1 DREAMS

I can't explain how I feel right now. All I know is that I'm just nervous and excited for some reasons I don't know.

"I have two news for all of you. One bad news and one good news" my heart beat faster at what our boss said "The good news, one of you can be promoted and become a gold writer for five years. The person that we will choose is depend on our bosses choice"

He pressed something on his laptop, so the presentation slide on the next page and we saw the gradual change of presentation in front of us. I was especially nervous about what I read. I looked at my friend here at work when she grabbed me by the arm and shook me. We also looked at the rest of our co-workers as if they also wanted to do what this woman did to me.

"I told you girl. You are the one who holds the throne. You deserve to be promoted" she whispered to me. I just smiled. I feel different here.

"She beat the former highest sales of the company. The customers or your fans or the readers also commented well on her" added our boss. He smiled big, but it disappeared when our eyesight was meet. I smiled bitterly. I seem to know where this is going, but I hope my suspicion is wrong.

I looked at the screen. They all countdown except me. I felt pain in my heart when I saw the another picture, its not me. I took a deep breath and looked at the woman walking towards the front.

"Why not you?" I just smiled at my co-worker.

"I don't know either" was my short answer to her.

"Your stats are there. Its your sale. Its yours. Why don't you have the credits?" I looked at my friend here at work and smiled at her then turned my gaze back to the front.

"Thank you" she said cheerfully. I averted my eyes before smiling. I know she saw what I did.

"Applause" I looked at our boss when he said that. No one applauded. I looked at my co-workers they are just whispering at each other. "I said applause" our boss got their attention, so they were all looking to the front.

I looked to the front and I caught her looking at me deadly. She stared at me as our eyes met. She frowned and whispered something to our boss. I smiled when I remembered that they were related. It lost in my mind, I forgot about it because my first intention was pure and my focus is work and I really tried to get this position, so I work hard but while I was doing that I did not notice that someone was pulling me down, so I could not escape anymore that's why I lost everything.

I looked at the high positions watching us, they were whispering. Maybe they are confused as to why we react like this.

Every 5 years they get something new so for them, it is important to have a meeting like this, so they are all here watching who are the top trainees and who will be the permanent employees or writer.

A year of my suffering, a year of patience, a year I hoped to get this job is end in nothing because of selfish people.

Our boss laughed awkwardly or in other words he is like our manager he was assign to us. He looked skeptically at the real bosses watching before he looked at us. He stared at us, and he was the first to applaud.

Trainees like me applauded one by one. We are all 20. 10 will be permanent employees. I looked at my friend and smiled at her. She did not applaud, she was just looking at me.

"I'm fine. I prepared myself earlier. Don't worry about me. Stay focused on your dreams. I will visit you from time to time" I saw tears welling up in her eyes. I smiled and let her hug me tightly even though I could not breathe with the tightness of her hug but I did not complain I just hugged her back. A year of friendship is not that bad either, so I start to like her and build a friendship.

We let go of the hug when we heard our boss speak again "Now. I will announce the unlucky ones. Don't worry you still have a chance next 5 years if you want to try again who knows that you might one of the permanent employee"

I just looked at my co-workers as if they already knew that they were the ones to be called so no one was listening to him anymore. They all crying and saying goodbye to each other. I poke my friend. When she looked at me, I smiled. I took her hand and I made our friendship handshake. She smiled and I let her control her hand after our handshake I hugged her one last time.

When I looked at our boss, he was calling some random name. I think its alredy three names that he called when I stood up suddenly. He stopped reading the name, everyone looked at me. For the last time I smiled at my friend before walking away. The corner of my eye also saw that the others were already standing. We already know that we will be eliminated because most of those who can enter are connected to the company. Even my friend also has a connection, so she can definitely get in.

When I left the company, I close my eyes and walk back because the of sunlight hit my eyed. I adjusted for a moment before I opened my eyes again. I smiled. Why did I lock myself in this big and dark company, it's nice to be here outside. I walked away from the company, I did not look back. It's not worth it.

I stopped outside the bank. I'll take all the money of this card. I saved up for the year I worked there. I really dreamed of becoming a writer so when I found out they were hiring I did not hesitate to join. For a few months it went well, it was fun because we made money even though we were just trainees or unemployed. I passed many poems, short stories and novels that I did wholeheartedly to prove that I was deserving, but I did not know that someone would stab me in the back.

When I went inside, I went straight to the counter with no one in line, it's great that there is only few people here.

"How can I help you?" The woman said smiling as I sat down.

I also smiled at her "I will take all its contents and I want to close it" I handed her my card, and she took it.

She looked at my pin and check it on the computer. She took a piece of paper and then wrote something there before she gave it to me. I wrote my details and I just gasped when I signed. I hope that money is enough for my brother's first semester. I lost my chance to fulfill my dream, so its time for my brother's dream.
