7 Down The Hill

Rin sat up slowly before smiling weakly as she wiped off her blood using handkerchief. I threw the letter and medicine in front of her while gesturing towards it with my head. She gathered her bearings before picking up the letter.

She froze when she read the first line written in all too familiar handwriting. She immediately looked around frantically hoping to catch a glimpse of her father. But was quickly sadden that nothing changed and no else was around. She looked at me as I shook my head denying her hopes as I gestured for her to continue reading the letter.

She read the next line and look backed at me in confusion. I could only shake my head to indicate that nobody came back which include my parents. As if understanding my intentions, Rin continued reading.

A mountain worth of emotions that was as rocky as the ocean poured out of Rin. Tears and sniffles covered her face before she was flushed with anger and rage as she clenched the sides of the paper. However, the rage was soon washed away by the love that overflowed the letter as her faced blanked from the sense of lost. Even that did not last long as guilt overtook her but before the self loathe sank in, her father read her mind for the last time and consoled her as she continued reading the letter. She screamed and sobbed as completed reading the letter.

"Stupid father! Why would I blame you...sob... I would continue to blame myself... if not for your final wish..."

She looked resolutely in mind eyes before opening and swallowing the contents of the medicine bags. She chewed slowly as tears fell from her cheeks. I peered into her eyes as I activate [Sight].

Rin's complexion became flushed and was no longer sickly pale. As vitality surged through her eyes. She smiled at me, signalling me to perch on her shoulder. I hesitated before giving in as she stared at me with determined eyes.

"Grin, let's have fun in town today!"

As we walked down the hill, Rin finally let lose as she told me the grievances that built up over the pass months. From her sadness of her father passing, her thoughts of self loath during her period of sickness and even her longing for her mother. She rambled about her thoughts on her selfishness and loneliness. She also told me about the happiness she felt from my birth to her travels with her father. She spent the most time talking about her caring father. By the time we reached town, she had completely told me her entire life from her highs to her lows. Revealing her entire being to me.

Her smile was genuine with no specks of dark emotions. We spent our day eating and enjoying the scenery of the town. We played with the children at the fountain and talked to the aunts at the market. Sat under a tree while watching the townsfolk happily live their life. She took off her beaded bracelet that was adorned with what seems to be falcon claws. She placed it around my wrist as it magically tightened.

"This is a magic item that was made to help our clan's descendants to inherit our magic. I'm giving it to you since you are next in line. After you wear it for a certain period you will understand our clan's magic. So please keep it well and continue the clan."

Before the town gates closed for the night we took our leave as we strolled towards to forest.

We bathed in twilight as she stopped along the path and sat down. She lifted me up to her eyes before speaking.

"My dearest Grin, thank you for brightening up my lonely world and coming on this journey with me. You have impacted my life and I can never live without you now. However, I can feel my time coming as the medicine's effect are waning. I named you 'Peregrine' as my father once said that it means 'one from abroad' so I hope that you do not live in this lonely world of mine and take flight to soar beyond my world. Have fun abroad as a small part of me will live within you when I am gone. Bring that small part of me and experience many things in my stead. Grin, now go enjoy the world! Okay? "

She threw me up as she finished her sentence.

Rin mumbled as she saw my back, "Although I wished I could see Father again..."

My heart wretched as I wished I could bring her. With those thoughts in mind I replied 'yes'.

Bright light shone around me as I grew in size. Rin closed her eyes due to the blinding light.
