "Yes, what else would I be worried about?" I asked curiously.

He shifted his weight from his left foot to his right, I could tell he was getting worked up.

"You do realise that it took me days to finish these lyrics, right?"

I crossed my arms, "Well you wrote it, right? Surely, you can just write it again?"

This time he took a deep breathe, and I could tell he was really pissed off.

"Plus, if it was so dear to you, why wouldn't you be more careful where you are walking then?" I added, knowing very well that this would anger him more.

"I could say the same thing about you" he began glaring at me.

We stood there glaring at each other for a short while. I could feel the tension growing between us. Our fit of anger was finally broken by a distant voice calling out for a Jaxson. The boy turned his icy blue eyes away and looked behind him.

There were 3 other boys standing a distance away, looking in our direction. I could see one of them waving to the boy in front of me, motioning him to come towards them.

He turned back to me, gave me one final glare, and then made his way towards his group of friends.

I looked down at my spilled coffee. The only thing that was keeping me sane at the moment was now a pool on the floor.

"Goodbye Sanity" I muttered under my breathe and made my way up to the dorms.

◾️◾️◾️

"And this is your dorm!" The girl who was to assist me as a new student said gleefully. "Let me know if you ever need help!"

I fake smiled at the girl and merely closed the door on her face. Damn, she was way to cheerful for my liking. It almost seemed fake.

I walk into the dorm room with a deep sigh, leaving my luggage on the side for now.

"Oh, you're finally here" I hear someone say, scaring the shit out of me.

I look up to see a very thin girl with a pixie haircut sitting on the window sill.

"Lucy!" I proclaim. "You're here early."

"No, darling." She raised her eyebrows, "You're just late."

Who is Lucy, you ask? She's my best friend. My only friend. She goes everywhere I go and she's here with me to support me on my current mission. Plus she actually has a talent for music so she didn't want to miss out on this amazing opportunity.

She finally smiled and ran up to engulf me in a hug. "I missed you!"

I laughed and hugged her back. "It's been like... two days, Lucy."

She released the hug and looked up at me. "Yeah but I'm just so excited!"

She began looking around the room "Look at this place! It's huge!"

Now that she mentioned it, I began examining the room. There were two queen sized beds with lots of room still available to move around. On top of all that, we had our very own bathroom.

"Oh look at the time! We're late!" Lucy exclaimed. She grabbed me by the arm and we rushed out of the dorm. "Let's go to class."

◾️◾️◾️

"And why are you girls late?" Miss Jennifer, our teacher, asked. She had already written on half the white board and we were only 10 minutes late.

I hate her already.

Lucy and I both looked at each other, not knowing what to say. I mean doesn't this lady realise that we are both new students. Cut us some slack.

"Now I will let you off this time, since the both of you are new. But know from now on, that I do not accept tardiness." She glared at us through her thin, triangular glasses. "Go on now, introduce yourselves."

I chuckled under my breathe. I had forgotten why I was begged to be home schooled, this was the reason.

Lucy and I both introduced ourselves and then took a seat towards the back of the classroom, where we found some empty chairs 3 rows from the very back.

After a few seconds of silence Miss Jennifer continued her class. She was talking about high notes and how you can easily hit them using the correct techniques, but I wasn't really listening. I began looking around the classroom. Which one of these nerds is Feather Fall? Is it the group of boys seated at the front of the class, listening to Miss Jennifer attentively? Or is it the boys on my right, half-asleep and completely unfocused?

Arghh I really don't know. I wish Gavin had given me some pictures. And he goes on and on about not screwing this up.

While looking behind me to see if I could decipher somehow who Feather Fall was, I saw a very familiar set of icy pupils staring at me.

"What?" I mouthed to him, causing him to smile at me.

"Sorry about earlier." He stated. "I got too worked up, but I think I do require an apology from you. Those were my precious lyrics after all."

I chuckled at his words. "You want me to apologise? You do realise you were the one who bumped into me right?"

"From my perspective, you bumped into me actually" He crossed his arms.

I rolled my eyes in response, which caused him to chuckle.

"I'm Jaxson by the way." He reached his hand out for me to shake.

"I don't remember asking. Hmmm... Maybe it's because" I replied, acting like I was in deep thought, "I don't care."

"Miss Sofia!" I suddenly heard the teacher screech. "Since you're so eager to talk, why don't we have you show us your skills in high notes?"

"No thank you." I smiled.

She gasped. "Such disrespect towards a teacher! You will come up here and demonstrate your skills unless you want a months worth of detention!"

A months worth of detention? Really? Simply for not wanting to something I was being forced to do? Also I replied in a very polite way, the most polite thing I've said all day actually. Lucy nudged me and gave me a 'just do it' look. She was the only reason I stood up from my seat and did what the teacher asked.

"What do you want me to do?" I asked insincerely.

"Sing your favourite song-"

"I don't have a favourite song" I cut her off short.

"Well, then just a sing any song!" She exclaimed.

So I did what she asked of me. I sang the first song that popped into my head. When I was finished I was confronted by an applause from the entire class.

"Well that was very good. Although some keys were off note, I'm sure we can work on that together." Miss Jennifer stated with her arms crossed. I quickly sat back down next to Lucy.

"Okay, now let's have Feather Fall show us how it's really done!" Miss Jennifer added with a wide smile apparent on her face. Oh so when it comes to Feather Fall she's all smiley. The discrimination is uncanny.

Wait did she just say Feather Fall? Finally, I get to see who they are!

I looked around curiously for who would stand up. It wasn't the nerdy guys at the front. that's for sure, since they weren't budging from their seats. Same with the sleepy boys on my right. They were less sleepy now, however. Well then, who is it? I looked behind me and the boy named Jaxson was now standing, the 3 boys he was seated next to were also now standing.

Why is he standing? It can't be! It has to be a mistake!

Gavin's words immediately flashed through my mind, "Remember, first impression are the most important"

"So don't screw this up"

Well unfortunately I did. I screwed it up by being a prick to a stranger about some bloody coffee. I sunk in my seat like a deflated balloon. I am the biggest idiot.

What kind of luck do I have anyways? How is it that the first person I meet in this gigantic school is one of the boys I need to be spying on?
