Chapter 35 - Savior

Written By Curiostyx

~〈The Wyrm〉~

—Sizzle~!*

A cone of flames was flushed out from the Wyrm's throat, billows of ashen smoke rising from his nostrils.

The corpse of a gigantic serpentine monster was sprawled out on the floor, the cone of flames making contact with the carcass and roasting it as the sounds of sizzling pops resounded.

「The Skill ~Intimidation~ has leveled up. Max LV reached.」

The surrounding monsters were all shaking in their non-existent boots, fear gripped their hearts like how an Overwatch Player grips their micro-penis as they watched the Wyrm casually grilling an Elroe Baladorado.

「The Skill ~Intimidation LV 10~ has evolved into ~Tyrant LV 1~」

About half a dozen hours had passed since the Wyrm had stumbled upon the Upper Stratum. Just in these few hours alone, his stature in the Dungeon hierarchy had been firmly established as a widely feared and respected apex predator.

An Overlord. The Overlord of this particular region.

The nearby monster had all been subjugated under the Wyrm's oppressive rule. He was akin to an overwhelming invasive force, like that of an Alien Space Demigod suddenly appearing on the face of the Earth.

Ironically, the System still considers his actions as purely of heroic intent. The proof was for all to see as the Hero Skill had reached LV 3, giving him another 300 Points in all Stats.

—Clank~!*

The sound of bones clanking against the hard ground could be heard as all that had remained of the Snake was its bloodied-up skeleton.

The Wyrm rubbed his tummy in satisfaction. The energy lost from Chrysalis had finally been recuperated by this kingly feast.

"Oi! Which of you guys have wings you can fly with?" The Wyrm screamed out to the surroundings.

—Squeak—Squeak~!*

From the low-hanging ceiling, a small flock of Pitbull-faced Bats emerged out of the nearby holes as they flew around the Wyrm's location.

"I need one of you to stay here with me... As for the rest, go find me some Humies!" He transferred his thoughts through Telepathy.

As for why he wanted to find Humans...? Well, why not. For a Human to explore a Dungeon, they must at least be able to fend for themselves against these monstrous beasts.

Adventurers, they had to be adventurers. They had to have powerful Skills he could steal—Rightfully take, right?

There was also some form of security in the appearance of a Human, though he wasn't stupid enough to try and make friends with them...

...Perhaps he could keep one of their corpses as decoration or maybe even as free furniture, it surely was something to think about.

The Bats gave their weakest comrade a mean glare before they fled the scene with a hurried pace, leaving the weakest Bat alone with their Master.

"Relax, man. It's nothing much, I was just going to eat your Soul." The Wyrm said calmly as he approached the terrified Bat.

He whistled the melody of lupine death as the Wyrm walked over to the Bat with a nonchalant demeanor, a cube made of green lines manifested in front of the Bat's throat.

"I'll give you three choices, brah... Kill yourself, I kill you, or you show me something which I do not have... Are we clear?" The Wyrm stated calmly as acid covered his claws.

The image of the number three was transferred into the Wyrm's mind, the Bat clearly chose the last option.

"I don't know, man... That Flight Skill you have looks pretty damn enticing, can't I just kill you and get it for myself—" The Wyrm's non-existent eyebrows were raised as he took a look at the Bat's Status panel.

A new Skill had been added to the Bat's Skill list... Blood Attack, sacrifices HP to imbue strength... Hey, did this guy just use all of his Skill Points to buy this!?

The Bat had a weirdly smug expression that made the Wyrm's inner spirit boil in righteous fury—Thankfully for the Bat, the Wyrm was one charitable saint, he would never lash out at his own Minion for doing his job...

"Fair enough, I guess... Hey, you kind of remind me of someone in a weird way... I'll call you Greg, 'kay?" The Bat had a baffled expression as the Wyrm had just gone from trying to kill him for a Skill all the way to treating him like an actual person...

Couldn't he have just killed the Bat and taken its new Blood Attack Skill...? No, the Wyrm's motivations were beyond your understanding.

The surrounding monster of which Wolves, Deer, and a large number of Rats made their number got out of the way the Bats had returned with some news.

"A giant Egg...? Hm..."

_____

~〈The Wyrm〉~

There on the ground was a massive, 10-foot-tall Egg with draconic scales acting as the outer shell.

A camp had surrounded the Egg as if it were a shrine, though they didn't look like they were worshiping the damn thing.

Researchers, it seems they were researching the Egg like it was an individual of an exotic racial descent.

〈In the process of Evolution...〉

That was what appraisal came up with... Huh, so this thing is less of an Egg and more of a Cocoon...

"!!!" The Wyrm's vision zoomed in as he saw the few Human researchers taking bits and chunks from the Eggshells...

The pieces were then brought back to their tents, presumably to be researched... Or whatever these primitive scientists did with animal parts.

'For the name of science... But Mad Scientist does make for great villains, so let's call this a Heroic Deed. Eh, System?' The Wyrm offered with a cheeky tone before Circle of Magical Power manifested behind him.

Out of those "Gates", a swarm of Monster was flushed out, taking the form of a beast tide as they rushed towards the camp with ravenous intent.

It was better to frame this as a random monster wave instead of one singular monster taking action, it would be annoying if he had to deal with Human organizations and the like coming for his ass.

"A Hero of Justice, the Wyrm is. Superman should take this as an example." -Remark

I feel like this Chapter doesn't quite hit as hard, don't know why though.
