6 __FIVE__

After Shern walked me home she left me near the front door and then we exchanged our goodbyes. I then silently walked into the house and found my aunt, sitting on a couch, in the drawing-room. The structure of our drawing-room was such that, one sitting in it can directly see who has entered or have exited the house.

The moment I saw her there, I froze. I genuinely wished her to watch something more important than knowing where I've been to. But there goes my luck, trying its best not to turn into a good one. Her deep brown eyes were successful in finding me stranded near the front door. She got up from her chair and strolled towards me. I stood still where I was. I could feel the silence in the room. It felt like every piece of furniture in the room were mocking me. I looked down at the floor and then to my shoelaces. It was like the shoelaces were the most interesting stuff I've ever seen in my entire life.

"where. Did. You. Go?" Her deep voice scared me more. I couldn't reply to her question but stared at her blankly.

"Miss Syndi, I hope you have heard me. Didn't you?" this time, she sort of screamed. I couldn't utter a single word clearly. I stammered.

"i ... I was... I just... I...." my voice cracked.

She opened her mouth and then soon closed it as we heard our door crack open. I secretly hoped that it was not Aiden and someone else who would come in and make the atmosphere in the room a little light. To my surprise, Jake, our neighbour's son who was also a bit favourite to our aunt, stepped in. The moment I saw him, I was relaxed a bit knowing that he might be of some help now.

"Hello, ma'am..." Jake mumbled before coming in our direction and waving his hand towards my aunt. By the time he came near me and my aunt, my aunt has stepped back a bit leaving a distance between us. My aunt didn't reply to Jake but she smiles at him.

Jake came near me and greeted me with his warm smile to which I also smiled back. He then looked towards my aunt and moved forward to her. They started speaking to each other and I excused myself thinking of it to be a great opportunity for me to avoid the risky topic of where I was.

As Jake was my aunt's favourite, he used to visit our house frequently and thus we had become somewhat friends in the past few days. He used to ask how my day was and after replying, I used to ask him, the same . We used to have a chit chat and used to joke few times only to lighten the mood. After Shern left us, Jake was the only one whose presence made me feel light and safe.
