14 Chapter 14

Ange started, “They’ll be here—”

Outside, a car horn brayed into the night and Tyler dashed for the side door. “Wait!” Ange called out after him, but it was useless. Tyler bounded to the street, where Lamar’s polished Trans Am sat like a bruise against the curb.

As Ange locked up the apartment, he heard a car door slam and then Lamar’s bright laughter splashed out across the night. “Yo, fucker! What up, holmes?”

“Shut up,” Ange muttered under his breath. As he approached the car, Colin climbed out of the passenger side and pulled his seat forward to let Ange into the back of the car. “Hey, Colin.”

“Hey, Ange.” Colin eased his bulk down onto the seat beside Ange before Tyler could join him.

Smooth, Lamar, Ange thought, pissed. How long did it take them to work that one out? You get Ange in the back and let me have the new kid, what do you say?He could almost hear Lamar’s voice in his head, and he hated the smirk on his friend’s face when Tyler slid into the front seat.
