Snap 2: Dawning.

I woke up a week later. In my dazed confusion, I saw a desk, it had a folder with a name on it. For a second I didn't recognize the name, that froze me when I realized it. Imagine forgetting who you were, but only for split second, so you remember that you almost forgot. Aleks Ivanov. That's my name, right. Generic Russian name. But not bad. I looked to my left and saw the Doctor. Writing something, it seemed. My eyesight has always been good, so I could read her name tag. Hitomi Akemi, so Japanese. The last name was the same as those neighbors, so it might be more than just a coincidence.

She noticed I was conscious and turned her head. It's how I noticed how beautiful she is. Same time I noticed the pain, so it evens out. A bit. She smiled, and stood up, walking over. She moved a chair and sat again.

She asked: "Are you okay? Can you speak?"

"Y-yeah. I think. What... happened?

"Well, that accident shattered most of the bones in your arms, broke 2 ribs and your hip bone as well. Aside from your arms, the rest of you will be fine within two months." She said frankly, looking over some report.

"Aside? So, will my arms be useless?" I said.

"Not entirely. Eventually you should be able to use a fork, knife and write. But not easily, you'll need a lot of rehabilitation." She said, forming a frown.

"Can I snap my fingers? Eventually?" Of all the things to blurt out...

She seemed bemused and saddened at the same time. "No... probably not."

"Oh..."

The wall phone rang all of a sudden.

"Pardon me. "

She walked over to the phone and picked it up.

"Yes? A visitor at this hour? "

At this hour? I see the clock, 3:00 AM. Yeah, it would be strange to visit at this time.

"Who- oh... I see. Alright, let her up. " She put the phone back.

"Its that old lady you saved. She's checking up on you apparently."

"Why now? Of all the times... "

"Who knows? I'll have to step out for a minute, so hang tight."

"Alright."

She walks out. About a minute or two later, the old lady walks in.

I remembered very little about what happened next. All I would remember is her apology, but not what's about to happen.

"Ah, hello. " She said. "Shaping up well?"

"Uh, yeah. I guess if not having functioning arms counts as well. "

She ignores me, turns away, and says something strange.

"In many tales, in situations such as this, the brave ones receives a gift. I believe you are worthy of this one. "

"Huh? What're you talkin' about? " I said utterly baffled.

She ignores me again.

"Though, with this, I suppose those three will be coming for you. But I think it'll shape up well. "

She turns to me.

"Its time for you to sleep now. "

There's a small flash and I start getting drowsy. I would remember none of this, for now. The Doctor walks in, and I pass out.

I wake up and see the clock, about 6:30. Dawn.

About a month passes. I'm doing homework in bed. I'm healing incredibly fast. I've started rehab. The Doctors are all utterly confused, not only am I healing fast, I'm healing better than I should have. Another month passes. It's November already, and I'm released. It's Friday, November 2nd. I have a lot of time until my 2 month late entrance to High School. But, I would gain something from all of this.
