Chapter 1

Evelyn walked into Elk Creek institute confidently but no one paid attention to her cause they were all glued to their phones even when some walked past her. Some glided past her while other bumped into her and shouted "watch where you are going!!" even when they were at fault and she, a calm person always said sorry even though she was the victim. She, after a lot of wrong turns, made her way to the principal's office and knocked "come in" a cold voice said, Evelyn walked in as she composed herself "yes? How may I help you?" the principal asked "I am Evelyn Johnson, a new student" "oh yes Miss Johnson welcome to the Prestigious Elk Creek institute" not as prestigious as you think "our goal here is to build morals in our students and also make them poses the biggest brains in the state" they already do with all that pride "are you ready for this experience?" "Yes ma" "good" the woman said with a smiled that does not suit her and Evelyn cringed "here is your curriculum and your class is 2BC" "thank you ma" "you are welcome you may take your leave" Evelyn bowed and walked out. She sighed and walked through the army of phone tapping students "what are they even looking at" she wondered she finally made to the class and luckily no teacher is in unlike her former school where teachers are stationed in the classes. She walked to the only empty seat which is at the middle of the class, she hanged her bag on the chair, sat down and placed her head on the table, how she hate moving to this town and getting enrolled in this godforsaken school. She finally lifted her head after a moment of meditation and noticed a girl sitting at a deserted part of the class with bruises on her face with a lollipop in her mouth "that must have hurt" Evelyn said inwardly. Just then a boy hoped into the class and shouted "it is time!!!" and everyone except the girl grabbed their phones and began to click like mad people while Evelyn looked around confused then a girl who looked kind asked her "are you new?" obviously "yes, what is going on?" "Oh it's just the social pyramid" "the social what?" "It is an app where students choose who the most popular, the in-be-tweens and the least popular ones" oh "the voting just started, you wanna join?" the girl asked and Evelyn was about to answer but a dude spoke up "why should she join? She is a new student she will not climb the ladder not even a step!" "Why are you eavesdropping Aro?" "Am not!" "Yes you are! Anyways" she said turning to Evelyn "are you going to participate?" hmm let me see "sure what is the worst that could happen" Evelyn replied and Aro looked at her as if she is dumb "what?" Evelyn asked "nothing". True what is the worst that could happen?.
